Present: G.W. Holston, Chas. K. Elder, Leo Ferko, Adolph Sani,
Emilio Cortesi
Mayor Ferko called the meeting to order at 8:10 p.m.
The City Clerk having forwarded copy of the minutes of the previous
meeting to all members of the City Council, Mayor Ferko asked if any
errors or omissions were noted. There being none, the minutes were
approved as submitted.
SURPLUS PROPERTY
WAR ASSETS ADM.
Communication was received from War. Assets Administration with reference
to 24.9 acres of land as a site for the construction of a sewage disposal
plant. The matter was laid over until a special meeting could be held
with the City of San Bruno.
SECOND LANE
BIDS:
BURI BURI #1:
Attorney Ooleberd advised that there was an error in arranging details
on the Second Lane improvement work, and bids should be returned to
bidders. Councilman Sani moved, seconded by Councilman Cortesi that
all bids on Second Lane improvement work be ~eturned unopened to the
bidders. Motion was regularly carried.
Works Engineer addressed a communication to the City Coun~l asking that
no work on the Burl Buri Subdivision. be accepted unless plans as turned
over to the City show completed work as built, and that any changes be
submitted to the City Council for approval. On motion duly made,
seconded and regularly carried recommendation of the Works Engineer
was accepted.
BURI BURI #1:
Communication was received from the Works Engineer enclosing copy of a
letter from the Union Paving Co. to Mr.~Estes refuting various state-
ments made with reference to inspection of the work in Burl Buri #1.
Letter was filed.
EMPIRE ADV. COc
Empire Advertising. Co. requested permission to build a bulletin on
their land a~dto stack lumber behind same. On motion duly made, seconded
and carried permit was granted.
E~PLOYEES'HOLIDAYS: City of South San Fran~sco Employees' Association addressed a
communication to the City Council asking that the holiday question
with reference to Policemen and Firemen be clarified. This matter was
laid over to the next meeting.
FEDERAL WORKS
AGENCY-APPLICATION
4-P-5VO:
Communication was received from the Federal Works Agency requesting
additional information with reference to Joint sewer agreement. This
matter was referred to the Works Engineer.
Copy of letter from Wright L. Felt, Division Engineer, addressed to
Mr. Harry Elston of the Herald in San Bruno, enclosing press release
with reference to application for $15,000.00, was received. Same was
accepted and filed.
Superintendent of Streets submitted an estimate of cost of a sprinkler
system at Orange Avenue Park amounting to $1483.36. As this work should
be submitted to bids, the matter was referred to the City ~ttorney.~
Mayor Ferko submitted an annual report of the City Council. As same
was to be published in "The Enterprise", Councilman Sa~i moved,
seconded by Councilman Elder that the report be accepted an~ filed~
Motion was regularly carried.
SIMON MOTOR CO.:
Simon Motor Company submitted a request for a permit to build a
corrugated aluminum building at °ayshore Blvd. and Randolph Ave. On
motion duly made, seconded and carried this request was referred to
the Planning Commission.
Chief of Police Belloni advised that Ernest Cortez had commenced his
sim months probationary period as Police Officer January 15th. Motion
was duly made, seconded and carried that the appointment of Ernest
Cortez be confirmed.
Y.M.I. & C.D.A.
~ir. V. Robinson requeste~ permission on behalf of the Boosters Club to
use Council Chambers Januar~ 23rd at 8:00 p.m. Motion was duly made,
seconded and carried that permission be granted.
Y.M.I. and C.D.A. requested permission to hold a dance at the PTaternal
Hall Saturday, January 2~th. Motion was duly made, seconded and carried
that permission be granted.
MONTHLY REPORTS:
Reports of the South San FrancisCo Free ~ublic Library, City Treasurer,
and the City Clerk for the month of December were submitted. On
motion duly made, seconded and carried same were approved as submitted.
CLAIMS:.
Claims in the amount of ~$V,226.89 were presented to the Finance
Committee for approval. On motion duly made, seconded and carried the
claims were ordered paid.

motion duly made, seconded and carried licenses were granted.

Cletus Esser submitted an. application for Auto Body Fender aud Paint
Shop at 336 - 4th Lane. Motion was duly made, seconded and carried
that license be granted, subject to approval of the Fire Chief.
Planning Commission addressed a co~unication to the City Council
recommending change in the.classification of Lot 72 and VS, South City
Village, but felt this change should be held up pending report of the
Zoning Engineer. Motion was duly made, seconded and carried that ~he
recommendation of the Planning Commission be accepted subject to
planning survey.
Councilman Sani introduced a resolution that the City enter into an
agreement with Hahn, Campbell and Associates to prepare and furnish to
the City the Land Use Plan in map form ho serve as a guide for adoption
of a new zoning ordinance, the cost of same to be $4800.00. The
resolution was adopted by the unanimous vote of all members of the
City Council.
Motion was duly made, seconded and regularly carried that the Mayor
and City Clerk be authorized to execute a contract between the City
and Hahn, Campbell arid Associates.
Councilman Elder introduced a resolution that the City enter into an
agreement with Mark Larwood wherein he agrees to furnish photostatic
prints of each appraisal sheet of the Office of the Assessor of the
County of S-~ Mateo pertaining to the City of South San Fraucisco.
Cost of this work not to exceed $5,000.00. The resoldtl~mwas adopted~
by the unanimous vote of all members of the City Council.
Motion was duly made, seconded and carried that the Mayor and City
Clerk be authorized to execute a contract between the City and Mark Larwood
Councilman Cortesi introduced a resolution accepting plans and specifi-
cations for the construction of sidewalk on the east side of West
Orange Avenue. The resolution was adopted by the. unanimous vote of
all members of the City Council.
Councilman Holston introduced a resolution accepting the offer of the
Gabriel Construction Company to construct a sidewalk on the east side
of West Orange Ave. The resolution was adopted by the unanimous vote
of all members of the City Council.
With reference to the request of ~he United Packing. Co. for right of
way through present Corporation Yard, Attorney Coleberd suggested that
the Fire Chief, Superintendent of Streets, and the Works Engineer go
into thisematter together to find out what land is to be used and
designation thereof.
Councilman Holston reported that he had visited ~For.es~ Home Auto Court
with Chief of Police Belloni and after quite a talk with Mr. Mulkey
the situation remained as at. present. This matter was laid over for
further discussion at a later date. ~
Three ~tds were submitted to supply gasoline to the City. Councilman
Elder moved, seconded by Councilman Sani that the Gasoline Bids be
opened. The motion was regularly carried.

Councilman Cortesi moved, seconded by Councilman Elder that the bid of
the Union Oil Compauy~to supply gasoline to the City be accepted. Motimu
was regularly carried.
On motion of Councilman Elder,. seconded by Councilman Sani and regularly
carried the meeting was adjourned to 4:15 p.m. January 27th.

Councilman Cortesi moved, seconded by Councilman Elder that the bid of

On motion of Councilman Elder, seconded by Councilman Sant and regularly
