The regular meeting of the city council of the City of South San ~ancisco was held in
the city hall,Monday evening, November 18,1940.
The meeting was called to order at 8 o'clock P.M. by Mayor George W;Holston.
ROLL CALL.
Roll call found all members of the council present, as follows;-
Councilmen,V.Botdo,George W.H~lston,Reese Lloyd, D.'..?/.Ratto, Rod Tibbetts.
The minutes of the two previous meetings were read. Th~..m~nU~a~o~;No~;:;~th;were]co?rected to

Permission was requested by the Pacific Gas & Electric Company to extend their ~" gas
main in Acacia Ave., between Third Lane & Baden Ave., amproximately 80'. Referred to Counc~lman
Tibbetts and the desired permission .granted.
A co~munication was received ~rom Architect mvterson of the Library stating that !'r. Person,
tle contractor,~ hsd removed some shelves on.the request of the L~brarian and he had re~-
laced the ~ame with wainscoatin?, ~aint~ng,etc, and the clsi,~', f"~r the work amounted to ~96.20,
Mr. Gutterson stated he believed the claim is ~usttfied. Councilman Lloyd stated the request for
the change should have been made to the city,and did not believe'tke claim was in order. The matter
was laid over for further consideration.
~he American Legion Auxiliary submitted a communication to the City Council requesting that
a City Recreation Commi?sion be created. The mater was referred to Chairman Hardy and the recreation Co~
~~nd a list ordered sent to the Auxiliary.
Application was made by Df. John Tocchini,Chairman , Dance ComEittee TiDpecanoe Tribe lll,F.O
E. requesting p~mission to hold a dance Thanksgiving Eve. Permission. cranted.,,o
A comn~unication was received from The State Compensation Insurance Fund stating that an
adjustment had been made in settlig the compensation to foe ~aid to MrsC.Rostoni~ that t!ey hsd forward"
ded the sum of ~i~1V9..55 to her, for nine weeks compensation and $150 funeral expenses, and that the
sum of ~19.95 a week would be sent to her for ~80 Weeks. The arrangement was satisfactory tc the '
City Council.
Chief of Police Selloni submitted the names of Bendo Papini and John Di Bene as special
policemen-watchmen at the Western Pipe ~.1 Steel Company. On motion by Councilman Ratto,sec~.~nded by
Councilman Tibbetts a nd regularly carried the appointments were confirmed/
The monthly reoorts of the Librarian, Health Officer and Cit~~ Treasurer for the month end-
ing Oatober 31,1940%were submitted and on motion by Councilman Lloyd, seconded by Councilman Ratto,
accepted as read.
RESOLUTION N0986.
A resolution zoning Southwood Subdivision of South San Francisco was introduced by councilman
Boido. The resolution was adooted by the votes of all the members of the council, as follows;-

An ordinance, entitled"AN ORDI~ANCE REGULATING TRAF~':IC UPON 5~E PUBLIC STREETS
OF THE CITY OF ouu~ SAN FRANCISCO" was introduced by councilman
Boido, Lad its first reading and was laid over to come up before the city council at its next
regular meeting.
Chief of Police Oelloni reported attending to the matter of the request of the South San
Francisco echool department for increased police ~rootet.Lon. After discussion regarding pln-ball
game the city atto~hey ~a~ instructed to draw up an brdinance regulating its operation.

California Wire Cloth Co.,branch of the Colorado Fuel and Iron Company, who, he stated were looking
over sites With a view to building a plant in the west, and asked if the City of South San Fran-

Industrial area. /.~fter weighing the proposition thoroughly it was agree~ t~at'the city would finance
the building of tke re, ad, which, it was estimated by the city engineer, womld be approximately

500 men, and cost ;~1,000,000. The city attorney was instructed to write the co,stating the city would build

Referring to ~he'matte'r of securing [3each property for the city,Councilman Ratto stated
that the So.S.F.Land & Imp.Co., would not reduce t~:e price,,but offered to consider reducing the
]~rice on tide land 10ts and increase the price on solid ground. Mayor~Holston appointed as a
committee of the council to wait uoon ~Ir. Shaw and see what could be done, Councilmen Ratto,
Lloyd and Holston.
Councilman Lloyd moved that City attorney Coleberd be sent as the city's delegate to
the Municipal Attorneys Convention in Washington, D.C. that expenses of ~230 be allowed, and with
permission to leave the state. The motion was seconded by Cooncilman Tibbetts and regularly carried.
Claims in the amount of ~3,933.11 were presented to the council for payment;-
