CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO,HELD MONDAY,
JULY, 18TH,1940.
The regular meeting of the city council of the City of South San Francisco was held in
the city hall,Monday evening, July 15,1940.
The meeting vas called to order at 8 o'clock P.M. by Mayor George W.Holston.
ROLL CALL.
Roll call found all members of the council present, as follows;-
'Councilmen, V.Bo~.do, George W.Holston,Reese Lloyd, D.W.Ratto, Rod Tibbetts.
The minutes of the previous meeting were read. There being no errors or omissions
they were approved as read.
An application was made by James Harold Ahrendt for e license to conduct a bicycle sto~
at $05 Linden Avenue. License g~anted.
A copy of a letter submitted to the Planning Commission for their approval of a locati~
for the Santo Cristo Society of South San Francisco to conduct a headquarters and picnic
grounds was read to the city council. B.J.R~dondi and Engineer Marshall reported that the
people of the Town of Baden seem to have no objections to the presence of the Rroposed grounl
on the blocks mentioned. Councilman Ratto advised that the endorsement of the residents ,
of th~ subdivision should be in writing for the guidance of the council. It was decided to t~
the matter up again at the next meeting of the board,when the Planning Commission would be ii
a position to make their findings known,
Elmer W~Coole applied for permission to paint house numbers on curbs in the city.
Permission was not granted and the application was ordered filed.
Secretary of the Laague of California ~ities,Richard GraVes, submitted a request for ti
city to select subjects of vital importance to the city, to be discussed at the league's
convention at San Diego, September 16 to 19th, next. The request was ordered filed.
The monthly reports of the city treasurer and city librarian for the month ending June
30,19~0, were submitted,and on motion by councilman Ratto,seconded by councilman Lloyd, and
regularly carried,accepted as read and filed.

An ordinance entitled "AN ORDINANCE CREATING THE OFFICES OF CAPTAIN OF POLICE,
LIEUTENANT OF POLICE, AND SERGEANT OF POLICE I~ THE CITY OF
SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO AND PRESCRIBING THE DUTIES OF EACH OF SUCH 0FFICE~
WAS introduced by councilman Boido,had its first title reading and was laid over to come up
under the regular order of business at the next regular meeting of the city council.

The claims having been audited by the finance committee councilman Tibbetts moved they ~e paid.
The motion was seconded by councilman Boido and regularly carried.
Nnder the head of unfinished business Police Chief Belloni reported the estimated cost
to install stop and go signals at Maple ~ Grand Avenues would be $1380. Laid over for con-
sideration.
B.J.Rodondi reported the school board was agreeable to allowing the city use of School
Lot No.6 , Grand Avenue Extsnsion No.1, on Grand Avenue, for children's playground purpoees.
He was requested to put the consent of the S.~hool Board in writing.
There being no furt!er business before'the council Councilman Lloyd moved to adjoura
until Monday evening, July ~2,1940 at 8 o'clock P.M. The motion was seconded by Councilman
Tibbetts and regularly carried.
