~'te regular meeting of the city council of the City of South San Francisco was held in the
.]ity Hall, ~,~onday, July 16,1945.
The meeting was called to orde~ at 8 o'clock P.~,t. by kayor Goerge W.Holston.
ROLL CALL.
Roll call found the following members of the city council present,as follows;-
Councilmen,Victor ~oido, C~arles K.Eldeb, George W.holston, i~inucciani.
Absent, councilman, Ivan ~.Ha~s.
Copies of the minutes of the previous meeting havim~~ been forwarded to all members of the
aity council, ~iayor ~Lolston asked if any one noticed an>? errors or omissions. )-earing none he ~
declared the ninutes adopted as s~bmitted to the various N~embers.
' ~embers of the ¥ity Employee's ~etirement System appeared before the council for a ~'earing.
The.7 had come to secure co-operation of t?e city officials in obtaining the retirement s~stem feb
5he city employees of the city Of South San Francisco.
%he~? asked that the 100>~ plan for the Jit~- of South ~Lan ~rancisco's co-operation for the
purpose of the plan, and the O0>~years time in whi'ch to pa~ up.
Councilman Elder moved the two facilities be granted. ~he motion was seconded by councilman
~oido and re~ularl~ carried. '
Councilman ~'~[inucciani moved that participation be ~sde effective as of September 6,1945,
~o preclude t~e possibilit~,; of the State's adoption of a"- ,1&wet age law. '~he motion was seconded by
councilman Elder and regularly carried.
13o~ncilHan ~ im:cciani moved the City Clerk be empowered to sign tt.e request to the State
for ballotts, and oti er materials necessary to hold the election. %he motto, was seconded by ·
councilman ~oido and regularl> carried.
Emelio Cortesi applied for a permit to construct a Duplex bu%ldfng at 453 Grand ;:venue~ ~t~"s
cost of .;;6000. Permit granted.
~.J.Rodondi ap~!ied for a permit to remove a house from 4~$ grand Avenue to lots 18 and 19,
3lock9, Town. of Baden, north of C street. Granted.
. Vir~:~il Ullery tendered ~is resignation as a city fireman with thee 8it~ of South San FranCisco.
Councilman Elder moved the resif~nation be accepted. The motion was seconded b} councilman ~inucciani
and regularly carried.
A co~unication was received from I~[cGuire a Rester, pipe line contractors, stating that thais
Letter would advise the Cit} of South San i~rancisco that they would hold open their bid to the City
of South San t~rancfsco for a period of thirty (30) days from the date of tLis letter. ~[~e letter
was dated Juls: lO,1945.Accepted.

A communication signed by Charles Timpany and George D.Williams, asked the city why it did-~
not have the 88uth San Fran~'isco Sign Compan}'s sign removed or repaired, in view or the fact that
so man~~ persons petitioned for the removal or repair of tt:e sign. Yayor George W.~olston stated
he would attend to the matter right away,and ordered the City Clerk to ao]~'~r~unicate with the owners
zo attend t0 the matter.
I~r. R.N.}.:Jurphy, a nj&bt clerk in LouSe belloni's office, tendered his resignation to the ~ity
Council. ~eferred to Chief of Police Oelloni.
~re Chief 'JJelte submitted the name of ~{r. Aario Se.reni for app6intment to the Call Porce~ of
~he FireDepartment. Councilman Elder moved that the you~g man be confirmed~ wtth~ut romuncratt~n

f. communication was receive~ from the Labor Rerald, solicitin~ a subscription .from the paper

Louis ~elloni submitted the name of Frank Solon kinshall, 110 Grand Ave, for appointment
as guard at the ¥~estern Pipe a Steel Jo., Councilman Elder mo~.,ed he be appointed w~thout
remuneration fro~ this city. %he motion was seconded .:~Councilman Doido and regularly carried.
~ The monthl}~ reports of the Lanitar~~ ~nspector and the r~L:blic librarian were received for the
~ont~ of June, 1945~ Accepted.

Southwood, and ~sked when the? ~i~'ht expect some. ~r~ E~lston explained t?at tlose things

Lot ~, ~Olock 79, came in for considerable s'peculation as to the water overflowing
the sidewalks'in the vicinity, aud fillln~· up ~el!ars.
Engineer Larwood exolained t~at a sewer line between two lots m~8~$-,® ~uid be built
adjoi.ning Lot o~, and made a sort.of temp~rary~or even permanent outlet for the waters
comin.g down from the hills in winter.
Dut t~is was not satisfactory to t~e cit~,, council, and other means must be devised
to check the waters. ?~r. Larwood's estimation of t)e cost to make a perfect job of the
Water' overflow was ~800.
TRere bein~ no f~rther business ~efore tLe board, councilman Elder moved to adjourn
