HELD TUESDAY, SEPTE~BER 3, 1940,
The red, lair meeting of the city council of the city of South San Francisco was held
in the city. hall Tuesday evening, September 3, 1940.
The meeting was called to order at 8 o~ clock p. m, by Mayor C-eo. W. Holston
Roll call 'found all members of the city cotmcil present, as follows: Councilmen
V. Bo!do, t~od TibUetts, 9eo. W. Holston, D. W. Ratto. Reese Lloyd
The ~dnut~s of the prew_ous meetmn¢~ were read. Ihere being no error~ or omissions
they were ~pproved as read.
A communi6ation was received from the P. G. & E. asking permission to install
225~ cf main in the sidewalk area on the west side of Ar~.en Avenue. The communicatior
was referr6d to Cmmcilman Tibbetts.
A communi6ation was received from the California Water Service setting forth the
rate at which they'will supply water to the city and schools in South San Francisco.
The cormmuni cat ion was ordered filed.
A communi6 at ion was received from Emil Person stating he had mailed bid invitations
to Jack Hi6key, D. Colombo, H. Baldlni and ~¢. Minucciani for work on the Library
Addition. 'Communication ordered filed. ~
A communi6ation was received from the South San Francisco Land and Improvement
Company asMing the city t5 return the una¢cepted deed covering a portion of Ind;~.strial
Way. Afte~ disucssion the matter was lald over in order that Y. ayor Holston might
discuss th~ matter with Mr. Shaw. ~
Andrew Hynding, Chairman of the So. San Francisco Planning CommissiSn asked per-
mission to'attend the Plarming Commissio~ Convention in San Diego. On motion by
Councilman~Tibbetts, seconded by Councilman Boido and duly carried ~.,~.r. Hynding was
granted permission to attend the convention.
The monthl~ reports for the month.endinS Au.~st 31, 1940, were received from the
Health Officer, Pound~ster, City Judge, Chief of Police, Building Insnector, Fire
Chief and City Olerk. On motion duly made and carried the reports we'~e ac~oted

Councilman~Boido introduced~a~resolutlon of the city of South San Francisco fixing'
the tax rate for the fiscal yea~ 1940-41. ~The resolution was'adopted by the votes
of all members of the city council, as follows: Ayes, Councilmen V. Boido, Rod
Tibbetts, Geo. W. Holston, D. W. R~tto, Reese Lloyd.

Health Officer McMills reported on the complaint of the pigeon nuisance on Railroad
Avenue and the burning of rubbish in the rear of the J~miper Avenue grocery.
He stated the pigeon houses were in a sanitary condition as was the yard in the rear
of the grocery store. He said he requested the store to d~np their vegetable refuse
instead of burning it.
Mayor Holston asked Health Officer ~gcmills about the condition of the United Packing
Company. MeMills said men from the county health office w~re coming up Thursday to
look over the situation and make recommendations.
Claims in the amount of $9,346.~1 were next preaented to the council for payment:

The claims having been adulted bY the finance committee, Ccunc~.].msm~ Tibbetts moved
they be paid. The motion was seconded by Councilman Ratio mud ddl¥ carried.
City Attorney Coleberd a~.:~, permission to leave the State w-~ile att'~din~ the
San Diego Convention in o~er to make a trip to Boulder Dam. On motion duly ~ad.e .
and carried permission was granted. '
Building Inspector Welte brougjht bezore the coun~._l a. pi for the alteration of
Mrs. Johnson's residence at 4~7 Grand Avenue. After ~
dis ;~ssion the b,~i!ding in-
specter was to advise mrs. Johnson to bring in an appraism~nt of the building
to ascertain the ?ercentage of improvement.
There appearing no ~rther busines~ before the council ~ozJmi!man Tibbettc moved to
adjourn to the next regular meeting. The motion was seconded by Councilman ' Lloyd
and regularly carried. Time of adjour.~uent 9:00 p. m.
