BRA~NS REGULAR MEETING OF THE'CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO HELD MONDAY, N.OVEMBER 3, 1947. Council Chambers, City Hall 8:00 o'clock p.m. Present: Councilmen ~. W. Holston, C~a~. K. Elder, Leo Ferko, Adolph Sani, Emilio Cortesi. The meeting was. called to order by Mayor Ferko at 8:00 p~m. The City Clerk having forwarded copy of the minutes of the previous meeting to all members of the City Council, Mayor Ferko asked if any omissions or errors were noted. There being none the minutes were approved as submitted. The matter of changing location. .of the proposed' recreational building from Elm Court to. the Civic Center was brought up. As this had been discussed at a meeting between the Council and the Commission on October 28th, the City Clerk was instructed to advise the Commission that the Council was not in favor of the changing of the site of this building. Bid was received from Mr. A. LeBlanc of Burlingame for the' installation of signs at Mission Road for the sum of $105 and E1 .Camino Real at Orange Avenue for the sum of $190. As this was the lowest bid for the construction of these signs, motion was duly made, seconded and regularly carried that the Commissioner of Streets be empowered to proceed with the installation of these signs for the total sum of $295. The City Attorney reported that the closing of certain streets in Southwood was only in the preliminary stages and final action would be at the discretion of the Council. He stated he would contact Mr. Williams and endeavor to have him come to an under- standing with the State Division of Highways in this matter. Application was received from Howard Hyde to engage in the business of Candy Kitchen at ~03~ Linden Avenue. ~otion was duly made, seconded, and carried that the permit be granted subject to the approval of the Health Department. Communication was received from Laura M. Hawkins protesting against the charge for weed abatement on her property. This matter was referred to the Superintendent of Streets. City Clerk was instructed to advise Mrs. Hawkins that taxes must be paid and claim made for refund which would be taken up in due course. Communication was received from Arthur E. Anderson, Insurance Broker, requesting that his name be added to the list of hsurance Brokers entitled to a share of the City's insurance business. Councilman Holston moved, seconded by Councilman Elder that his request be granted. Motion was r.e .~.ly carri~dj Communication was received from the 'Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Company asking permission to install conduits .from a point crossing the new highway along Lux Avenue. Motion was duly made, seconded and carried that permission be granted subject to the approv, al of the Works Engineer and 'Superintendent of Streets. South San Francisco Grove ~171 Druids requested permission to hold a dance November 26th at the American Legion Hall from 9 p.m. to 1 a~.m. Motion was duly made, seconded and .regularly cgrried that same be granted. Com,~_,,!cation was received from Louis Atello requesting permission to convert building at 1052-5~ ~ Grand Avenue to a .store. City Clerk was instructed to advise Mr. Aiello that this property .was not ~oned for business at this time. A petition signed by 22 property owners of City Park was submitted requesting that the Southern Pacific Co. be asked to clean up the property in back of Circle Court. liotion was duly made, seconded and regularly carried that the Southern Pacific Co. be requested to clean up this property. Communication was received from the Boosters Club inviting all members to be present at their nex~ meeting of November ?th. ~ame was ordered filed. Communications were received from the County of S~ll..r~ateo and Sheriff James J. McGrath advising that the County of San Marco desired to enter int~o an agreement with the City to help th~ Poundmaster of San Ma~eo County during the present rabies quarantine... Councilman Elder moved, ~econded by Councilman Sani that the City go along with the Count~ in this matter. Motion was regularly carried. Communication was received from the Brentwood Co. advising they had made arrangements to light 'two Brentwood signs with neon lights at a cost of $500, and that the Q R S Neon Co. would maintain and service said lights at a cost of $7 per month, and asked if the city w~uld pay the c~st of mainte~ance~and cmrrent. Councilman Elder moved, seconded by Councilman Sani that the signs at Brentwood be maintained as recommended by the Brentwood Co. Communication: was received from the Superintendent of Streets outlining the existing conditions in:,~the Buri Buri ~1 Subdivision.. City Clerk was instructed to write the Buri Buri Homes protesting against conditions in Burl Buri ~1. The City Attorney stated he would contact their offices in this matter. Communication was received from Superintendent of~ Streets advising that the acceptance of sewer between Magnol .ia and Spruce Avenues was pending on payment of engineering fees and printing. This communication was ordered filed. Coammnication was received from the Fire Chief advising that First Assistant Chief A. Brauns had returned tO duty as of November 1st after an absence since September 2~th due to' illness. Sa~e was ordered filed. Same was ordered filed. MONTHLY REPORTS: Reports for the month of October were submitted by the Building Inspector, Fire Chief, Department of Public Health and .Welfare and Humane Officer. Motion was duly made, seconded and regularly carried that same be approved as submitted. Claims in the amount of $8'175.56 were presented to the Finance Committee for approval. On motion duly made, seconded and regularly carried the claims as submitted were ordered paid. ORDINANCE #268 TRAILERS: Councilman Sani moved, seconded by CouncLlman Elder, that Ordinance ~268 be read by title only and considered as the 'second reading. City Clerk then read title of ordinancb: "An Ordinance Regulating the use of trailers or camp cars in the City of South San Francisco". This ordinance was adopted by the unanimous vote of all members of the City Council. BURI BUR1 HOMES - E~GINEERING C03T PROTEST: . The Works Engineer stated report had been submitted to the Buri Buri Homes as requested in their letter of October 2Otb. Mayar Ferko asked that report be submitted to the Council. RESOLUTION ~1275 BOAT PIER: Councilman Cortesi introduced a resolution providing for acquiring the use of a small boat pier by the City. This resolution was adopted bY the unanimous vote of all members of the City Council. A~BULANCE' SERVICE: Councilman Cortesi sZated the County ambulance is stationed in South San Francisco only from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Suggested that we request 2~ hours ~service. Council- man Sani moved, seconded by Councilman Holston that a letter be written to the County of San Mateo, with a copy to Mr. Petersen, requesting that the County ambulance be stationed in South San Francisco 2~ hours a day. Motion was regularly carried. CITY ATTORNEY LEAVE OF ABSENCE: ADJ OURNME~: City Attorney Coleberd requested permission to leave the State from November 13th to November 27th. Motion was duly made, seconded and earried that permission be granted.
