HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes 1940-01-02 The regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Sout~ San Francisco was held in City Hall Tuesday evening, January ~,1940/ The meeting was called~to order at 8 o'clock P.~. by mayor A.J.Esc~elbach. ROLL CALL. Roll call found the following named councilmen present;- Councilmen,V.Boido, A.J.Eschelbach, ~.~inucciani, D.W.Eatto. Councilman absent, Rod Tibbetts. L The minutes of the Dec.18, meeting were read. There being no errors or omissions, they were aoproved as read. A com~unication was received from the Business and Professional Women of South San Frar stating that at their December meeting the association voted favorably on a motion to cont! the recreation department under ~r. Ahaffer, and requested the council to renew the contract 19~0. ~ayor Eschelbach stated he was informed considerable damage was done to ~ark ~roperty ~ 0la,grounds b~ the older and rougher children. Councilman Eatto believed that the parents the children should co-operate with the recreation dep~rtment in restraining children from damaging city property, and that the phrents should be notified and requested to work in co- operation with the authorities. ~r.Shaffer of the recreational department stated that there now much less violence committted by the c~,ildren than previously, the children becoming fan with t~e department's instructions and advice. ~he matter was laid over for two weeks. A communication was received from the Garden Section of the Women's Club of South San Francisco complementing the city council on~ the, beau~if~ way ~he ctty~was~decorated for th~ holidays . The co~munication was accepted with the thanks of the city. Acknowledgment was received from the State Board of Equalization of the receipt of the letter requesting the revocation of the liquor license of Antonette ~ambero for moral reasoz The reply stated that Don Narshall filed a co~plaint against the place and the hearing would held in Redwood City at the Supervisors room, December M6,at ~ o'clock P.~, and requested t~ city to have a representative there if they so desired.. Chief of Police Belloni stated the hearing was c~ntinued until a later date. A communication was received from Foster & Kleiser regarding the operation of the new billboard ordinance,stating the rate was highly excessive and asked for a hearing on the ma~ The City Clerk was instructed to not~fy all billboard comoanies that the city cou~cil will ~ a meeting in the city hall Nonday evening, January 8,1~40, at which all interested parties ¢ be heard. The South San Franc~o Land & Imp.Co., replied to the city's letter of December 19,re~ to t~e proposition of ascertaining prices and terms of some beach property, stating they wo~ like to meet wit~ the city council and assessor in the matter and reach an adjustment satis~ tory to the city and the land company. No specific offer was submitted. Councilman ~inucc~ suggested the city clerk write the company again and ask at what price they would sell the 1 lots and the dry land acreage at the point where it was proposed to ~mprove a beach. So ord~ Bids from various oil and gasoline companies were submitted. The council decided to t~ no action at this meeting, it being apparent that other bids might be submitted. The monthly reports of the City Duilding Inspector, City Judge, Chief of Police, Fire Chief~ Pound~eeper for the month ending December 31,1~, were received . ~uilding !nspecto~ Welte submitted an annual reaort of all traneactions in the city's building for the Lyear l~ showing the best year since 19M6, with figures for all types of constr~ction totaling ~4Zl~ Judge Hardy's receipts for the month of December totaled ~lR~.00. Councilman Ratto moved t~e reports be accepted a s read. ~he motion was seco~ded by Councilman ~lnucciani and re~ arlyl,carried. Under the head of unfinished business City Engineer i~arshell reported nothing furth~ been done about the proposition to construct a sidewalk on the west Side of Oa~s~ore ~i~wa~ between Armour Avenue and Chapman Avenue. ~ayor Eschelbach reoorted that he had not yet met with t~e State Engineer's office in the matter of securing stop and go signals at Butler Road. The sewers in the vicinity of t~e Armour Packing Company, ~etal ~ Thermit Co.,Ameri~ ~arble & ~osaic Co.,etc, were again reoorted backing up and overflowing. The city ~ng~neer ~ instructed to make a survey of the premises and the city attorney was instructed to write t~ companies in the matter of securing easemants for construction work.
