Elder, Mayor Leo Ferko On motion of Councilman Sani, seconded by Councilm~n Cortesi and regularly carried, Councilman Holston acted as'Mayor during the absence of Mayor Ferko. · The meeting was called to order by ActingMayor Holston at 8:O0 p.m. The City Clerk having forwarded copy of the'minuteslof the previous meeting to all m~,_bers of the Cit~Council, Acting Mayor Holston asked if any omissions or e~rors were noted. The~e being none the minutes were approved as submitted. Councilman Sani,moved, seconded by Councilman Cortesi that bids on sale of municipal improvement bonds be opened. Motion was reEularl[ carried. Bids were received from the following firms: Weeden& Company American Trust Company LawsOn, Lev~& Williams Kaise~ & Company Bank of America City Attorney Coleberd stated it would take a little time to figure out the lowest bidder therefore, awarding ~f bonds to the lowest bidder was lai~ over until Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m. Santo Cristo Society submitted a sketch showing the building plans for building to be located on Oak Avenue. Same was referred to the Planning Commlssion. Communication was received from Pietro Uccelli requesting action on his petition for business district in the area on Grahd Avenue near Chestnut Avenue. This matter was referred to the Planning Commission. Communication was received from the City of San Bruno in answer to City's letter of January 10th with reference to ambulance service £or the north end of the County. Same was laid over until something was h~ard from Daly City along these lines. Communication was received from M. Wilms attaching map showing l~yout of proposed sub- division in Parcel 1, Zone E. Same was referred to the Planning Commission. Communication was received from Swift & Co.' encl~si4g sketch showing necessary changes in Southern Pacific ~ight-of-way and new proposed location of their loading dock. This matter was referred to the City ~ttorney and Works Engineer. Communication was received from the Housing Authority advising that Mr. Fred J. Lautze's~ commission will expire March 31, 19~8 and asked that action be taken on his reappointment. This matter was laid over until the Mayor was pzesent. Comm'un~cation was received from the Planning Commission stating they would like to have a cabinet in the City Hall in which to keep zoning maps and copies of ordinances. It was regularly moved, seconded an~ c4r~ied that the Planning Commission be authorized to make the necessary arrangements for cabinet in the City Hall. CommunicatiOns were receive~ from the Boosters Club and San Mmteo County Area Council, Boy Scouts of America, asking that the Mayor proclaim Boy Scout Week February 6th to 12th. Motion was duly made, seconded and carried that proclamation be issued by the May~r declaring BoyScout Week February 6th to 12th. Communication was received signed by five Street Department employees protesting the holding of Civi~ Service examinations at this time. Same was referred to the Personnel Board. Communication was received from Fire Chief Welte advising that A. Questoni and C. Luchini had serv~d~one year in the Fire Department as of February 1st and were elegible for the second year scale of $260 a month. Motion was duly~ade, seconded and carried that the recommendation of Fire Chief Welte be accepted and the Personnel Board be so notified. Communication was received from Superintendent of Streets Schweining listing the men absent during the month of January. Same was ordered filed. Communication was received from Superintendent of Streets Schweining enclosing letter from Buri Buri Homes, Inc. which authorized the Central Electric Company to proceed with the electric wiring work in the Buri Buri Subdivision. Same was ordered filed. Communication was received from the Recreation Commission setting forth their desire in the matter of proposed transfer of City property for school property. This communication was laid over until Tuesday evening. Evelyn C. Curry, manager of E. B. Motel, addressed a letter to Councilman Cortesi complaining of conditions of the sidewalks in Pecks Lots. Same was referred to the Superintendent of Streets. Mario Volonte submitted a request for permission to erect a concrete block building on Pine Avenue. Motion was duly made, seconded andcarried that permission be granted providing the building meets with all building code regulations. Communication was received from the League of California Cities advising of dinner meeting to be held Thursday, February 19, 19~8 at Dinah's ~hack. This was held over until the next regular meeting. Cmmmunication was received from the Southern Pacific Co. enclosing lease covering shelter shed which the City had installed on their right-of-way near South San Francisco Junction. This matter was referred to the City Attorney. CHAMBER OF COMMERCE Communications were received from the C_hamber of Commerce referring to the matters of SPRUCE & LIND~2~ AVES:improving Linden Avenue and extending Spruce Avenue. Same were laid over until Tuesday evening. BURI BURI WATER LINE: Communication was received from Buri Buri Homes, InC. advising that the San Francisco ~?ater Co. was completing a survey for a water line along th6 Tine of E1 Camino Real and that same would cause damage to their inst~ll~tions in this area.~ They asked that the City Council take measures to delay final permit for this work until proper study of the problem is made. This matter was referred to the Works Engineer for immediate action. MONTHLY REPORTS ~ Reports for the month of January were submitted by Chief of Police~. City Judge, Building Inspector, Fire Chief, Department of Public Health & Welfare, and Humane Officer. Motion was duly made, seconded and carried that same be approved as submitted. Claims in the amount of $12,910.78 were presented to the Finance Committee for approval. On motion duly made, seconded and carried all claims as submitted were ordered paid. RESOLUTION #1~03 W. C. WHIPPLE: A resolution was Antroduced by Councilman Sani lamenting the passing of Police Officer W. C. %~ipple and extending s~pathy to the members of his family. This resolution was adopted by the unanimous vote of all members of the City Council present. RESOLUTION #130~ ACCEPTANCE: Councilman Cortesi introduced g resolution approving diagram for the improvement work described in Resolution of Intention No. 1220. This resolution was adopted by the unanimous vote of all members of the City Council present. PuT. SOLUTION~1305 P.T.&T. 00. AGREE- MENT - ~URI BURI: Councilman Sani introduced a resolution authorizing the Mayor to sign agreement between the Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Co. and the City for the use of channel connecting privately owned signal equipment to the Buri' Bhri Subdivision for the Fire Department. This resolution was adopted by the uaani~ous vote of all members of the City Council present. RESOLUTION #1306 PAR~NAY TERRACE: Councilman Cortesi introduced a resolution accepting deed from Victor Feudale and Phyllis Feudale covering portions of Lot 13, Block 2, Parkway Terrace. This resolution was adopted by the unanimous vote of all members of the City Council present. DOLLAR AVENUE IMPROVEMENT: With reference to the proposed improvement of Dollar Avenue, Tanforan Avenue and Huntington Avenue East, Andrew Rocca was sworn as a witness by the City Clerk. Mr. Rocca testified in substance that he is Manager of the South San Francisco Branch of Bank of America National and Trust Savings Association and that he is familiar with the land described in the district designated in the resolution and that he has information as to the value of the land, without the improvements thereon. He stated that in his opinion, after considering the nature of'the improvements proposed to be constructed upon. those streets, the estimated cost of the improvements would not exceed one-half of the value of the land described in the district proposed to be benefitted by the improve- ments, and that the cost of the improvement in front of any parcel of the land in that district would not exceed one-hal~ of the value of such parcel of land. RE$OLUT ION #1307: Councilman Sani introduced a resolution approving work to be done on Dollar Avenue, Tanforan Avenue and Hun~gton Avenue. This resolution was adopted by the uaanimous vote of all members of the City Council present. DRAINAGE - SOUTHWOOD:Mrs. Hernan brought up the matter of water standing at the intersection of West Orange Avenue and E1 Camino Real. The Superintendent of Streets was instructed to check into this matter.
