asking ':ke cit~: to decide as to where ti ey want the overhead crossing, between California Ivenu~
and Pine Avenue, ~ .

Chief of Police Delloni submitted the names of ~atrick g.Eoapile and ~,ax Rose, as guards at the
~estern P~pe ~ Steel Co's plant. Councilman Elder 'moved the appointments be confirmed, without
remuneration from'the cit~. The motion was seconded by councilman boido and regularly carried.
A repl~ was received by l~.stor deorge L'.kolston from Df.Charles C.d~ans,relative to kee[~ing
~iel gchlaam on the job in this district. Pr.Cans stated he had not contemplated an~ changes in the
near future, and -:~.as pleased to know Nir.~.'~Schta~ ~as::held[~.'in~ sued high ~steem in this community.
~lhe State Employees" ketfrement S~stem ~forwarded an ordinance to be adopted by the cit~: in
the event the retirement act passes the voters on election ds.y,>~riday, August 31,1945. [:ccepted.
A long communication was received from the Cbas Berg Compan~:,relative to a Locke 1riplex power
lawn mower. Theyahtahed :tLe:~owers were hard to Becure st. present,and would advise us when the
supply becomes greater. Filed.
Mr. ~f~'illiam Scstena, who had take~ out a license ~or s b~r~er s]:op at the Grand Hotel,
returned the license and asked for the mone~ back, havin~' onll used it since Ju~ 13. 'ihe City
council refosed to ret~rn the amount.
A communication was 'received from l~lr. Joe i-~less, stating t~.st at t~e last meeting of his board
Jul~ 05 1945, a motion was made and carried, recommending t~kst tke citl~ purchase two new Apex Stsel
Tennis }.~ets to be used. ia Oran~e Avenue Park. Also t!~at the better of the old nets be repaired ~nd
put ~p on the Linden Avenue ~laygroond. On motion .by councilman Elder , seconded by councilman Boido
and regularl~~ carried, ~¥r. Pless was authorized to p~::rchase the equipment.
},/ir. Ed.P'.Kauffmann, city treasurer, stated he bad not received ~is monthly sa]ar~ of ~o5. and ~
asked that s new check be issued to hi~,snd the banks notified to stop osyme, nt on the original.
Councilran Elder moved that the city clerk issoe a new check to t~r. KauE~ann, and notify tke banks
~$~.R to stop payment on the ori~[:.inal, Lfo.OO08 . lhe motion was seconded by Councilman Doido
and re.:ulsrt~ carried.

Mrs. ]].O~ttenfield, Personnel Clerk, submitted'to the council asking that some. clarification be given
