A regularly adjourned meeting of the city council of t~e City of South San Francisco
was held i.~ the C it~ Hall ¥onday evening, June 9th,1941.
This meeting was called to order at 8 o'clock ~.~.~. by Yayor George ?.~.Holston.
ROLL CALL.
Roll call found the following nemed councilmen oresent,-
,Councilmen, V.Boido,Ceorge ~.Holston, D.W. Ratto, Rod Tibbetts.
Abeent , Councilman, Reese Lloyd.
The reading of the minutes of the previous meeting was dispensed ~'ith.
This being the date set for the opening of bids to furnish rock for the construc-
tion of a base on East Grand Avenue, Councilman Tibbetts moved thut the bids be openrd. The ~
motion v'as seconded by Councilman Rstto and regularly carried.
But two bids %,ere submitted, those of Jas.~.Baker and the ~ission ~Quarry Company.
The ¥ission Cuqrry Compqny the sum of eighty-nine cents for crusher run rock,
James ~.Baker bid the sum of D.97 cents for crusher run rock, with a supplementary bid
of ~.60 for uncrushed rock from back of the Bethleham ~teel Corporation, the gray shale rock
as selected oy the City Engineer from South San Francisco ~'and ~ Improvement Com!.any, same
to be well sh, ot up,hut not passed tl~rough crusher,will furnish free and maintain l0 or l~
ton three wheel roller to roll same on bed in two equal layers and any pieces too large to
break up with roller will be ~,icked up his truck free with city labor, and added shale wil-
be supplied i~ equal amount on the road,city to furnish rollerman, ·gas~and oil to maintain
roller~ and will ~o work according to plans and speci~ications satisfactory to the engineer
of South San ~'rancisc~ Engineer i~,~arsl~a±l explained that the rock is O.K., and would save
the cit~ about ,~1700, which could be put into top bitumen. Councilman Tibbetts move the award
be granted ~r. Oaker for the 60cent bid. ~he motion was seconded b~, Councilman katto and
regularly carried. Accordingly councilman Ratto introduced a resolution cf the cit~ council
of the City of South San ~'ra~cisco awarding the contract to supply the city with rock for
a base on East Grand Avenue to James S.Baker for the price mentioned in his bid, ,i~.60 a cubic
~ard ut~ to 6000 yerads; The resolution ':/as adopted by tt~e votes of all the members of the City
Council present,as follows;- Ayes, Counciln:en, V.Boido,~;eorge W.Eolston, D.W.Ratto,Rod

Councilman ~:ibbetts introduced a resolution of the Cit~ Count, il of the Cit],' of South
San D'rancisco authorizing execution of cooperation agreement with the Lousing Authority of the
Cit~ of South San ~rancisco. The resolution was adopted by the votes of all the ~.embers of
the Cit~~ Council present, as follows, A~..es, Councilmen, V.Doido, ~eorge ¥~.holston, D.W.Ravto,
Rod ~ibbetts. ].(oes, Councilmen,None. Absent, Council'r~'.an, Reese Lloyd. ~ecorded. in itook of

A communication was received from City Engineer '"arshall notifying tl.e city' of the
need of another small dump truck,stating the Otate i~ighway i as a ~ihite 1,~35 Chaste in sppar-
entl~ good shape with nearlF new ti. res tt~st will sell without advertising for from ,~300 to
,~400, and is at ti:e Oaklsndl Shops And a ~arwood du~.~p body in San ~rancisco has a new
dump with good hoist worth about .~;4~7. Le v/a.s instructed and autLorized to negoitate about this
purchase.
In another communication ~.~r. -.arshsll stated tie city,needs asp?.altic co~rete and
sheet asphalt to cover tle Portland cement concrele ~n ~h~ tr~,nches from which tt.e stree~
car rails were re~':oved between ~ayshore ,~ Linden Avenue, and reco,-,~ended that the price of' the
~nio~; ~aving Compan)',,~3.50 per ton be accepted, as deliverc~ed on the job; the t::,.tal cost to
be ~4~0. Councilman 5ib.,etts moved t!e engineer be irspowere~l to acceot the offer and proceed

meeting'_ of the Peninsula League of ~s. lif Cities would be held in Villa "-ate~,Thursday,~: ne

The claims having been audited by the finance committee councilman Tibbetts moved
they be paid. The motion was seconded by councilman Boldo and regularly carried.
City Engineer ~arshall reported that anoth~truck was needed by the cit~,. He stated
one could be secured for from ~250 to ,300. Councilman Tib~etts moved the engineer be author-
ized to purchase one of the State's trucks, not to exceed in amount ~$300. ~he motion was
seconded by Councilman Boido ~nd regularly carried.
~here being no furtker business before the board Councilman Tibbetts moved to adjourn
until Monday evening, June *~1941 at 8 o'clock P.~. The motion was seconded by councilman
Boido and regularly carried. .......
