The regular meeting of the city council of the City of South San Francisco was held in the City Hall, Eonday evening, December 16th,1929. The meeting was called to order at 7;Z0 o'clock p.m. by councilman A.J.Eschelbach,~ayor of South San Francisco. , ROLL CALL. Roll call found all members of the count.il present~ to-wit;- J.~vhelbach. Councilmen,k. Hynding, R.Lloyd, Li.5~inr, cciani, ~-~.Tibbetts, A. The minutes of the two previous meetings v;ere read. There being no errors or omissions Councilman Hynding moved they be adopted as read. The moti',u was seconded by Cormcilman Lloyd ~and regularly carried. A communica: tion was received from the Local Loyal 0rde~ of L~oose requesting ~ permission to hold a charity Ball in Fraternal Hall Saturday, December ~lst,19Eg. Permission granted. John Yenturi, £07 Third Lane made application for a permit to construct an addition to his present dining room of approximately 12 feet. The Building Inspector and the city council agreed to vlsi the,place for the purpose of gaining f~.rther in!'ormation, Thedore Simons applied for a permit to construct a gasoline station on lots l0 and ll, block 151 and install gasoline pumps, iqe"erred to the Five Chief. A reply w/as received from ~he State i~,otor Vehicle ~el Tax Department, Sacramento,Calif. stating municipalities are not exempt from the u~ayment of the tax on gasoline, hence there can be no ref~ Comm]unication ordered filed. Re'~uest for a weed refund was made by ~,[rs. Weldon of Peck's Lots. The petition contained ~l names and represented approximately SZl& front feet. ~ V ~-a: or ~schelbach stated the city engineer was unable to furnish a definite estimate of the cost of the.-;ori~ on account of the various items to be contended with. Councilman Eynding stated the i~nFrovement would be of great benefit to the north section of tt:e. city, the narrow street holding back its development, ~nd the sooner the work is done the better for all concer~ It was decided to hold another meeting o T~esday, December the l?th,19Eg, at 7;50 o'clock p.m. and discuss the matter further. This being the date set for the openiu~ o:? bids for the improvement of Third Street, Baden Cormcilman H~'ndi~g moved the bids be opened. The motion '~vas seconded by cotmcilman Lloyd and regularly ca: carried. A connnu~iaation from the local ~hamber of Coro]nerce asked that the ~ake action in having the name of the New BaFsh:~ e Highway changed to"BAYSHORE BOULE~?~RD~' The city counci thought well of the suggestion and instructed(0RDI!~CE Y0. .... ) the clerk to write to the various to~,Boards o ~up~_wz ors and development associations suggesting this be done. They were informei the city ~id not-owe them the money, as they had no~' filed g claim for exemption, but thel could ask the land company to file a claim on their behalf and the 'comncil might consider it.
