SOUTH SAN PRANCI~O HELD MONDAY, May 20, 19~§.
The regular meeting of the city council of the City of South San ~rancisco was
held in the City Hall Monday evening, May 20, 19,35.
The meeting was called to order at 8 o'clock p.m. by Mayor Reese
Lloyd.
ROLL CALL
Roll call found all members of the cozmcll present, as follows:
Councilmen V. Boido, f. ~. Mager, Reese Lloyd, R. Tibbetts and M. Minuooiani
The minutes of the previous meeting were read. There being no
errOrS or omissions they were approved as read.
A communication was received from Regina Elena Circle ~9~, Druids
asking perm~sion to hold a dance in ~raternal Hall Saturday evening, May 25,
1935. A money Order of ~5.00 for police protection was enclosed. Permit granted.
A communication was received from the Portuguese Lodge of South San
FranCisco asking permission to hold a dance in ~raternal Hall Saturday evening
June 1 and Sunday afteroon June ~nd and also permission to parade at 10 o'clock
Sunday morning from Paternal Hall to the Catholic Church and back. Permission grant
A communication addressed to Mayor Lloyd from the City of Santa Clara
inviting the city officials and citizens to participate in the Fourth of July
celebration to be held in their city. Mayor Lloyd instructed the Deputy City Clerk
to answer the communication that all that could would attend, Communication ordered

A communication was received from the Peninmula Division, League oS
California Municipalities advising the city of the change of meeting date from
May 2~rd to June 6th. Com~muntcation accepted and placed on file.
An application for a business license was received from Mack B. Salzma~
to engage in a retail 5-10 -1.00 up variety store at 224 Grand Avenue. Application
referred to Mr. Coleberd to ascertain if Mr. Salzman has a lease.
A communication was received from Lewis Degen objecting to the Fire
Chief granting permission to connect an auxiliary system to the fire alarm circuit.
Councilman Mager stated that Fire Chief Welte refused the company permission on
April 30, 1935, to connect the auxiliary. The communication was referred to

An affidavit was received from the South San ~'rancisco Railroad and
Power Company showi.ng their net earnings $10,~11.75 and that 2% of this amount woul
be due the clty .or $205.23. The statement was accepted and placed on file.
Cot~ncilman Tibbetts introduced a resolution of the City of South
Francisco entitled "Resolution of Intention to Abate Weeds, 19~5. The resolution
was adopted by the unanimous vote of all members of the City Council, to-wit:

Noes, Councilmen None Absent, Councilmen, None

M~s. Bcllazzi appeared before the city council Cn behalf of the prop-
erty owners on Railroad Avenue and objected to the storing inflammable chemicals
in the warehouse of the California Iron Yards. Fire Chief Welts s~ed that the 50~
gals. of acetone would be stored in drums holding~50 gals each and there was no mo~
danger than from gasoline, Mrs. Bollazzi referred to the petition previously file
bearing the names of 25 property owners and insisted that the chemicals be removed.
Councilman Mager made a motion to revoke the permit granted to Olmo Draying Co. ar~
have them remove the chemicals from the city. The motion was seconded by Councilma
Tibbetts and regularly carried. D. W. Ratto then entered the meeting and asked th,
Council if the chemicals were to be removed from the city entirely. He was advis,
yes,that if there was danger in one building there would be in another. Mr. Ratto
stated there would be less danger where it was originally stored as people were in
the factory buildings for about V hours a day, and in thei~ homes on Railroad Aven~
24 hours a day. Thereupon Councilman Minucciani made a motion to recind the mot~
Just passed. The motion was seconded by Councilman Boido and duly carried. Coun~
man Boido made a motion to revoke the permit granted to Olmo Draying Co. and allo~
them thirty days to remove to another warehouse. The motion was seconded by Counc~
man Tibbetts and regularly carried.
Chief of Police Louis Belloni brought up the matter of the rice hull
fire located north of the South San Francisco Garbage Dump. He was instructed the~
City Council would meet with him May 21, and go over the situation.
Mr. Spangler asked the City Council if there was anyaction taken on
the playground situation. Mayor LLoyd said that the date for the meeting with the
Board of Education had not definitely been decided on.

The claims having been audited by the finance committee, Councilman Ttbbetts moved
they be paid. The motion was seconded by Councilman Boido and regularly carried.

There being no further business Council/Tibbetts moved to adjourn until
Monday, June 5, 1935, at 8 o'clock p. m. The motion was seconded by Councilman Mager
and regularly carried.
