REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SOUTH 'SAN FRANCISCO, HELD MAY 19, 19&7.

Present: Cguncilmen G. 9. Holston, .Leo Ferko, Adoph ~a~i, Emilio Cortesi.
Absent: Councilman Chas. K. Elder.
The City Clerk hav%~g forwarded copy of t~e ~nutes of the previous, meeting to all members
of the city c~il, Mayor Ferko asked if any errors or omissions were noted. There being
none they were. approved as submitted.
Communication was ~eceived from the Planning Commission with reference to Works Engineer' s
estimate on Linden Avenue improvement. They advised they had no Jurisdiction in the matter
and recommended the proposed improvement be initiated by the property owners. This
communication was filed.
Communication was received from .the Planning Commission ~rec~n~ling the approval of ~th-
wood Commercial D. istrict Map subject to the widening of .the .parking area street from 28 to
30 .feet. It wa~ regalarly, meved, seconded, and carried that the recommendation of the
Planning Commission be accepted.
Communication was received from the Planning Commission recommending that Brentwood Map No.3
be approved, providing a. lot was left open for compaction with the.Avalon Tract, and with
other provisions as set forth on the map. It was regularly moved, seconded and carried that
the recommendation of the. Planning Commission be accepted,
Mr. P. R. Blythe of the E. B. Motel addressed a communication to .the City Council requesting
that the catch basin at the corner of Randolph Avenue and Bayshore Highway be raised. This
matter was referred t° the Works Engineer.
Communication was received from the Pack's ~ubdivision Improvement Club asking that the
South San Francisco sign be replaced at the foot of Randolph Avenue. This matter was referred
to the Superintendent of.Streets for an estimate of cost.
Communication was received from Poundmaster A. MQnetini submitting his resignation effective
May31st. Motion was duly made, seconded and carried that the resignation of A. Monetini
as poundmaster be accepted, effective May 31st.
On motion of Councilman Cortesi, seconded by ~ouncilman Sani, and regularly carried, John
Mangini was appointed Humane Officer effective June 1st, his salary to be set at a later 4ate.
Communication was received from Mr. A. E. Mahlstedt of the Recreation Commission submitting
his resignation from the Recreation Commission, effective at once. Motion was duly made,
seconded and carried that the resignation of Mr. Mahlstedt be Accepted and that the City
Dlerk write, a letter commending him for his work in connection wi~h the Recreation Commissi~.
Communication was received fro~ the City Park Improvement Club suggesting the appointment
of Mr. Fred Bedker to the Recreation Commission. Communication was ordered filed.
Communication was received from the Santa Crist~ Society asking if it would be possible to
buy or lease a portion of the property behind the City ~ark. The Works Engineer was
instructed to obtain the boundary lines of the property owned by the city so that this matter
could be given proper consideration.
Communication was received from Buri-Buri Homes, Inc. asking the city to intercede with the
postmaster of South San Francisco so that ~t. least one delivery of mail per day would be
made to this area. Motion was duly made, seconded and aarried that the City Clerk write to
the postmaster asking'that thio matter be given attention.
Communication was received from Buri Buri Homes, Inc. asking that the bus servic'e be extended
to include Buri-Buri, Motion was duly made, seconded and carried that the City Clerk write
to the South San Francisco Transit Company asking what plans were in view for bus service
to Buri-Buri.
Mr. P. R. Blythe submitted set of plans for development of Peck's Heights. Same were
referred tothe Planning Com~ssion.
Communication was received from the Booster's Club asking permission to hold Carnival Circus
July 2nd .to July 6th inclusive. Motion was duly made, seconded and carried that permission
be granted on payment of the necessary fees.
Reports for the month of April. were submitted by the Library Board and'City Clerk. Motion was
duly made, seconded and carr~&d that same be accepted and filed.
Claims in the amount of$6570~O2'were presented to the Finance Committee for approval. ~t~o~im
duly made, seconded and carried the claims were ordered paid.
Ordinance No. 265,rezoning Lindenville area, came up for the second reading. Motion was duly
made, seconded and carried that this ordinance be read by title only. City Clerk then read
title of ordinance No. 265 - An Ordinance Amend~nE Ordinance No. 137 Entitled: "An Ordinance
Establishingtmdustrial, BuSiness, and Residential Distri'cts or Zones in The City of South
San'Francisco and Expressly Repealing Ordinance No. 117 of The City of South San Francisco",
Passe~ and Adopted May~, 1925. This ordinance was adopted by the unanimous vote of all
,City Council members present.
Petition held over from last meeting protesting against used car lot at Randolph AvenUe was
taken up. After some-discussion the Buildin~ Inspector was instructed to have a police
officer accompany him t~ the grounds and ascertain Just what kind of building was proposed.

Mayor Ferko asked if there were any protests on the unpaid assesments on Brentwood No. 1.
There being none, Councilman Sani introduced a resolution authorizing the issuance of bonds
in the amount of $71,633.57 to cover unpaid assesmentsson Brentwood No. 1. This resolution
was adopted by the unanimous vote of all Members 6T.the City Council present.
Motion was duly made, seconded and carried .that bonds covering the Brentwood No. 1 'Unpa~'d
Assesments be printed by the Enterprise in complete form.
Health officer Sch~amm brought up the matter of mosquitoeabatement in this city. This matter
was laid over for further consideratioa~
The matte= of the breaking up of city streets by various utilities ~was brought up. As
ordinances covering the deposit of bond for this kind of work were out of date, motion was
duly made, seconded and carried that the Works Engineer, in conjunction with the ~ity Attorne
prepare a new' ordinance ~ to cover the digging Up of streets.
On motion of Councilman~.Sani, seconded by Councilman Holston, and regularly carried the
meeting was adjourned to Saturday morning, May.24th.at 9:30 A.M.
