HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes 1944-06-19REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COD~NCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO,HELD MONDAY,JUNE 19,1944. The regular ~neeting of the city council of the City of South San Francisco was held in the City Hall,Monday evening, June 19th,~ .DJ44. The meeting~was called to order at 8 o'clock P.M. by *ayor Geo.W.Holston. ROLL CALL. Roll call found the following members of the council present;- Councilmen~ Victor Boido,Charles K.Elder, Ivan M.Hays, George W.Holston, " ~Absent M.Minucciani , , · Copies of the minutes of the previous meeting having been forwarded to all councilmen, Mayor Holston asked if any errors or omissions were noted. Hearing none the Mayor declared the minutes adopted as submitted. A communication was received from the South S.F. Planning Commission advising the City Council to instruct the City Building Inspector to see that garages built on lots where new t are constructed,conform to the general structure of the home for which it is built,thereby keeping up the good appearance of the present 'buildings. Hayer Holston declared there'is no set statute governing a regulation of the sort requested, but intimated Inspector Welt. woul~ require that garages be made to conform with the house structure~ and the matter was referred to him~ Chief of Police Belloni ~equested the council to cancel the appointments of the followiz named plant guards;- Palma Sal~ . ~evelle Brunet,Mary L.Lewis,Frank Soute,and ~erbert Belles. Councilman Hsys-moved the appointments be cancelled-as requested· The motion was seconded by councilman Elder and regularly carried. A card of ~hanks was received from the R.R.Sharke y family acknowledging the receipt of the city's floral tribute on the death of Mr. Sharkey. Accepted. Notice was ~received from the State Noard of Equalization of the application of Emmet Piwald for a distilled spirits license and Kanellos & Zubokus for an ON-Sale Beer license. T2 were no objections to the issuance of the licenses. Chief of Police Belloni submitted the na~es of Sylva Ruth Anderson, Edna Barbara Atha, Albert P.Sullivan,W.P.Broach and May A~azel Humphries for appointment as guards at the Weste~ Pipe & Steel Wo~ks. Councilman Elder moved the appointments be confirmed, without remunera~ from the city. The motion was seconded by councilman Hays and regularly carried. A petition~containing 180 names was Submitted by Toney Molinu, requeating~he~c~y~to grant permission to construct and operate a grocery store on the Southwest corner of Orange and Commercial Avenues. As thim section of the city is zoned for residential purposes the case was referred to the Planning Commission~ The report~of the librarian for the month of May,l~*~ was received. Councilman Elder mo~ the report be accepted as read. The motion was seconded by councilman Hays and regularly car~ ORDINANCE N0.235. Ordinance No.235, an ardinance regulating the conduct of minors on public streets and ~ under the age of 1V years, otc,and repealing ordinanCe 280, had its second reading and was adopted as an ordinance of the City of South San Francisco by the following vote;- Ayes, Councilmen,Victor Boido, Charles K.Elder, Ivan M.Hays, George W.Holston. Noes, Councilman,None. ABsent, Councilman M.Minucciani. Attest Daniel McSweemey City Clerk. Recorded in Book of Ordinances, Volume 2, at page 3S1. Engineer Waters of the firm of Culligan & Conway, builders of South City Village,asked if the city would sanction their proceeding with~the work of construction pending the final adoption of the plans and specifications.Y~' !~ ~ ~ The request was granted on condition the engineer take the responsibility if there were any deviation in the plans~ not suitable the city council. Engineer Larwood explained further that the sewer construction would be under strict supervision of the city's engineer~ He stated a bond for this character of wo~ would be required in %h~ future. Mr. Otto DeitSche appeared before the council in the matter of street lights and the ®®na~e~&®a-®$- paving of Hillside Boulevard between Limden Avenue Extension and Arden Aven~ Councilman Elder of the street commission explained the city is anmiouS to improve the boulevard at the place mentioned, has a prospect that t~e county will help,becausse it was a county bond road, and that the P.G,& E. will endeavor to grant the city's request for additional lights for the places badly needed. Fire Chief Welte announced that that the city may now remove the reflectors from the c~ lamps. Councilman Elder moved the city clerk be instructed t~ write the Pacific Gas & Electric Company and request them to remove the reflectors from'the poles. The motion was seconded ~ycouncilman BoiAo and regularly carried. The bids offered COunty Tax Collector McArthur of $200 each for Lots lC& 18 & W.~S' of Lot~ ~2.24.26,Blk,12-and$400 for N,E, 50'~of Lot.s 20.~2.2~.26~Blk~i12,Town O£~Baden,submitted'~to tl June lB,l~44,were accepted,and the clerk instructe~ to so notify the County Tax Collector.
