The regular meeting of the city council of the City of South San Francisco was held in
CttYTHall, Monday evening, March 2,1942.
he meeting was called to order at eight o'clock P.M. by Mayor George W.Holston.
ROLL CALL.
Roll call found all members of the council present,as follows;-
CouncilmeD,V.Boido,George W.Holston, Reese Lloyd, D.W.Ratto,Rod Tibbetts.
The minutes of the previous meeting were read. There being no errors or omissions they
approved as read.
The recreation submitted a communication to the city council recommending that Mr. T.!
Farnsworth be granted relaase from his duties as Superintendent of Rexreation for a period
30 to 80 days in which to serve as co-ordinator of civilian defense, and that Mrs. Hazel
Tavenor be granted $~0 per month to take over the activities of Mr. Farnsworth. Councilma:
stated it would not be necesaa~ to release the recreation superintendent for that length ¢
time as he is working at both Jobs now, but agreed to having Mrs.Tavenor assist him at the
salary stated. This was agreeable to the councilmen.
A communication from South San Francisco Grove Np.iV1 , D~uids, requested permission
hold a dance and entertaimment featuring "DUDE MARTIN and his Round Up Gang "March V from
8;30 P.M. till 1 A.M. Permission granted.
Amgelo Monettini applied for the position of ~watchman at the city dumps, stating he
was married and a World War Veteran. Application ordered placed on file.
A petition signed by 4~ persons requested the city council change angle parking at
Armou~ & Co'm plane and the Livestock exchange and correct the disregard of the stop-sig~
at Industrial Way and East Grand Avenue. Referred to Chief of Police Belloni and City Atto]

and expreaAtons of regret, on the de~h of John Butler. Accepted.
The ~tate Board of Equalization submitted the names of John E.Penna as applying for
the licensts of Nello '~o~bArdi and Annie Bald~ at 311 Linden Avenue,tl.e same having been
ferred to ~im. There were'no objections by the council,
Chic~ Cleaners applied for a parking zone on Grand Avenue in the 200 block in front ¢
business,s~ating h~s place was ~he only one in that block having no rear entrance. Fererre¢

Pacific Gas & Electric Company requested permission to extend their
Drive,replAce ~pproximately 200' of 2" gas main in Industrial Way south of Butler Road and
their 2" g~s main in Commercial Avenue between Eucalyptus and Orange Avenues about 240'.
Referred tS councilman Tibbetts and the desired permission granted.
Answtrs were received from Comgressman John Anderson and United States Senator Downe~
the city's'letter requesting th~m to oppose legislation to tax state and municipa~sbonds,
statim~ they would give the matter every consideration when it comes before the house and
senate, respectively. Accepted.
The recreation commission submitted a list of repairs to be carried out if the city 1
a lease on'the Lazzari building~ the present recreation hall/ The estimated amount is $~12~
On motion ~egularly carried the work was ordered done, after the signing of the lease~the
rental of $20 per month to prevail.

Ercole Laz~ari for the use of the present Recreation Hall for a period of five years. The
resolution~was adopted by the votes of all the members of the city council.as follows:-

The claims having been audited by the finance committee councilman Ratto moved they
be paid. The motion was seconded by councilman Lloyd and regularly carried.
Mrs. Kidwell appeared before the council on the request of her mother,Mrs Bollazzi, and
],equested to repair a sidewalk in front of her property whic~ was broken by some machines passi~
over it. Councilman Ratto moved that the city repair the ~amage;t~The motion was seconded by
councilman Boido and regularly carried.
City engineer Marshall was instructed to make repairs to the street at Baden & Spruce
Avenues.
Cit~ S~ree~ man ~eodore Pretzer appeared before the council and requested a leave of
~sence in case he was~called , for the duration of the war. Councilman Tibbet~s moved the
request be granted. The motion was seconded by councilman Boido and regularly carried.
Antonio Antioniazzi, 46~ Grand Avenue, was granted a permit to enlarge his habitation
~t an estimated cost of ~00.
There being no further business before the board councilman Boido moved to adjourn until
Thursday, March 5,1~2, at V o'clock p.m. The motion w~s seconded by councilman Tibbetts and re~
gularly carried.
