A regularly adjourned meeting of the City COuncil of the City of South San Francisco
was held in the City Hall Monday evening, June 27,1938.
This meeting was called to order at 7;30 o'clock p.m., by Mayor A.J.Eschelbach.
ROLL CALL.
Roll call found all me~oers of the Council present, as follows;-
Councilmen, V.Boido, A.J.Eschelbach, M.~inucciani,D.W.Ratto, Rod Tibbetts.
The reading of the minutes of the previous meeting was dispensed with.
A communication was received from the South San Francisco Chamber of Commerce advising
the City Council of this city that they favor the county wide advertising program as out-
lined by the San Francisco Peninsula Incorporate~. Andy Hynding, Director of the Chamber,
outlined the method of advertising and stated the cost would be ~1200, :?600 could be paid this
year and ~600 next year. The proposition appeared worthy and Councilman Minucc!~ani moved the
amout be voted. The motion was seconded by Councilman Bo~do and regularly carried. The bureau
will submit a claim for the amounts when due.
The League of California ~un~cip~lities.submitted a large list of San~a Ba~.bara Hotel
names for convention week,together with th~ rates to be charged and named RECREATION CENTER,
the convention auditorium and headquarters. The lists and cmmmunication ordered placed on
file.
Safeway Stores Incorporated asked for a transfer of one of their licenses to t~eir
new store, 33~ Grand Avenue. On motion by Councilmen Minucciani, seconded by Councilman Ratto,
~egularly carried, the re$~est was granted.
A communication was received from Count~ Clerk. William H.Augustus, attaching a copy
of a letter forwarded to District Attorney Gilbert Ferrell,~ stating that by direction of the
Board of Supervisors of San ~ateo County he was transmitting a letter from Engineer R.A.
Klassen with reference to a proposed erosion project in the Colma Creek District. Engineer Klassen
explained and outlined to the ~ity Council the p~rpose of a resolution which he had prepared
concerning the matter, and submitted and reco~aended its adoption.
RESOLUTION NO. 653.
Councilman Minucciani thereUpon introduced the resolution, which: is entitled;-

The claim~ having been audited by the finance cor~ittee Councilman Tibbetts moved
they be paid. The motion wa~ seconded by councilman Boido an~ regularly carried.
Under the,.He~d~f dnffnZShed', business the application of E.~ottino to build a dwelling in t
restructed zone in Linden Avenue was taken up. ~r. Cap!telli asked what portion, in any, wo~
be available for dwellings under a re~ision of the zoning ordinance. Mayor Eschelbach state~
that when the work of re-zon~ug the avenue comes up all property owners will be notified to
appear and take part in makinE a settlement of the question.
Under the head of new business Councilman Minucciani reco~mended that action be take
by the City Councilman on a report made l~st year by a Committe on fire department matters,
which advocated an expenditure ~f approximately ~Z5,000 for new equippment and imDrovements.
Councilman Minucciani said 'i~provement . of the fire house was needed and urged that
additional equipment be secured to keep pace with the growth of the city. Fire Chief Welte
stated ~h~t i,~ addition to the improvements proposed and the acquisition of additional
equipment two more men should be added to ~he fire dep~rtment. Councilman ~oido thought one
main fire house should be established, and if necessar~ a ~ond issue floated. After conside
discussion the matter w~s referred to Councilman ~inucciani for further study.
Referring to the matter, of the proposed Co~nunity Center ~ayor Eschelbach inquired i
Architect Reidy how soon the project would get under way. ~r. Heidy stated that if all worke
fast it would take about three weeks. Councilman Hatto inquired as to how ~r. ~e~dy was ap~
as architect. ~ayor EschelDach stated he wa~ selected at the l~st of the committee, at whtc?
councilman was not present. Councilman Hatto oxplained~that ~r. Heidy was a very competent
tect, but he did not know of his appointment.
There being no further ~usiness before the board Councilman ~inucciani wov d to adj¢
until Tuesday evening, July Sth, l~JS, at 8 o'clock p.m. The motion was seconded by Counci~
Ratto and re$~larly carried.
