ADJOURNED MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SOUTH SAN FRANOISCO HELD THURSDAY, SEPT. 25, 19&7

Present: Conncilmen G. W. Holston, Chas. K. Elder, Adolph Sani, Emilio Cortesi
Absent: MaYer Leo Ferko
On motion of Councilman Elde=, seconded by Councilman Sani and regularly carried,
Councilman Holston acted as .Mayor during the absence of Mayor Ferko.
Acting Mayor Holston called the meeting to o~der at 7:30 p.m.
Reading of the minutes of the previous meeting was dispensed with.
Councilman Elder moved., seconded by Councilman Sani that the returns of the special,
municipal electi6n, held September 16, 19A7, be canvassed. Motion was regularly carried.
The returns from the various precincts were presented bythe City Clerk and were
examined by the Council and found in order. ·
Councilman~Sani moved, 'seconded by C0uncilm~n Cortesi, that the absentee ballots be
opened and canvassed. Ac~ing Mayor Holston appointed Councilmen Elder, Sani and Cortesi
to examine and tally the absentee ballots. The tally sheets showed the following
results: Proposition ~1, Yes 13,No.1; Proposition #2, Yes lA, No O; Proposition #3,
Yes 13, No O. A short recess was declared to complete the election returns.
On reConvening Councilman Sani introduced a resolution canvassing returns and declaring
the results of the special municipal bond election held in the City of South San
Francisco on September 16, lgA7. Councilman Sani moved, seconded by Councilman Cortesi
that the resolution be adopted. Roll Call: Ayes, Holston, Elder, Sani and Cortesi.

Actin~Mayor Holston asked if there were any protests against the improvement work in
Brentwood #3.. There being none, Councilman Elder introduced a resolution ordering
the improvement work in Brentwood #3. This resolution was adopted by the unanimous
vote of all members of the City Council present.
CommUnication was received fromthe ~ivision of Highways asking that the City Council
withholdacceptance of revised map of the Southwood commercial Tract until same is
corrected to show the area to be acquired by the State. M~. Williams, of the G. W.
Williams Company, was' present and voiced his disapproval of the Division of Highways
request, and stated he would like the Council to accept the map as submitted. After
a great deal of discussion this matter was laid over for further consideration.
Councilman Elder introduced a resolution deqlaring the intention of the City to vacate
portions of the 's~reets shown upon that certain map entitled: "Southwood Commercial
Tract". This resolution was adopted by the unanimous vote of all members of the City
Council present.
A lebter from the City of San Bruno with reference to contribution toward defense
against rate increase of the Pacific Telephone & T~legraph Co.. was again brought up.
The City Clerk was instructed to ascertain whether the City of San Bruno, also the
Manufacturers Association, had contributed anything toward this source. The matter
would be taken up again at the next meeting.
James J. Morrell submitted application to engage in the business of the distribution
of Juvenile furniture at 911 Bayshore Highway. Motion was duly made, seconded and
carried that permit be granted.
Mr. H. Nystrom submitted a request for permission to erect an apartment house on
Commercial Avenue east of Oak Avenue. Notion was duly made, seconded and carried that
this.matter be 'held in abeyance.until the adoption of the Master Planning Ordinance.
City Attorney J. W. Coleberd requested permission to attend the National Institute of
Municipal Officers, September 26th to October 3rd. Motion was dulymade, seconded and
regularly carried that permission be granted.
On motion of Councilman Sani, seconded by-Councilman Elder, and regularly carried the
meeting was adJourned~onday, October 6th at.8:O0 p.m.
