The claims having been auditeS, by the finance committee, Councilman Lloyd moved
they be paid. The motion was seconded by Councilman Ratto and duly carried.
The air gun ordinance had its seconded rea~ing. Councilman Ratto questioned the para-
gr~Dh making it illegal to possess a BB gun. He contended that since he owns such a
~ he would be breaking the law under this o~dinance. After discussion is was decid-
ed that the City Attorney~draft~a new ordinance omitting this paragraph.
~¥~r. G. C. Welle~ addressed the city council regarding city ordinances, asking if
it would be possible to get copies in book fo~m for reference use in the schools
and library. Councilman Ratto said that the ordinancesshould be brought up to date.
· Ai~ter discussion City Engineer Marshall said that in many cities the work of com-
piling a synopsis of ordinance, etc. is made a W P A project. He was instructed
to d~et information with a view of having this work done.
Councilman Boido asked about the playground at grand Avenue Extension. Engineer
~,~srshall advised that Ucelli still has lettuce on one lot which will be ready for
market in about 2 or three weeks~ and Pietronave has a~rage on the other lot
for which he said he was given the privelege of keeping there when he sold the lot.
An investigation was to be made of this situation. Councilman Boido also advised
that the Eucalyptus Avenue Park was being leased for ~i~5.00 a year by someone to
gardeners and thought possibly the city could get th~s money. City Attorney Cole-
be~d advised that when the land was purchased from the Land Company the deed con-
tained a clause whereby the land could only be used for park purposes. He said it
would be a matter to take up with the Land Company to have this clause modified.
City Engineer ~,'Iarshall suggested erecting a foot bridge over the creek leading to
the ~,~6rtin school for the benefit of Paradise Valley and Peck's Lots residents.
Councilmau Ratto suggested this be held up as there was a thought of trading the
Eucalyptus and I~lartin Parks property for beach property. ~r. Weller s&id the
parents are endeavoring to have school bus service to take the children to and from
school.
The matter of the sidewalk on Bayshore .~iighway between Armour and Chapman Avenues
was disct~ssed and Engineer l,~arshall was instm~cted to secure a contractor to do the
job.
The matter of erecting three .signs at various points designating the Post ~0ffice
Building was discussed. Chief of Police Belloni was a~thorized to check with the
· 7
Automobile Association about havmn~ these si~ns installed.
There ~being no further business before the Council, Councilman Lloyd moved to ~d-
Journ.to Monday evening August 26th, 1940, at 8:00 o'clock p.m. The motion was
seconded by Councilman Tibbetts and regularly carried.
Time of adjournment 10:10 o'clock p. m.
