The meetin~ was called to order by ~ayor Ferko at 8 o'clock p.m.
The City Clerk having forwarded copy of the minutes of the previous meeting to all
members of the City Council, ~ayor Ferko asked if there were any omissions or
errors. There being none the minutes were approved as submitted.
SHRUBBERY PICK-UP:
The matter of shrubbery and grass pick-up was brought up. The Southwood ~omen's
Cl~ addressed a communication to the City Council asking that the city continue
this servLce. After considerable discussion the matter was again laid over.
MOSQUITO ABATEmeNT:
Health Officer Schlamm advised the City Council that there were not sufficient
names on the moss:itc abatement petition. The matter was laid over.

BEACH:
Councilman Sani introduced a resolution accepting deed from South San Francisco Land
Co. for right-of-way for purpose of constructing and maintaining street.- This
resolution was adopted by the unan~nous vote of all members of the Council present.

PROP~TY:
Works Engineer ~ndlett advised .the City Council that improvements on the ~ccelli
property were in,he City of South San Francisco. ;~otion was duly made, seconded and
regularly carried that the sewer line be extended to the city limits.

The matter of clean-up of the Baden Branch was again laid over.

Works Engineer Randlett advised the City Council he was unable to arrange a meeting
with the San Francisco Water Co. regarding possibili~y of obtaining an easement for
street.

The matter of the American Home~ Annexation was laid over pending report from the
Planning Commission.

PLAYGROUND:
Cyclone Fence Co. submitted a proposal to instal], either a 5' or 6' fence around
S~uthwood Playground, as follows:
gl lineal feet safeguard fence with 1-5' gate

Convert existing 110' of 5' fence to 6' fence

An ordinance of the City of South San Francisco licensing mechanical and amusement
devices which had its first reading &~ly 6, 19&~ was laid on the table by motion
duly made, seconded and regularly carried.
SIGN PLAYGROUND -
"DRIVE SLOW":
A co~mmication was received from Charlie Maretti asking the City Council to install
2 safety signs in the vicinity of the Orange Avenue Park reading "Playg, ound Drive
Slow". The matter was referred to the Suoerintendent of Streets.

Acknowledgements of floral offerings were received from the families'of the late

RED CROSS DISASTER
C~,5fITTEE:
A communication was received from the American Red Cross Disaster Committee asking
cooperation in the disaster preparedness plans. Ordered filed.
AGREEMENT OF MAIN- The State Highway Division submibted an agreement of ~aintenance for State Highways
TENANCE - ST. HI~-~'AYS: in South San Francisco. The matter was laid over.
FIRE - UNITED AIR LINES -A communication was received from the United Air Lines thanking the South San Francisc
FONTANA'S: Fire Department for the quick and efficient response to the call on June 30th. N~yor
Ferko also commended the Fire Department for the work done at the Fontana fire,
stating also that it was gratifying to see~the assistance received from neighboring
cities. A motion was made, seconded and regularly carried that the Council go on
record thanking the other cities for their assistance. The Fire Chief was instructed
to furnish the names of the cities assisting.

RETIRemeNT:
Superintendent'of Streets $ch~veining reco~2ended to ~he City Council that the ~ity
Clerk communicate with the State ~tirement Board regarding J. O. Galli's disability
retirement. ~otion was duly made, seconded and regularly carried authorizdng the
City Clerk to write the State Retirement Board; also to inquire as to ~at was being
done on the survey to reduce the retirement age.

THEATRE SIGN:
FRANCHISE PERJ.~ITS:
A co~.vnunication was received from the San Francisco Drive-in Theatre Corp. asking
pe~ssion to erect a neon sign on the Atkinson Construction property. The matter was
laid over for more information on the size of sign.
A communication was received from the Division of Highways asking that the Divisdon
of Highways be notifded if and ~hen the city enters into a franchise agreement with
a Utility Co. Ordered filed.
HEALY TIBBITTS -
FIRE PER~IT:
A cor~aunication was received from Healy Tibbitts Co. asking per~zssion to burn
construction debris. 4~otion was duly made~ seconded and regularly carried that
permission be granted provided that burning is done under the supervision of the
Fire Chief.
LIBI~RY STEPS: A communication was received from the Library Board reco~nending the installation of

Co~nunications were received from the First Baptist Church and St. Pa,~'s Methodist
Ch~ch stating they were in favor of the curfew. City Attorney 6oleberd advised
that the ordinance is still in effect. The letters were ordered filed.
A communication was received from the Texas Company asking permission to remove 1-550
gal. tank and replace smue with .2-2500 gallon tanks at the Texaco Service Station.
~otion was duly made, seconded and regularly carried granting permission.
Chief of Police Belloni submitted the name of Nels E. Nelson as being appointed
Special Officer at Armour & Co. July 1Lth, 1948. Motion was duly made, seconded and
regularly carried, that the appointment be confirmed and that he receive no remuneration
from the city.
The'Hartford Steam Boiler Inspection and Insurance Co. submitted Reports of Inspection
on equipment in the City Hall and Library Building. Accepted and ordered filed.
The Findings of Fact before the Industrial Accident Commission in the case of
William ~ipple showed that his death was not caused by injury alleged in complaint.
Ordered filed.
A communication was received from the Housing Authority advising that the Authority
agreed to continue paying the City $25.00 per month for street cleaning at Lindenvilte
for the year 19A8-~9. Councilm~n Cortesi said he thought this amount was insufficient.
The communication was tabled.
Applications for Business License were received from Bill Poore's Service, S. ~. corner
of Orange and E1 Camino Real and E1 Rancho Grande Restaurant, 20~ Lux Avenue. Eotion
was duly made, seconded and regularly carried that these two licenses be granted.
An application was received from Val Harconi to engage in the business of amusement~
devices. The application was laid over until the ordinance is ready.
An application was received from H. P. Decbant to sell fruits and vegetables from
a truck on the E1 Camino Real. Motion was duly made, seconded and regularly carried
denying this application.
The reports for the month of June'were receiyed from the City Judge and Chief of
Police. Hotion was duly made, seconded and regularly carrieU approving same as
submitted.
laxms in the amount of $11'879.08 were presented to the Finance Com~mittee for
approval. On motion duly made, seconded and carried same were ordered paid.
An Ordinance amending Zoning Ordinance No. 269 was read for the first time.
Councilman Sani introduced a resolution whereby the City enter into an agreement with
Charles E. Randlett, civil engineer, for preparation of plans, specifications and
estimates for the c~nstruction of a pre-treatment plant. Thds resolution was adopted
by the unanimous vote of all members of the Council present.
The raatter Of the C~and Avenue F~tension playground was discussed. Since the ground
is under cultivation nothing could be done until the cr.ops are harvested.
The matter of removing the weeds along Colma Creek and the possibility of covering
Cblma Creek was discussed but no action taken.
On motion by Councilman Sani, seconded by Councilman Elder and regularly carried the
meeting was adjourned to Wednesday, July 21, 19A8 at 9:00 o'clock p.m.
