This meeting was called~t8 order at 8 o'clock P.M. by Mayor George W.Holston.

R611 call found all members of the council present, as ~ollows;-
C$uncilmen, V.Boido, George W.Holston, Reese Lloyd, D.W.Ratto, Rod Tibbetts.
The reading of the minu~es of the previous meeting was dispensed with.'

A communication was received from Charles RObinson, tendering his resignation from the
police force of the city. On motion by councilman Tib0etts,seconded by Councilman ~oido
and regularly carried the resignation was accepted.
Four applications for the position of city police officer were received.. They were as
follows; Michael R.Lamuth, Ben La Mar, Robert A.Bennet, and 0reste Zampattl. Councilman
Boido moved that Michael R.Lamuth be appointed to the position of police officer, made~.Lvacant
Robinson,
by the resignation of Charles, for a probationary period of six months at a salary of $150 per
month. The motion was seconded by councilman Tibbetts and regularly carried by the following vote;-
Ayes, Councilmen,V.Boido,George W.Holston,Reese Lloyd, D.W.Ratto, Rod Tibbetts.
Noes~,Councilmen,None, A~sent,Councilmen None. Councilman Ratto announced that all future
appointments should come from the civil service list.
Councilman Tibbetts introduced a resolution of the City Council of the City of South San
Francisco endorsing proposition No.l~, to ~e voted o~ November 5th,next. This amendment to the
present law would permit cities and counties to spend revenues received from the from "in lieu"
tax and liquor license fees for local general purposes. The resolution was adopted by the votes of
all the members of t~e city council,as follows;- Ayes, Councilmen,¥.Boido,George W.Holst°n,
Reese Lloyd, D.W.Ratto, Rod Ti~betts. Noes,Councilmen,None. AbSent,Councilmen,None,Attest;-

councilman Tibb~tts~ proposed the following adjustments of t~ e salaries of certain employees,-
Joseph Quaresima to $190 a month, Jack Hickey to $1S0 a month,Melvin Watson to $100 a month,Sam
~everini to $150 a month,and E.0ttenfield to $1V0 a month. On roll call all members of the council
voted Aye. In the case of Charles Lema a separate motion was required by Councilman Tibbetts for
the reason Councilman Ratto opposed a raise for him on account of a letter submitted by Mr. Lema
s?me~-time ago criticising the councilman. The councilman stated he would opose a raise for any City
employee who attaks city officials. The motion to raise Mr. Lema's salary was carried by four to
one. Councilman Ratto voted NO. The salaries of those raised was made retroaction to October
1st. The salaries of laborers was raised to $5.00 pot diem,beginning October lSth,1940. AdoLfo
Soldani 'salary was changed from monthly to daily pay,commencing November !,1940. ~n motion by
Councilman Lloyd , regularly carried a new De Soto car will be purchased for the fire chief.
Chief of Police Belloni was authorized to turn in the old motorcycle fo~ a new one.
City attorney Coleberd was instructed to call for bids for the De Soto.
There being no further business before the board Councilman Lloyd moved to adjourn until
the next regular meeting Monday, October 21,1940.
