OF THE CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO,HELD
TUESDAY, OCTOBER llTH,1938.
~ regularly adjourned meeting of the City Council of the City of South San Francisco
was held in the City Hall, Tuesday evening,October llth,1938.
The meeting nas called to order at 7;30 o'clock p.m. by Mayor A.J.Eschelbach.
ROLL CALL.
Roll call found all members of the City Council present,as follows;-
Councilmen, V.Boido.A.J.Eschelbach,M.Minucciani,D.W.Ratto,Rod Tibbetts.
The reading of the minutes of the 0revious meeting was dispensed with.
Mayor Eschelbach asked the city attorney as to the status of the Linden Avenue Job.
Mr. Coleberd stated engineer Klassen was in favor of resurfacing the street and deducting
the amount from the amount due the Union Paving Company. He exolained that this could not b,
without advevertising for bids. and besides, there was still a chance that the matter might
be settled by arbitration. He had tried to communicate with Joe Dowling and Carson of the
paving company but not not yet gotten in contact with them, but would continue trying until
he received an answer.
~ communication was received from Mr. Andrew Rocca of the Bank of ~merica, by City
Attorney Coleberd, advising that the city should ad4ress a communication signed by the May(
and City Clerk, to K.A.Godwin,Acting Regional Director. Public Works ~dministration, 1210
Hewes Building,San Francisco,California, stating that the City of South San Francisco woul
again submit proposition providing the Sponsor's money for the Recreational Center and
swimming tank to the voters of the city at the November 8,1938 general election, and that t!
probability of its passing appeared favorable, and to ~old~t~[e~a~l~C~io~ open.
Moved by councilman Tibbetts that the City Clerk write such a letter ~o the authoriies
mentioned. The motion was seconded by Councilman Boido and regularly carried.
~ petition signed by 567 names of the people of South San Francisco was submitted by
Mrs. Bramble, recuesting the City Council of the City of South San Francisco to submit to tl
~ualified electors of the city the pr'~position to incur a bonded indebtedness in the sum o~
~ll3,000 to construct · REcreational Center Buildings and a swimming tank and::~appurtenances
thereto, at the coming November 8,1938 general election.
Mayor Eschelbach inquired of City Attorney the probable cost of submitting the issue t(
people at the November electiom. Mr Coleberd atated the polling places, booths and electio~
officers will be furnished by the County of San Mateo, that the city's obligations would be
small, needing only the ballots,some printing and precinct rosters and tally sheets. ~bout [
signatures would be required, he stated, that being 15% of the approximate vote for Governo~
in South San Francisco in 1934.
Councilman Minucciani moved that the City Clerk be instructed to requested to verify t!
signatures on the petition with the records on file in Redwood City. The motion was seconde¢
by Councilman Tibbetts and regularly carried.
Councilman Minucciani stated the fire chief recommended that wind shields be installed
on the two fire engines. The cost, he stated would be about $200 for each wagon, i~eferred t(
the fire committee.
There being no further business before the board,Councilman Tibbetts moved to adjourn
until Thursday evening, October 13,1938, at 7;30 o'clock P.M. The motion was seconded by
Councilman Boido and regularly carried.
