Holsto6, Leo Ferkq,.Adolph Sani. Absent: Councilmen Chas. K. Elder and Emilio Corte~i Meeting was called to order by MayoV Ferko. Reading of the mimltes of the previous meetings was dispensed with. Councilman Holston moved, seconded by Co,nucilman Sani that bids for the street improve- ment work in Rancho Buri Burl be opened. The motion was regularly carried. The following bids were submitted: L..C. Smith California Constructors, Inc. & Webber & McCann R. A. Farish Fay Improvement Co. $ 92,706.65 8d,618.35 106,&67.75 89,585.20 Mr. Simpson, of Buri Buri Homes, was present and Mayor Ferko'asked him his opinion on the bids. Mr. Simpson stated his company was having a meeting Tuesday snd he would like to have the awarding of the contract postponed until the matter could be brought before the meeting. Councilman Holston moved, segonded by Counci~nan Sani, that action on the awarding of the contract be delayed until Council meeting of August 25th at ~ p.m. Motion was regularly carried. A communication and map were received from the American Homes Development Co. with reference to proposed changes in the South,vocal Commercial Tract. S~e were referred to the plamning commission for recommendation. Communication from the Southwood Women's Club with reference to liquor store in that area, which was laid over from previous meetin~was taken up. Attorney Coleberd stated there was nothing in the law to prevent a liquor store in this area. Thc City Clerk , ~as instructed to so advise the Southwood Women's Club; also that construction of a new fire station on the west Side of the highway was considered but s~me would be subject to the aporoval of the Fire Underwriters. Co~mnunication was received from the City of San Bruno espressin~ appreciation ~or the manner in which complaint with refereoce to the~'~alifornia ~',~re Cloth Corporation. had been handled. Co~nunication ~as ordered filed. Superintendent of Streets advised that the condition at $he Shop Towel Supply Co~ with reference to sewer had been corrected. Corrected bill in th~ amount of $300.OO was received from the Three Cities Moss, itc Abatement District. ~otion was duly made, seconded and carried, that the bill be paid. Communication was received from Mrs. = ~velyn Collins requestin~ an additional 60 day sick leave. Communication was received from Superintendeht of Streets reco~ending the acceptance of Secon~ Lane improvements. Same was ordered f~led. Notic~ from Building I~spector Rozzi directe~ to the Department of Recreation, with .reference to the condition of ~tairways in th'~ recreation building, 312 Maple Avenue, was read. Motion was duly made, seconded and regularly carried, that the Superin$en- dent of Streets have the stairway of this buildin~ repaired. Communication was received from Superintendent of Streets callin? attention to the worn out condition of tbs clocks in thz City Hall and reco~endlng that the movements be changed to the automatic reset type. He had o%tained bid fr~ the Standard Electric Time Co.. for ~536, and a bid of $121 from the Pacheco Electric ~o. for the necessary -~_ring in connection ~'d_th the change-over. ~otion was duly m~de, seconded ~nd carried that the'Superintendent of Streets ~ 'instructed to proceed '~M. th the repairing of the City clocks. Co~aunication was received from th~ Brentwood Club c~optaining of the difficulty in crossing E1 C~ni~o Real during the morning rush hour and asked tbat a policeman be stationed at the entrance to Brentwo~d Subdivision durin~ this hour. As it was not possib!~ at this time to hav~ a policeman placed in th~s area it 'was suEgested that the matter be taken up ~th Col. Skeggs ang see if automatic Signals could not be in- stalled. Councilman Sani moved, seconded by CounciLman ~[o!ston that a communication be addressed to Col. Skeggs asking that automatic signals be ~nsta]led at the Brent- wood crossing and also at Buri Burl crossing. This communication to come from the 7~rks Engineer with a letter from th, City Council and copies of letters from Brentwood Club and Burl Buri Club. Communication was received from the Burl BuriImpro~ement Club asking the City Council to i~tercede ~th the Post Office Department to obtsi~ mail de!ivory service in the Buri Buri Subdivision. Mr. Popelka, of the Bur~ Buri Improvement Club, was present and stated this matter had been taken care of satisfactorily. The communication was, therefore, filed. State Board of Equalization adgised that on sale beer license had be~s~': issu,d to Edward Kirby, 202 Grand Aven~e~ Sam~ was ordered filed. Application was received from Frances Shotwell for a pool room st 213 Grand Avenue. This application was referred to the Chief of Police. Application was received from Fred Lobel to enFage in business of household furniture at 720 Linden Avenue. Motion was duly mad~ s,~ond..~ and carried that permit be granted. Councilman Bani introduced a resolution tbst ordinance introduced b~fore the City Council on the llth day of Aufust l~e on t~e table. This resolution ~,~as adopted by the unanimous vote of all memb,rs of the City Council present. Councilman Sani introduced a resolution adoptin~ budget and appr~vin~ memorandum of agreement and expenditure of I/&¢ Gas ~a× allocat,d for streets of ~ajor importance. Superintendent of Streets was instructed to contact the ?~rks Engineer and investJgate th~ cond ~on complained of. ~esidents of ~[ayfair Vi.l!ase brought up th~ question of fhe closing of stores on Sunday. As this matter was governed entirely by ordinance they were advised that any request for change in the closing on Sundays should come from the merchants or by petition of the people.
