HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes 1939-12-18 Regular meeting ~of~-~the ~City ' Council of the City of South San Francis was held' in the City Hall December 18, 1939, Monday evening. The meeting was caI~d to order at eight o'clock p. m. by Mayor A. J. Eschelbach. Roll' call found al'l members of the City Council prese~ as follows: V. Bold,, A. J. Eschelbach, M. Minuccia~, D. W. Ratto and Rod Tibbetts. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. Missions- Communications. was received from the California/Trails Associatien requesting- the city to send a representative to the annual convention at Santa Cruz January 19 ti and 13th~. The council was:. agreeable and will appoint somebody later. The clerk was instructed to write to that effect. G. Gagliani made a request for the Christmas lighting system as far west ~s So~uce Avenue. Ohief of Police ~elloni ~eoorted that ex-offic r C.D was definitely out of the city service ~.nd wisked that record made.~So or,d.red. Communication was received from ~the South San Francisco Land and Improveme~ Co. acknowle~dging receipt of the city's lette~-of November ~Sth, 1939 regarding t!o re- opening ~the matter of the purchasing of the beach site~ stating that at the time the mater was considered in April 193~, the matter was fully discussed with D. W. Ratto a~ the price su~nitted was ~16,600.00,the assessed value of the land, but they were will~. to accept ~9,500.oo providing that this value be reflected in the assessment of the of the adjoining property. The clerk was instructed to ~J~;write and ascertain how much of 'the adjoining property was to be reflected in this v~luation before any actio~ could be taken. A communication was received from the South San Franciso L~ud and Improvement Co. asking the city to install a sewer of approximately 1500 feet in length north of the Hillside Boulevard for ~the purpose of opening a new subdivsion. The city expressed their willirg~ness to co-operate. O0 Total $5 208.22 The claims having been audited by the finance committee. Councilman Ratto moved they be paid. The motion was seconded by Councilman Tibbet~ and duly carried. Under'the head of unfinished business Citb Engineer Marshll repqrted t!at the eew~ at the intebsection ~ayshore Highway near Cortest's had been flushed out. TL~e enginee~ also reported that the propos ition for~ for a proposed side/:alk on tl~e west side of thr ,~ayshore highraw from Chapsan to A_~nour avenues was being considered . Councilmam Ratto reported many serious accidents happening on the ~ayshor~ n6rtl~ of Miller Avenue amd reque~'te~ that something should be done to prevent them Mayor Eschelbac~ volunteered to organize a Eommiittee and work with them and see the State engineers and see ~J,'hat could be done. Councilman Hatto broujht to the al tention of the cit~ council t-~e serious bad reputation of the H~x Club, dec;arin it .a disgrace and should be done away with. All coincilmen agree,~.~ that the place w ~ a nui'~'anc~ Chief of Police ~elloni stated he had raide~.! the place, and it ?~ss a nuisance. The City Clerk was instructed to write the State Board of i Equalization ~otifying them to issue no more liecnses to the place and none to be issue~, by ti-., city.. ~rs Souza appeared b~fore the council and reported she had been prohibited ~fro$ sell ~]ee~ca cies in her ~akery on Sundal mormings and intim~.'ted that otb, r stores were selling through the back doors on Sunda~ mornings, against the law. After lomg discussion it was decid.~d to refez the matter .to the Busine~.smens Association, who originall~ drafted the ordinsnce~ and t.he city clerk was instrucved to coNEunicate the facts to the,/ Councilman ~inucciani stated ~r _Mutti~ was a cod a faithful workman, stead~ and relaible, ,~nd deserved a little more pay. H accordingly move thatthe salary of l~,~r. ~,Jluttl be raised ~$10 per momth commencing January lst,19~0. The motion was seconded by Councilman Boido and regularly carried J Councilman Tibbetts moved that the salaries of all city employees on a monthly basis be paid befo~ Christman Day.
