ADJOURNED REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO HELD WEDneSDAY, JULY 21, 19~+8.
Pursuant to adjournment, the City Council met a~ ~ o'clock p.m., on ?~ednesday,
July 21, 19A8
There were present th~ f~llowing Councilmen: ~ictor Boido, Leo Ferko, Adolph Sani,
and Emilio Cortesi. Councilman Charles K. Elder was absent. By reason of the
absence of City Clerk Daniel J. Hyland and Deputy City Clerk Elizabeth Ottenfield,
Councilman Adolph Sani was appointed clef pro rem.
The meeting was called to order by Leo Ferko, ~ayor..
An ordinance entitled: "An ordinance of the City of South San Francisco licensing
mechanical amusement devices" was introduced and given its first reading.
A propose~ agreement for maintenance of state highway in the City of South San
Francisco, m~mitted to the City Council of said city by the Division of Highways,
District IV, was read. Thereupon a resolution entitled: "Resolution of the City
Council of the City of ~outh San Francisco approving agreement for maintenance of
state highway in the City of South San Francisco" was read and, upon roll call, was
adopted by the unanimous vote of the Councilmen present.
S. A. Netherlin, who resides at No. 36 ~Randolph Aven~e in the City of South San
Francisco, spoke in opposition to the above mentioned ordinance. Amon~ other things
he called ~he mechanical amusement devices mentioned in the ordinance gambling
machines and said that they i5vited gambling.
The City Attorq~y.reported a meeting of Mrs. Jessie B. Estes, Executrix of the last
will and testament of John E. Estes~ deceased, Prosper Wolf, her attorney, Frank Davis,
formerly Works Engineer of the city, and J. W. Coleberd, City Attorney, with reference
to maps and documents prepared during the time when said John E. Estes was Works
Eng~neer of said city. Mr. James Peck 'was present at th9 latter ~art of t~e conference.
Mr. Davis stated that he had delivered to Henry L. Schw~ining, Superintendent of Streets
of the city~ a number of maps and doc~nents, for which he exhibited the receipts of
Mr. Schweining. At this conference it was understood that Mr. Peck should examine the
maps and doc~nents delivered to 5~r. Sch%~ining, the receipts for the same, and determine
what, if any maps and.documents, which had been prepared in the office of said John E.
Estes, had not been delivered to the city. Both~ ~rs. Estes and Prosper Wolf, her
attorney, agreed that all maps and documents prepared through the office of John E.
Estes, as '~rks Engineer, at the expense of the city, should be delivered to the city..
No further business appearing, it was moved by Councilmmn Sani and seconded by Council-
man Boido that the City Council adjourn to Monday, July 26, 19J~8, at L:30 o'clock p.m.
The motion was carried by t?:e unanimous vote of the councilmen present.
