Councilman Tibbetts introduced a resolution of the city council of t~.e City of South San Francisco vacating a resolution providing for holding a.general municipal election in the City of South San Francisco on April 1A,iSAY. City. engineer Marshall submitted a bid of the Ace Bedding Company to install blackout approved'cUrtain materiel on roller springs with sides contained in sheet metal strips to pr~ ~vent light from escaping, guaranteed , for the s~m of $9.00 per window, for the Clerk's, Fire Chief's and engineer's offices. He was instructed to order the work done. The engineer also submitted an unopened bid of the Union Paving Company to construct g~tt curb and'~idewalk on Hillside Boulevard between Linden and Arden Avenue,Paradise ValleY. He was inst~cted to secure additionml bids for the next meeting,Monday,March l$,lgA~. The regular meeting of the city council of the City of South San Francisco was held in the City Hall, Monday evening, March 16th,194~. The meeting was called to order at 8o'clock P.M. by Mayor George W.Holston. ROLL CALL. Roll call found all members of the board present, as follows;- Councilmen,V.Boido,George W.Holston, Reese Lloyd, D,W.Ratto,Rod Tibbetts. The minutes of the three previous meetings were read. There being no errors or omissions tley were approved as read. Pacific Vas & ~lectric Company applied for permission to extend their 2" gas main on both sides of Edison Avenue between andolph and Hillside Boulevard approximately VV0 feet?eferred to councilman Tibbetts and the desired permission granted. Sppenheiwer Casing Company requested permission to continue in business until the 30th of June at their present site, Division and Pine Avenue ,to enable them to locate at a place they have an option on. Councilman Ratto moved tbS;extension be denied. The motion was seconded by Councilman Lloyd. Afterc~considerable discussion, and the fact that the Enterprise Foundry was not opposed to the granting of the extension Councilman Boido moved the 90 days extension of the license be granted. Councilman Tibbetts seconded the motion,wt~h the proviso that the plant be moved in 80 days,if possible. Councilmen Eolston,Boido and Tibbetts voted for the motion and councilmen Ratto and Lloyd voted against the motion. Carried. Mrs. Anita Zucca and Mrs. Wm.Lencioni applied for positions on the election boards on April 14th,next. As the positions were already filled the applications were ordered filed. Chief of Police Belloni submitted the names of Ronald R.Bobbett,~enry Stringfield, Edwin Garrett, harry W.Renton, George W.Walker, Grant Woodruff, ~eorge G.G~mez, Robert Allen,Charles W.Hill,Arthur J.Sayers Frank A.Proyer a~A James Ward and Fred Hess for cancellation of appointment as deputy policemen in the industries. Councilman Boido moved the appointments be cancelled. The motion was seconded by councilman Tibbetts and regularly carried. City engineer Marshall received a bid of $19.89 per gross ton of scrap steel rail of 22A0~bs, less $1.00 per ton for picking up rails and $1.10 freight,from Colombia Steel Steel Co.,net to the city of $1V.Vg. It was decided to await a bid by the Bethleham Steel Co.of So.S.F.~r. Marshall having requested the2 put in Pacific ~as ~ Electric Co. requested permission to replace their 2" gas main in Baden Avenue west of Eaple Avenue a distance oflS0.feet. ~eferred to councilman Tibbetts and the desired per- mission granted. Chief of Police ~elloni submitted the names of L.A.Eron, H.W.McVary and Martin J.Lyons for for appointment as policemen to the industrial plants. Councilman Lloyd moved the appointments be confirmed. ~he motion was seconded by councilman Ratto and regularly Carried. The mSnthly reports of the Sanitary,Inspectors,Schlaam,Collina and Stein ,Librarian and City Treasurer were received. The sanitar~ inspectors reported the premises of Mrs 0.Avants, ~19~ First Lane in a most insanitary condition and recommended the hoUse be vacated,~hey were given 30 days in which to correct the many insanitary conditions. *he reports were accepted as read. A report was received from the State Board of Equalization that Emery G.Thompson and Robert JohnSmith had applied for an on sale Oeer License at Butler Avenue and the S.P.R.R.tracks,and asked if the city ~ad any objections to:~ the issuance of the same. ~here were none. Informal bids were received fo~ the construction of a sidewalk on Hillside Boulevard fron Linden Avenue to Arden Avenue. Union Paving Company submitted a bid of $210§.90 for the work, and Carrico & Gautier bid the sum of $~31,.2~ for the same. The bids will be submitted by the city engineer to the property owners for aPProval and construction of the walk, under city direction. Chick Cleaners was assured some arrangement would be made by Chief 1of Police Bellini so he could get in and out of his store building in handling his dyeing and cleaning business. E~ffering to complaints of many householders that mosquitos were infiltrating thelrhomes, the cit~ clerk was instructed Whit~nree Cities Abatementilma~gM~;~ttard,and request him to loc after thee mosquito nests in the city. Mr. Williams of the Southwood Addition appeared before the city council with respect to the proposed construction of duplex dwellings in that section,having been informed that the Planning Commission refused to aanction that sort of structure. While the Planning Commission no report in on the subject Mr. Williams stated he would not p~oceed until further notice. A delegation of young women from Southwood appeared before the city council to get acqua~ with the councilmen and other city officials with a view to securing some sort of transportatf to and from the new subdivision and South San Francisco proper, and to renew Sh.~r a request ~ free postal delivery. They were given every consideration by the city council, and invited to attend the meetings at their pleasure, and take part in any deliberations affecting the city~ welfare. ~ayor Holston introduced them to the councilmen and citizens. The sanitary Inspector Melvin Schlaam reported some unsanitary conditions at the Alphons~ Ferrari Hotel and bar,and stated he had notified the owner to make repairs at an early date.
