Present: Councilmen ~G. W. Holston, Chas. K. Elder, Eeo Ferko,
Adolp~ Sani, Emilio Cortesi
Mayor Ferko called the meeting to order at 8:00 p.m.
The City Clerk having forwarded copy of the minutes of the previous
meeting to all members of the City ~ouncil, Mayor Ferko asked if any
errors or 'omissions were noted. There being none, the minutes were
approved as submitted.
SOUTH CITY VILLAGE: Conway and Culligan made application for rezoning of Lots 72 and 73,
South City Village from'residentf-l to commercial classification. Motion
was duly made, seconded and carried that same be referred to Planning
Con,mis si on.
CALIF01t~ IA STATE
DISASTER COUNCIL:
Communication was received from California State Disaster Council with
reference to disaster service workers. Same was tabled for future
reference.
FLAGS:
Societa Lombarda addressed a communication to the City Co~qil advising
they had 95 flags .for~2~le at a cost of $50.00. Council/~Hi moved,
seconded by Councll/~di~tesi that the flags be pttnchased. Motion was
regularly carri ed.
FEDRRAL W0 PG[S
AGENCY $15,000:
Communication was received from Federal Works Agency enclosing agreement
to be signed in connection with ap21tcation for $15,000 for sewer facili-
ties. Same was referred to Works Engineer.
FEDERAL WORKS
AGENCY $12, 900:
HOUSING AUTHORITY
IN LIEU OF TAXES:
A check for $6450.00 was received from the Federal ~'~'orks Agency under
application No. 4-P-526~. Same was accepted.
Communication was received from Housing Authgrity of the City of South
San Francisco enclosing checks amounting to $9438.20 covering payment in
lieu of taxes for 1948-47. Same was accepted and filed.
MISSION ROAD SURVEY:Works ~ngineer requested authority to make survey of Mission Road from
Grand Ave. to junction of E1 Casino Real. Motion was duly made, seconded
and carried that the
m~'9orks Engineer be granted authority to make necessary
survey.
CITY MAP TRACINGS:
Works Engineer addressed a communication to the City Council asking
that som~ action be taken re~arding obtaining original tracings from
Charles . Broughton and R. ~. Klassen as no answer was received to City
Clerk's letters of November 23rd.
City Clerk was instructed to write a follow-up letter to these two
parties.
MONTHLY REPORTS:
Reports of the Chief of Police, City Judge, Fire ~hief, Building Inspector
Health Dept., and Poundkeeper for the month of December were submitted.
On motion duly made, seconded and Carried same were approved as submitted.
CLAIMS:
Claims in the amount of $11,494.21 were presented to the Finance Committee
for approval. On motion duly made, seconded and carried the claims
were ordered paid.
REQUEST FOR
ACQUISITION AID:
RESOLUTION #1169:
Oommunication was received from '~illiam H. Howe, architect, submitting
four copies of request for Acquisition Aid for acquiring fire site.
Councilman Elder introduced a resolution of the City of South San Francisc
submitting request to the Post Wa~ Public Works Review Board. The
resolution was adopted by the unanimous vote of all members of the City
Council.
INCREASE IN
FIRE INSURANCE:
Councilman Sani moved to rescind motion carried at the meeting of December
30th with reference to fire insurance carried by the City. Motion was
seconded by Councilman Elder and regul~arly carried. Councilman Elder
moved, seconded by Councilman Sani that the fire insurance of the City
property be increased to $225,000. and coverage combined in one p~licy.
~he motion was regularly carried.
ORDINANCE #260:
An ordinance requiring a permit for transportation over any public street
or highway, of earth excavated from any land in the City of South San
Francisco, was presented. Same had its first reading.
PLAN~ lNG SURVEY:
Hahn, Campbell and Asso.ciates submitted a revised proposal covering
zoning study and master plans of streets and highway, work to cost
$4800~00. City Attorney was instructed to draw up contract for submission
at adjourned meeting of the City Council.
~UT IER ROAD:
Superintendent of Streets reported that Healy and Tibbe~s Construction
Company planned to make repairs to Butler Road as soon as their bull-
dozer was in condition. ~ieport was ordered filed.
ORANGE AVE. BALL
PARK REPAIRS:
Superintendent of Streets submitted estimated cost of materials required
to repair fence and grandstand at Orange Ave. Ball Park. Same amounted
to $570.85. Councilman Cortesi moved, seconde~ by Councilman Holston
that the work be started as soon as possi01e., l~otion was regularly
carried.

Representative from City Park Improvement ~lub addressed the Council stating that he would
like to see some action on recreation buildings. He was advised that as soon as necessary
funds were provided work would proceed.
Health Inspector Schalmm reported sewer conditions on Railroad Ave. would have to be
corrected. Mayor Ferko advised him that the matter would be checked into by the Works
Engine er.
Mr. Carlyle addressed the Council asking the status of the playgrounds at Southwood. He
was of the opinion these playgrounds should be provided at once. He was advised that no
pipe was obtainable at the present time, therefore, work could not be done.
ADJOURNMENT: Councilman Sani moved, seconded by Councilman Holston that the meeting adjourn
until ~ionday January 13th at 7:00 p.m. 'rime of adjournment 9:10 p.m.
