CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, HELD
MONDAY, JANUARY, 4,19415.
The regular meeting of the city council of the City of South San Francisco was held in t~
3ity Hall,Monday evening, January,4,1@4~.
The meeting was called to order at 8 o'cloc~ P.M. by Mayor D.W.Ratto.
ROLL CALL.
Roll call found the following councilmen present;-
Councilmen,V.Boido,George W.Holston,M.Minucciani,D.W.Ratto, Absent Councilman, Reese Lloy
The minutes of the previous meeting were read. There being no errors or omissions they we
approved as read.
A communication was received from Fire Chief Welte recommending the appointment of Ernest
Bittick to the call forces of the fire department,to occupy quarters at Fire House Nol fire s
~ouncilman Holston moved the appointment be confirmed. The motion was seconded by councilman
Minucciant and regularly carried.
A communication was received from State Engineer John H.Skeggs,relative to Project
the construction of Butler ~we~ue In cooperation with the U.S.Government,concrete curb and
~utter and acquisition e~ri~ht of way to be financed from ¼ cent gas tax funds. Communicatil
accepted and filed.
A telegram was received by City Attorney Coleberd from the War Labor Board stating that
said board will not exercise Jurisdi~tiom over city wages and salary increases designed to me.

A communication was received from the Office For Emergence~Management stating the
application for permission to acquire a new commercial MotorVe chicle had been disapproved.
No appeal was considered.
A communication was receive~ by engineer Klassen from ~ Engineer Blevans of the War Depa
merit stating the two required ~ additional manholes ln Butler Avenue would be constructed
~he government, and plans and specifications would be f~rnished the city on completion of the
~ork.
Hartford Accident and Indemnity Company furnished the city with a binder to cover the citl
policies until such time as the regular policies can be furnished. Accepted.
Chief of Police Belloni submitted the name of Albert E.Murphy for appointment as special
police~l&~e officer at the Belair Shipyard. Councilman Holston moved the appointment be
~onfirmed without remuneration from the city. The motion was seconded by councilman Minucciani
·nd regularly carried.
The monthly reports of the city judge, chief of police, building inspector,fire chief,
ooundmaster and city clerk for the month ending December ~1,1942 were received. Councilman
~inucciani moved the reports be accepted as read. The motion was seconded by councilman Holst~
and regularly carried.
Engineer Klassen reported that a storm sewer and catch basin were needed at Arden Avenue
and Hillside Boulevard. He estimated the cost at $~§0. Councilman Minmcciani moved the engine,
proceed with the work. The motion was seconded by councilman Holston.~~-*
Councilman Boido reported the De Sota car used by the fire department was in need of pain!
and requested 'that the fire chief be authorized to have the work done. So ordered.
EngineeP Klassen reported considerable money would be in the ~ cent gas tax fund. The
council discussed the question of widening Hillside BouleVard in the vicinity of Linden and
Armour Avenues. The engineer estimated the cost would be approxxmately $1~00.
~.~The matter of securing an 8 in or l0 in sewer in B~ler Avenue instead of the 6 inch as
planned by the government, engineer Klassen reported.the the ~ifference in price would be
prohibitive, and the ~ inch would be accepted.
Notice was received that solid matter has been escaping from the settling basin in the
Presto-lite and Chubbuck Lime Company into the waters of Colma creek, preventing the proper
flow of water by piling up in the creek forming a solid bank and overflowing. The city clerk
was instructed to write the both companies and request them to immediately arrange the operat:
of the settling basin to prevent this condition.
State Engineer John H.Skeggs forwarded a Memorandum in triplicate , to provide for the
expenditure of the ¼ cent gas tax fund on Streets of major importance, requesting the proper
city officials to sign the agreements, keeping one for the city files and returning two other~
~o his office, ......... A.resolution accepting the memorandum of agreement was introduced by council.

RESOLUTION N0.881.
Councilman Minucciani introduced a resolution of the city council of the City of South S~
Francisco granting Pietro Uccelli permission to lay, construct,and maintain a water pipe in
Tamarack Lane to supply water to his property~ The resolution was adopted by the votes of a2
~he members of the city council present, as~follows;-
Ayes, Councilmen, V.Boido,George W.Holston,M.Minucciani,D.W.Ratto.
Noes,Councilmen,None.

The claims having been audited by the finance 'committee councilmanHolston moved they be paid.
The motion was seconded by councilman Minucciani and regularly carried.
There being no further business before the board councilman Holston moved to,~,adjourn
until Thursday, January 8,1943,at 7;30 o'clock P.M.
