PLACE: TIME: ROLL CALL: CALL TO ORDER: MINUTES: Council Chambers, City Hall, South San Francisco. 8:00 o'clock p.m. Present: Councilmen Geo. W. Hol~on, Chas. K. Elder, Leo Ferko, Adolph Sani, Emilio Cortesi. Mayor ~%rko called the meeting to order at 8:00 oSclock p.m. The City Clerk having forwarded copy of the minutes of the previous meeting to all members of the citE council, Mayor Ferko asked if any errors or omissions were noted. There being none the minutes were approved as submitted. CORRESPONDENCE San Mateo County Fair Assn. addressed a communication to the city council requesting permission to install fiesta street banners on the main street. On motion duly made, secon~d and carried permission was granted. Communication was received from Mr. J. C. Cherry, Supt. South~San Fran- cisco School District, with reference to proposed bridge from Magnolia · Ave. To Mayfair, and paved sidewalk on east side of Orange Ave. This matter was referred to the Works Engineer. Communication was received from the City Park Improvement Club submitt- ing the name of Laurence Dilley as a member of the Recreation Commission. Same was ordered filed for future reference. Governor Earl Warren addressed a communication to Mayor ~erko asking for assistance in a atate wide drive for the collection and disposition of iron and steel scrap. Same was laid over for the present. Bulletin was received from the War Dept. setting forth location of pro- posed borings for new bay bridge. Same was ordered filed. GRAND AVE. CROSSING: ARCHITECT ROWE: DANCE PERMIT: Copy of letter from the Division of.Highway, addressed to the Works Engineer, referring to siE~ing of Project Statement authorizing expend- iture of $18,000. from 1/4~ Gas Tax, was read. Works Engineer Estes was instructed to advise the Division of Highways that arrangements were being made fort he raising of thisamount. Works Engineer submitted two communications which he had received from Architect Wm. Rowe setting forth certain data required in connection with plans for recreation buildings afl,fire h~Use. Mr. Estes stated he had conferred with Mr.. Howe and the necessary data would be ~ur~tehed so that drwwings would be completed by the early part of November. Court Infant of Prague No. 1389, Catholic D~ughters of America, address- ed a communication to the city council requesting permision to hold a dance at Fraternal Hall October 19th. On motion duly made, seconded and carried permission was granted. REZONING OF GRAND AVE. FOR SERVICE STATION: Communication was received from the Planning Commission recommending against the rezoning of the northerly side of Mission Road near the junction of Grand Ave. for the purpose of establishing a service station until such time as an over-all study of zoning had been completed. Further, suggesting that if the council did wish to rezone in this section that only a small parcel be rezoned at this time. Councilm~n Elder moved that the necessary steps be taken to rezone only that portion of property to allow for the establishment of a gasoline station near the Junction of Mission Road and Grand Ave. Councilman Cortesi seconded the motion and same was carriA. BRASS FOUNDRY: Oscar Tyroler addressed a communication to the city council applying for perElssion to convert the building known as Chelini's Garage into a brass and aluminum foundry. On motion duly made, seconded and carried same was referred to the planning commission. CIGAR STAND: Lasaro Avelar requested permission to keep his cigar store open till 2:00 a.m. so that the Black & White Taxi Co. could arrange for tele- phone calls at this location. Motion was duly made, seconded and c~rried that same be referred to the Chief of Police. BOARD OF EQUAL~ IZATION NOTICES: The following Notification of License Applications were received from the Board of Equalization: On Sale Beer - Gus Harris, 202 Grand Ave. Off Sale Beer & Wine - Frederick & John Benetti and Bart Tuccori, 239 E1 Camino Real. Same were ordered filed. MONTHLY REPORTS: CLAIMS: BUSINESS LICENSE: Reports of the Fire Dept., Building Inspector, Dept. of Public Health, Police Dept., City Judge and Poundkeeper for the month of August were submitted and were approved as read. .~ Claims in the amount of $5416.66 were presented to the finance comm~ittee for approval. On motion duly made, seconded and regularly carried the claims~ ~e~e ordered paid. Application for license to peddle fruit and vegetables was received from Pete A. Roccasalva, 832 Linden Ave., veteran of World War ~I. On motion duly made, seconded and carried the license was granted. Application for license to engage in business of l~quor store at 301 Grand Ave. was received from Leo Cortesi. On motion duly made, seconded GRAND AVE. CURUSIS LICENSE APPLICATION: RESOLUTION #1139: TAX RATE 1946-47 RESOLUTIOi~'~ll40: DEED - STOR~ SEWER: ORDINANCE #251 TAXICABS: PARKING METERS: STREET SIGNS: ADJOURNMENT SEPT. 5th: Application for license to engage in business of fruits and vegetables was received from Gus Curusis, 132 Bruno St., Daly City. As there was some question as to whether this business was wholesale or retail, motion was made, seconded and carried that the application be re~erred to the Chief of Police. Councilman Sani introduced a resolution of the City of South San Francisco Fixing the Tax Rate for fiscal year 1948,194V. The resolut- ion was adopted by the unanimous vote of all the members of the city council. Councilman Cortesi introduced a resolution of the City of South San Francisco accepting deed wherein Jim Laricchia conveys to the City easement for construction of a storm sewer. The resolution was adopted by the unanimous vote of all members of the city council. Councilman Sani moved that an ordinance to regulate the rates, rules and practices of taxicabs be read by title only and considered as the first reading of the ordinance. Councilman Elder seconded the motion and same was regularly carried. The City Clerk then read title of Ordinance No. 251 - An ordinance to regulate the rates, rules and practices of taxicabs, lous6s and rent cars operating in the city of South San Francisco. Councilma~mo~ed that the CityAttorney draw up an ordinance covering the installation of parking meters. Councilman Elder seconded the motion and same was regularly carried. Councilman Etde~ moved that a survey be made to cover the installation of parking meters. Councilman Sani seconded the motion and same was regularly carried. Councilman Elder moved that the Street Dept. be authorized to pur- chase and install 100 street signs. Councilman Cortesi seconded the motion and same was regularly carried. Mr. A. Rocca stated he had attended a picnic at the City Park and found it an ideal place. He suggested that the street to the park needed some repair, and that additional barbecue pits be installed. On motion of Councilman Elder, seconded by councilman Holston, and regularly carried, the city council adjourned to Thursday, Sept. 5th, at V:00 p.m.~ Time of ~-dJournment: 9:00 p.m. Respectfully submitted Approve~ _~ ~
