The regular meeting of the City Council of the ~" ~ of South San Francisco w.ss held in the City/
Hall ~onday evening, January 7th,1929.
The meeting was called to order at 7;50 o'clock p.m. by Councilman A.J.Eschelbach, l~ayor of
South San Francisco.
ROLL CALL.
Roll call fou~d all members of the council present, to;wit;-
Councilmen, A.Hynding, R.Lloyd, M.~inucciani, R.Tibbetts, ~.J.Eschelbach.
The minutes of the previous meeting were read. There being no errors or omissions Councilman
Lloyd moved they be adopted as read. The motion was seconded by Councilman Hynding and regularly
carried.
A co~mication was received from the Pacific Gas & Electric Company, enclasing a copy of the
agreement between the City of South San Francisco .~...nd the gas ~nd light company ~ertaining to the
maintenance of conduits and cables, etc in connection with the electroliers. Communication and co~.y
ordered filed, Request was made by the ~al. State Auto Ass'n for the adoption of the Uniform Traffic 0rdi
~e~erre~ ~o ~he ~oI~ce commission & Dit~Attorne~ ~
a communication w~s rece~ve~ from t~acific ~ater Company calling ~he council's attention to
the fact that fire hydrants should be installed in Division ~'!treet and San Bruno Road before ~he work
of paving begins if the city is contem~latin~ this im!rovement. Referred to the fire commission.
A communication was received fro~ the Chairman Of the Research Con~ittee on Sewage Disposal of
the League of California Municipalities, requesting the Oity of South San Francisco to endorse a ~ro-
posal for State research on general sewage disposal in the State Legislature. Referred to the Health
Officer and City Attorney.
Angelo Eonettini made request for a refm~d of $1.60 charged against him for weeds stated'to have
been cleared from in front of his lot ~ll, block ~Z, Valley Park. Referred to Inspector Brawn.
Guiseppe ~[artinelli, owner of lots~59 and 60, Block97, ~p of South San Francisco, ~r~ade a request
for the refund of ~10.02, taxes paid for'hhouse o~~ the property, claiming ne house exists there. On
verification by the City Clerk the amount was ordered refunded.
Soft drink licenses were granted, k. Oolombori,Peninsula Drug Company,A.Gilepses & g C.Bolopolous,

commission. The application s of Nick Assimos and Frank 4~arker for soft ~rink licenses were denied.
The reporls of the Fire Chief, Chief of Police, Building Inspector, Health Officer and City Clerk
for the month ending December J1, were read and accepted.
This being the date cet for the opening of bids for the construction of the pro?osed Hillside
sign Councilman Lloyd moved the bids be opened. The motion was seconded by Councilman Hynding and
regularly carried. But one bid was submitted, that of A.~attson, for the sum of $.2Z~ cents per square
foot of sign, including all incidental work. On recommendation of Engineer Elassen th~ bid was rejected
by the council as being too high, and new bids wi}l be called for at a future date.
This being the date foe set for the opening of bids for the construction oX a sewer and manholes
in a portion of Swift Avenue Councilman Lloyd moved that bids be o~enmd. The motion was seconded by
Councilman Tibbetts and regularly carried. But one bid was received, that of Hugh Mc~ill. The prices
named in his bid are as follows;-
Item A. Construction of 12" diameter vitrified ironstone pipe sewer with petrolastic cement
joints ~ $1.55 per lineal foot,
Item B. Construction of Red Brick ~anhoies, ca~ped with cast iron frames and covers, complete,
$65.00 each. Total $887.70. The bid being ~atisfactory to the council a resolution of award
was submitted by Co~acilman ~inucciani and adoptea by the unanimous vote of all the members of the City
Council, to-wit;-

Councilman Hynding was authorized to purchase a flag for the Council ~hambers, 7x7 in dimensions.
The matter of the widening~of pavement on Swift Avenue was again ~rought to the attention of the
Council by Comncilman Lloyd. It w~.s agreed that the council and city engineer would go over the street
and make a further study of the project. The clerk was instructed to write E.R.Anthoney, Superintendent
of the Southern Pacific Railroad Company, making re~uest that trains be stopped above and below the
Swift Avenue crossing at rush hours, and also to fill in between the tracks at the same cro~sing, for th~
protection of drivers. Engineer Elasse$ advised the council that plans were nearly complete for the
work, and that the plans for paving Industriul Way and installing a ~rainage system would be submitted
for approval at the next meeting of the City Council.
Representatives of the F AND E Check Writer Sales Company appeared before the council and offered
allow the sum of $20.00 on the city's old check writer and furnish a ne~...kwriter for the sum of i!~52.50
and bond the city against forgery in the s~m of ~ On motion of Councilman Minucciani regular~
seconded and carried 'the offer was accepted.
