The regular meeting of the City Council of the City of South San Francisco, was held in
the City Hall, Monday evening, October 1, 1945.
The meeting was called to order at 8 o'clock P.M. b2 Mayor ~eorge W.Holston.
Roll Call.
Roll call found the following members of the board present, as follows;-
Councilmen, Victor Boido, Cherles K.Elder, George W.Holston,MeMinucciani.
The city clerk, having forwarded c~pies of the minutes of the two previous mcetingsto
all members of the city council, Mayor HolstOn asked if any one noticed an2 errors or omissions.
There were none.
Fire chief Welts submitted the name of P.B.Cha~ll for appointment to the ,Call Forces
of the Pii~e Department. Councilman Elder moved the appointment be confirmed~
~he motiou was seconded by councilman Min~cciani and regularly carried.
Notice was received from the State Board of Equalizatio~ of the application of OTTELLO MA1
Fredi & Rudolph D.Santini for an OFF sale Bert & Wine license,transferred to them from Paul &
Pietro Susa, 36~. Grand Avenue..There were no onJections b2 t~.e cit~' council/
A communication was received from B-em&rd S.Cohn of Bernard McCaffry Post 35§,The America~
Legion,suggesting that a streamer be strung across th~ intersection of Grand Avenue and Linden
Avenue,displaying'the words "WELCOME HOME,A JOB NELL DoNE",6~6~ds to that effect. The matter
was referred to councinman Mtnucciani.
Vigil Rlngue, 54V Baden Avenue, wrote the city councilmen on bahalf of the Democratic Cou:
Central Committee, requesting ~he use of the council chambers on Tuesday, OctoOer ~3,1945,at
8 q'clock P.M. Councilman. Elder moved the request be granted. The motion was seconded by
=ouncilman Boido, and regularly capried.
Gordon Rowe Company applied for the installation of another clerk in the city hall,to checl
~_~er, tt.e business of the city,at a salary of $V5 per month,dating back to July 1,1945. Councilm
---~ stated he city was now in good shape,and no more clerks were needed, and the com,municatio~
~rdered filed.
A letter written to Ma,'or GeorgeW.Holston by Councilman Ivan M.Hays, announced his resigns.

of returning to his duties here,on time, but the condition of his health made his retUrti imposs!
and he concluded to offer his resignation.
Councilman Minucciani stated he had no~ been informed of eS Mr. Hayes resignation, and
deemed the matter strange. Mr.Holston stated his .resignation had been in the city hall,alii
week/ Councilman Minucciani stated he would be compelled to vote against his successor,on
that account.
Councilman Elder moved the resignation of ~r. Ivan M . Hays,as councilman,be accepted,
with the thanks of the city.~ :or his services. The motion was seconded by councilman Boido and
regularly carried.
Councilman l~A$e~ then nominated Mr.G.A.Anderson, for the position of City Councilman.
Councilman Minucciani stated there should be a resolution offered, which tlc city agree~ to.
~.A eoeanunication was received from the.Board of S~chool Trustees of the city,asking that
a sidewalk be built on the eastside of ~ Orange Av~ue, from Railroad Avenue to the Street
car traek~. Referred to the city's Works engineer to contact Ateh~ase- Atkinson & Co., about
the ~. ~ ·
A communication from~ AL Baldi requested permission to construct a building on Lot 28,Block
12~, in the a~unt of $6000,1eaving plans on file in the office of the Building Inspector.
Councilman Minu~ciani moved the permission be granted. The motion was seconded by councilman Bo.
and regularly carried.
~Rayal Supply Compan~ applied for permission to make alterations to a store building
loch_ed at 209 Linden Avenue, at a cost of $1000. Councilman Elder moved the request b$ granted,
The motion was seconded by councilman Minucciani and regularly carried.
The monthly reports of the Shief of ~olice,City Judge,Fire Chief,Building Inspector and
City Clerk, for the month ending September 30,1945, were submitted and accepted.
Councilman Minucciani moved that the bids for the construction of streets in Brentwood
be opened. The 'motion was seconded by councilman Elder and regularly carried.

lst,day of October, 1945,publicly open, examine and declare all sealed proposals or bids for
doing all the improvement described in Resolution of Intention No.lO43,which resolution of
Intention was adopte~ by s~id 6ity Council on the ~Ynd day of August,1945, to which resolution
of intention reference is hereby made for a description ofsa~ work and the assessment district
in said resolution of intention described~
Notice is hereby given that serial b~nds to represent unpaid assessments and to bear inter~
at the rate of five per cent (5~. per annum, will be issued the~under in the manner provided
~2 Division 10 of the Streets and Highways Code, in the improvement Bond Act of 1915, the last
installment of which bonds will ma~ure ~$urteen (14) years from the second day of July,next
succeeding ten (10) months from their date.
Except as herei~b~te~ided,all of the hereinbefore mentioned work shall be done in
pursuance of an act of-Yhe Legislature of t?fe S~ate of, California dseignated as ~Improvement Ac~
of lgll~,approved~April V.1911,and the amendments thereto.

Councilman Elder moved the bids for the air Compressor be opened. The motion was seconded
councilman Boido and reuglarly carried.

The councilmen were not decided on a selection,referred to matter to Mr. sChweining and
,Laid the matter over until the next meeting of the council.
RESOLUTION NO.105S.
Councilman Elder introduced a resolution of the city council of the 6it2 cf South San
Francisco appointing Mr. G.A.Anderson a City Ceuncilman. The resolution read;-

''City Of South San Francisco and said resignation has been accepted b2 said City Council;
Resolved b~ the Cit~ Council of the City of South San Francisco that G.A.Anderson be, and
he hereby is appointed a member of said City Council to fill the vacancy caused b2 the resi£nati~n

Councilman Minucciani had asked to be excused from voting.
Mr. Anderson was swon in and took his seat. as councilman. He was well received, especially
~y the. contingent from Southwood,in'which territory he lives.
The city clerk was requested to write tke Acme Brewing Company and request them to remove t
~he sign en the hill above the city. ~o.ordered.
