The regular meeting of the city council of the City of South 5an Francisco was held in the City Hall Monday evening, December 3rd, 1928. The meeting was called to order at 7;30 O'clock p.m. by Councilman A.J.Eschelhach, Mayor,of South San Francisco. ·ROLL CALL. Roll call found all members of the council present, to-wit,- Councilmen, A.Hynding, R.Lloyd, M.Minucciant, R.Tibbetts, A.J.Eschelbach. The minutes of the previous meeting were read. There being no errors or omissions Councilman Lloyd moved they be adopted as read. The motion was seconded by councilman Mtnucciani and eegularly carried. The Spring Valley Water Company made request for a refund of $75.15 taxes, on account of double assessment. Granted. Request for a refund of weed tax was made by Ellen Carmody, Ers. Carmody claiming her boys cleaned the weeds from the premises. Inspector Brawn stated the city cleaned the weeds from the front of the property and the request was denie~. M.Brignordelli asked for a refund of $1.00 weed tax, claiming he cleaned the weeds from the front of his property. Inspector Brawn stated the city crew cleaned the weeds from the front of Mr. Bribnirdellt's property and the request was denied. The request ,of L~rs. J.Genier and S.Suarez for a refund of $.48 and $.80 respectively, weed '~ tax charge was allowed and the clerk instructed to make the refund. A petition was received from residents of 0ak Avenue asking the Council to prevent the-narrowin~ of Oak Avenue and requesting the full width of 8o feet be allowed to staud. After discussion it was decided to have the city engineer confer with t;_e Hanrahan Company, contractors, with a view to ammanging the width to suit the property owners. ~'red J.Lautze asked for a refund of the sum of $18.37 on account of his garage building on Saz Bruno Road being assessed $1100 higher than the Buick Company's building adjoining, which he claimed to be of the same size. ~oz Eschelbach appoir~ted a committee consisting of Councilmen, Lloyd, and Tibbetts, ~...i Contractor Stickle and Inspector Brawn to select two disinterested parties and inspect the premises and report to the ctt~ council. A reply was received from the State Hailroad Commission concerning the claims of the market Street Railway Company for labor and material furnished in the installation of the wigwag and crossings at Third Street end Orange Avenue, s!:ating the charges are reasonably correct. Communicat! accepted and ordered filed. Assistant City Engineer ~Llasses will submit a final report. The Metal and Thermit Corporation protested against the assessment of 1928, claiming the same t to be too high on the land, and asked for an a~justment. Laid over for investigation. The South San Francisco Dnton Stockyarcs Company asked for a refund of $192.05, charged them for personal property, stock fixtures, etc, claiming they owned no live stock in the yards Marcl March let, last. City Attorney Coleberd's opinion was that as the company did not own the stock on the date mentioned taxes could not be collected. Laid over for investigation. City Attorney Coleberd ruled the application of the Yeteran's Welfare Board for cancelletion of taxes on lot 8, block 8, High School Park, now 5tare property was in order and legal, and cancellation was ordered made. Request was made by the nedmen Baseball Team to have the ball grounds remodeled and placed in condition for the coming session. Counclln~an Hsnding stated the matter would be looked after when the work of taking,care of the city parks c~mes up. Councilman Tlbbet'ts stated the basebal park situation would be given earnest considerationin the near future. The reports of the Chief of ?olice.Buildi~ Inspector. and Fire Chief forthe month ending November 30th were read and accepted. A resolution directing the publication ,of notice to bidders for the construction of a s~wer ' and two (2) manholes in a ~rtion'mo~ Swift Avenue was introduced by Councilman Mlnucctanl and adopted by the following vote;- Ayes, Councilmen, A.Hynding, R.Lloyd, M.Minucciani, R. Tibbetts, A.J.Eschelbach. Noes, Councilmen, Bone, Absent, Councilmen, None. City Attorney Coleberd announced that tLe South San Francisco industrial Oection may, in the near future,be placed in the Telephone lndustrial Aeria, which would in~ure a cheaper phone rate for this section of the city. it is expected further data will be had on the subject at a future meeting of the council. County ~ilk inspector Garland appeared before the council and advocated the adoption o~ a uniform ordinance by the City o~ Oouth San Francisco ~o ~revent ~ne in~roauction o~ impure ~ilk within the cit~ limits. City Attorney Coleberd was requested to study~i~, the existing county ordinance end re~ort his opinion o~ the same at the council meeting. City Treasurer Edward P.EaufTmann. havi~ returned from an extended trip across the continent 'appeared before the meeting and ~ave a short t~lk o~ his experiences and travels, ne was extended a real municipal welcome home. The motion was secondea by councilman ~loyd and regularly carried.
