The regular meeting of the city council of the City of South San Francisco was h. eld in t!

The meeting was called to order at 8 o'clock P.~. by Nayor George W.Holston.
ROLL CALL.
Roll call found the following members of the council present.as follows;-
Councilmen, V.Boido,George W.Holston,Reese Lloyd, D.W.Ratto.
Absent, Councilman,Rod Tibbetts.
The minutes of the two previous meetings were read.There being no errors or omissions the

A communication was received by Mayor holston from District Engineer Jno.H. Ske8gs in an:
to the Mayor's letter concerning street lighting on the Bayshore Highway between Linden Avel
and the northerly limits of South San F~ancisco, in which Mr. Skeggs stated a study had bee~

Avenue was in bad shape from heav~ trucking , many holes in the pavement and repairs needed.
The city clerk was requested to reply stating that the ~ company was only awaiting the arr~
of pipes to make new installations, and expected the materials soon.
A communication from the California Water Service Compan~ was received in acknowledgme~
of the city's letter referring to complaints of water users in Parkwa~ ~errace where it was

city's letter of OctRber V,1941,including their check in the stnv, of $599.~ for street pavem,
and their letter of ~'~ay lo~n which they intimated that the city should be responsible for a~
future overflow of f~ood wa~ers. The company furnished a new check in the sum of $599.~ to
cover their share of the improvement of Ea~ Gra~,~d Avenue,and reoinded their letter of ~'~ay 19
and with no strings attached to the present check. Communication accepted and orde~ed placed
file.
A communication was received from the State Compensation Insurance r~nd statin8 there wl
be no dividend allowed the City of South San Francisco this year for the reason that the cos'
of accidents exceeded the premium of the ~olicy. Communication accepted and placed~on file.

Avenue,stating that the Board of Equalization had granted 6he license to said Virginia Newral
but that an~ further objections to the granting of the license would be received for a perio.

A petition signed by 84 residents,citizens and taxpayers of Peck's Lots and vicinity , ~
submitted , requesting the city to enlarge tLe playground in Peck's Lots so that the larger
fen could use one section and the smaller children be separated and in another section of th~
plaNgrounds. Another petition signed by 6Z persons from the vicinity of the present playgrou~
opposed the enlargement of the playground for boys of the larger type on the ground there sh~
be no baseball played there on account of the danger of persoms being, hurt, and also on acco'
dust conditions. B.J.Rodondi submitted a deed for two lots adjoing the present playgrounds
Peck's Lots, to be had by the city for the sum of ~450. After long discussion Nayor Holston
advised that the matter be referred to the Recreation Commission who will report back to the
Council at the next meeting.

under-the firm name of AI~RICAN HOFES, submitted a petition to annex ~7.~85 acres or unznns

territory south and west of'Southwood No.1, to the City of South San ~Tancisco. After being sworn
in by the city clerk Mr. Williams answered all questions regarding his request for annexation
satisfactorily to City Attorney' Coleberd.
Asked by councilman Hatto what class curbing he intended to lay~ in the proposed Southwood
No.2, Mr.Wiiliams stated he had not arrived at that stage of the workt but would satisfy the
council when the time was ripe for tLe work. Councilman Ratto stated he would not agree to the
installation of the kind of curds and gutters installed in Southwood No.l~under any circumstances,

Councilman Ratto reported dense traffic congestio~betWeen Edwards Wire Compan~ and Western
Pipe & Steel Company on Butler Avenue~ many ~imes during the day,and stated in case of fire t~e
fire engine could not get through. Hdgh McNellis of Peck'S Iota confirmed this statement. The
police department was instructed to order lines tbroughCthe tfaffic kept open at all times. It
was suggested the parking ondinance be strictly enforced at these points. Chief of Police Belloni
stated he would look into the case,
Emilio Cortesi appeared before the council and made a request that a road be opened
over the ~ill between Peck's Lots and Paradise ~alley for the accomodation the the residents of
both sections and for the convenience of school children. City engineer Marshall will grade
and roll a ~' ~ ~ street through when the rains soften the ground to a suitable extent. This
would be a continuation of Randolph Avenue. It was suggested that the street be straightened
to take the present curve out. The engineer'will ask for a right of way from the Peck Investment Co.
Engineer f~arshall reported the sewer in Bayshore Highway bpposite Block Q, and some acreage,
far out in the street,and proposed the cit~' and certain property owners,~r, bonalanza and other~
construct a sewer paralleling the curb. Ee stated the cost ~ould be about ~100. He will request
two property owners to contribute ~ sum of ~5 each,and asked the city to furnish the balance,
or about 450. This was agreeable ~o the council, and the engineer was authorized to proceed
under the method proposed.
Referring to the petition of residents of Paradise Yalley for a sidewalk from Linden Avenue
to Arden Avenue Engineer Marshall stated he and c~ty attor~ey goleberd were in contact with the
So.S.F.Land and Imp.Ce.and the Sah~Fran~isWater ~orks for the necessary rights of way and shar~
of the cost.
Building Inspector Welte submitted the plans&specifications for a permit to Frank A.Kell~~
to construct a 9 story building on lot qD,.block 141, on Baden Avenue Near Cypress Avenue, to cost
approximatel~ ~5000. Permit granted.
Engineer Marshall met~ith [~r. Kleemeyer when surveying Martin School Park for amount of
land to be transferred to the land 8o ~ in exchange for beach property. Mr. Kleemeyer thinks
there will be more need for school yard if the city keeps growing in that direction.
