The meeting was called to order by Mayor Ferko at 8:00 p.m.
The City Clerk having forwarded copy of the minutes of the meetings held February 28th
and March ?th to all members of the City Council, Mayor Ferko asked if any errors or
omissions were bored. There being none the minutes were approved as oubmi%ted.
Motion was duly made, seconded and carried that bids for the improvement of Qhestnut
Avenue be opened. The following bids were submitted:

RESOLUTION NO. 13+23+
CHESTNUT AVE~TE:
L. C. Smith Co. being the lowest bidder, Councilman Cortesi introduced a resolution
awarding the contract for the construction of street improvements on Chestnut Avenue
between Commercial Avenue and E1 Camino Real to L. C. Smith Co. This resolution was
adopted by the unanimous vote of all members of the City Council.

CHAIN CO. SEW~:
Communication was received from the Round California Chain Co. requesting a sewage
outlet off their property on the Bay~hore Highway. This matter was referred to the
Works Engineer.
P~%SONNEL BOARD -
SQUELLATI:
Communication was received from the Personnel Board advising that the name of Charles
B. Squellati had been removed from the Police Department eligible list due to his not
meeting the medical' requirements. This communication was ordered filed.
RECREATION COMMISSION -
SUPT. OF PARES AND
PEAYGROUND~:
Communication was received from the Recreation Commission setting forth~re~uirements
· and salary range for the position of Superintendent of Par~s and Playgrounds recommend-
ing that same be approved. Motion was duly made, seconded and carried that the
recommendations of the R~crea~knCommtesion be approved.
CUSTODIAN OF RECREA-
TION FACILITIES:
Cosmmnication was received from the Recreation Commission recommending that the
position of Custodian of Recreation Facilities be established on a Civil Service basis
and setting forth qualifications. This matter was laid over for two weeks for further
consideration.

MARTIN SCHOOL PLAY-
GROUND EQUI~T:
Communication was received from the Recreation Commission recommending that sidewalks
be installed ~t the Elm Court recreation building and that the flower boxes be filled
as soon as possible. Motion was duly made, seconded and carried that the recommenda-
tion of the Recreation Commission be accepted.
Communication'was received from the Recreation Commission recommending that the city~
owned playground equipment which was moved from the old city playground near Martin
School be installed in the North Grand Avenue playground and that similar equipment
be placed on order for installation in the new Hillside Recreation Building. Motion was
duly made, seconded and carried that the recommendation of the Recreation Commission be
accepted.

WALKER - LEAVE OF
ABSENCE:
Co_m~,~,_nication was received from the Planning Commission requesting the City Council to
apply to the State Highway Co,,,fssion for a temporary permit of encroachment to E1
Camino Real, at Chestnut Avenue. Motion was duly made, seconded and carried that the
recommendation of the Planning Commission be accepted.
Communication was received from the Planning Oommission recommending the ~ranting of
leave of absence of five months to Secretary J. G. Walker and advising that Victor
Robinson would act as temporary secretary. Motion was duly made, seconded and carried
that the recommendation of the Planning Commission be accepted.
DUBUQUE AVENUE:
Communication was received from the Plamhing Commission recommending the acceptance
from the Dubuque Packing Co. of their offer of $1,000.00 a~d that the street in front
of the Dubuque Packing Co. property be named Dubuque Avenue. Motion was duly made, ~
seconded and carried that the recommendation ef the Planning Commission be accepted.
City Attorney Coleberd was instructed to draw up the necessary resolution.

· The Planning Commission recommended the ~anti~ of a Variance Permit to Grant S. Morris
for the erection of a duplex on lots 23, and 25, Block 95. Motion was duly made,
seconded and carried that the recommendation of the Planning Commission be accepted.
The Planning Commission recommended the granting of a Use Permit to Marie ¥olonte for
the erection of a sign at the corner of Linden and Pine Avenues. Motion was duly made,
seconded and carried that the recommendation of the Planning Commission be a~cepted.

CONSERVATORY:
The Planning Commission recommended the granting of a Use Permit to Jessie Seaton for
the erection of a duplex on Lots 15 and 16, Block U. Motion was duly'made, seconded
and carried that the recommendation of the Planning ~ommission be accepted.
The American Musical Conservatory submitteda~ application for a business license for
teaching guitar at the Windbreakers Athletic Hall, Maple Avenue. Motion was~ulymade,
seconded and carried that permit be granted.

Hawley Industries requested permission to install a 550 gallon gasoline mtorage tank
on their property on South Maple Avenue. As the Fire Chief approved this installation,
motion was duly made, seconded and carried that p?rmission be granted.

RESOLUTION NO.

OF SAN BRUNO:
Councilman Sani introduced a resolution providing that the ~ City enter into an
agreement with the City of San Bruno for the construction and operation of a sewage
treatment plant. This resolution was adopted by the unanimous vote of all members of
the City Council.
RESOLUTION NO. 1426
AGREemENT .~ITH CHAS.
E. RANDLETT:
Councilman Elder introduced a resolution providing that' the ~ity, together with the City
of San Bruno, enter into' an agreement with Chas. E. Randlett for engineering services
in connection with the construction of a sewage ~reatment plaint. This resolution was
adopted by the unanimous vote of all members of the City Council.

RESOLUTION NO. ]3+28
BRENTWOOD NO. 2-
DIAGRAM:
Council m-n Boido introduced a resolution providing for the condemnation of certain land
in the Belair section. This resolution was' adopted by the unanimous vote of all members
of the City Council.
Councilman Cortesi introduced a resolution approving diagram of the property benefited
by the improvement work in Brentwood No. 2. This resolution was adopted by the unanimous
vote of all' members of the City Couhcil.
· SECOND BRIDGE:
Telegram wa~s received from the S~n Mateo County Planning Commission recommending that the
city wire Governor Warren to support a southern czossing and not a ~arallel bridge.
Motion was duly made, seconded and carried that t4e City Cl~rk wire Governor Warren,
Senator Parkman, and Assemblyman Dolwig to support a southern crossing and not a parallel
b~idge crossing.
BURI BURI FIRE ALARM
BOXES:
Councilman Elder reported, committee had contacted Mr. Simpson with reference to fire
alarm boxes in Buri Buri Bo. 2 and he was agreeable to standing $1500.O0 of this
installation ahd anything"over that amount to be paid by the City. The City Clerk was
instructed to request Buri Buri Homes to submit this offer in writing.
EQUIPMENT - MAPLE
AVENUE HALL:
As the Committee had no report to make with reference to recreation facilities at the
Maple Avenue Hall, this matter was laid over.
JARVIS - $~73.50:
City Attorney Coleberd reported he had checked into the request of Mr. Jarvis for
$A73.50 and found that this work had been authorized by the City. As there was a
question whether the Brentwood Company should pay this bill the matter was left in the
hands of %heCityAttorney.
SAN MATEO AVENUE
IMPRO~T:
The matter of improvement of San Mateo Avenue was laid over.
CITY~PLOYEES'
HOLIDAY PAY:
~otion was duly~ade, seconded And carried that the City employees be paid for eight
Holidays as follows: New Years Day, ~ashington'a Birthday, Decoration Day, Fourth of
July, Labor Day, Admission Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas.
DISASTER COUNCIL
COmmITTEE:
Mayor Ferko submitted
the following names for appointment to the Disaster Council:

Motion was duly made, seconded and carried that the appointments as made by Mayor Ferko
be confirmed.
CANCER PROCLAMATION:
Communication was received from the American Cancer Society requesting the Mayor to
issue a proclamation designating the month of April as "Cancer Control" month. Mayor
Ferko issued this proclamation a~d same was turned o~er to the press for publication.
STOP AND GO -
ARROYO DRIVE:
"A" STREET COMPLAINTS:
Mayor Ferko brought up the matter of Stop and Go signals at Arroyo Drive. He mentioned
the State requirements for these signals and stated the Buri Buri residents could
possibly do mo~e ~o obtain these signals if they contacted Sacramento direct. A
resident of Buri Burl Addressed the Council stating the residents of that section had
d~awn up petitioms and desired the Council to endorse same. It was regularly moved,
secohded and carried that the City Council endorse any petitions for signals at Arroyo
Drive.
AngeioMuriarti, a resident of "A" Street, eomplained of conditions of "A" Street since
installation of pipe line on this street. The Mayor stated lhe Pacific Gas & Electric
Co. intended to pave this street as soon as the rainy weather was over. Victor Robinson,
of the Pacific Gas & Electric Co., COnfirmed this statement. Mr. Muriarti also
complained of the conditions of gewers in this locality. This matter was referred to
Comm~ss{oner of Streets Cortesi, Works Engineer Randlett, and Supt. of Streets Schwein~ng.
ADJOURNMENT:
On motion of Councilman Sani, seconded by Councilm-e Elder, and regularly carried the
m. eeting was adjourned to April 4th, 1%9 at 8:00 p.m.
