Present: Councilmem Victor Boido, Leo Ferko~ Adolph Sani, Emildo Cortesi.
Absent: Councilman Chas. K. Elder
The meeting was called to order by Mayor Ferko at 8:00 p.m.
The City Clerk having forwarded copy of the minutes of the previous meetings held
April 18th and 26th to alt members of the City Council, Mayor Ferko asked if shy
errors or omissions were noted. ~here being none the minutes were approved as
submitted.
FRANCISCO TERRACE -
RESUBDIVISION:
Communication.was received from the Atlas Realty Co. enclosing diagram setting forth the
resubdivision of Lots i to 9, Block I Francisco Terrace. This matter was referred to
the Planning Commission.

RECREATION COMMISSION
PLAYGROUND:
Communication was received from R. B. Guerin & Co. requesting permission to use
explosives on land east of the B~thlehem Pacific Coast Steel Co. Motion was duly
made, seconded and carried that permission be granted providing a bond of $100,000.00
was supplied and that proper inspection be made at all times of blasting.
Communication was received from the Recreation Department recommending certain play-
grouhd equipment to be installed in the Eucalyptus-Acacia Park playground area. Motion
was duly made, seconded and carried that the recommendation of the Recreation
Commission be accepted.

RECREATION FACILITIES:
Communication was received from the Recreation Commission urging the City Council to
take favorable action on the Conumission's recommendation for the establishment of the
position of Custodian of Recreation Facilities; and that a custodian be obtained as
soon as possible. Councilman Bani stated the council members had not met with the
commissioner~ as yet, to discuss this matter. Mrs. Hernan, representing the
Recreation Commission, stated one good man was needed immediately for the position of
Custodian. It was therefore regularly moved, seconded and carried that the Recreation
Commission be notified to take the necessary steps to procure a Custodian of Recreation
Facilities.
GRAND AV~ PLAY-
GROUND:
Communication was received from the Recreation Commission recommending that the new
city park on Grand Avenue be nsmed E1 Camino Real Park. This matter ~as laid over
for further consideration.
FLOWER THEFT:
SOUTHWOOD DRAI'NAGE ~'
Communication was received from the Superintendent of Streets advising that over the
~ekend of April 23rd various plants and shrubs were taken from the rear of the City
Hall and from in front of the Orange Avenue Recreation Building. Superintendent of
Streets was instructed to have signs installed in the varimxs parks warning against
the stealing of plants.
Communication was received from the Southwood Women's Club requesting that something
be done with reference to storm and sanitary, sewers in the Southwood District. This
matter was referred to the Works Engineer and Superintendent of Streets.
STERLING TERRACE
~P NO. 2:
Co~amunication was received from Works Engineer Randlett submitting final map of
Sterling Terrace No. 2. Motion ~s duly made, seconded and carried that final map
of Sterling Terrace No. 2 be accepted.
REDWOOD CITY TRIBUNE
AD:
Communication was received from the Redwood City Tribune asking the City to take a
full page ad in the Fiesta Edition of the Redwood City Tribune at a cost of $175.00.
Councilman Sani moved, seconded by Councilman Boido that the city take a full page ad
in the Redwood City Tribune. This motiom.was carried hy the following vote: Ayes;
Councilmeo Sani and Boido~ Noes: Councilman Cortesi; Absent: Councilman Chas. K.
Elder.
BUSINESS LICENSE -
SANGALLI & L~I~EY:
JANITOR:
Mrs. Robert Murley submitted an application for a business license for a garage in the
name of Sangalli & Murley at 511 Bayshore Highway. Motion was duly made, seconded and
carried that permit be granted.
Commundcation was received from Superintendent of Streets Schweining advising that A.
Mutti had been off work since April 6th due %o an accident occuring at his home, and
that Carlo Gala was doing the janitor work at the present time. This communication
was filed.
TRAFFIC HEETING:
JEHOVAH ' S '~TNESSES:
Co~mmunication was received from Assemblyman Dolwig advising of public hearings to be
held on the Trans-Bay crossings. The Mayor stated he would attend the meeting to be
held in San Francisco on May 13th; Assemblyman Dolwig to be so advised.
Communication addressed to the Park Commission was received from Jehovah's .,mtnesses
requesting use of the city park on Sunday from June 19th through July 10th. This
matter was referred to the Recreation Commission.
BIANCHINI CAR O~{AGE:
Communication was received from Andrew Hynding enclosing bill of $39.50 covering t~e cos
of removing paint from Vincent E. Bianchini's automobile. This matter was referred to
the City Attorney.
ASSOCIATED IMP~OVE~{ENT The Associated Improvement Clubs requested permission to use the Council Chambers on
CLUBS: the evening of May 31st. Permission was granted.
CLA IMS:
Claims in the amount of ~32,510.75 were presented to the Finance Committee for approval.
On motion duly made, seconded and carried Claims were ordered paid.

An ordinance providing for the removal of weeds came up for final reading. Motion
was duly ~mde,.seconded and carried that this ordinance be read by title only and
be considered as final reading. City Clerk then read title of ordinance "An
Ordinance Providing for the Remov$1 of Weeds in the City of South San Francisco".
This ordinance was adopted by the following vote:. Ayes; Councilmen Boido, Ferko,
Sani and Cortesi. Noes; Councilmen none. Absent; Councilman Chas. K. Elder.
An.o~dinance creating the office of City Nanager came up for second reading. This
ordinance was adopted by the following vote: Ayes; Councilmen Boido, Ferko, Sani
and..Co6tesi. Noes; Councilmen none. Absent; Councilman Chas. K. Elder.
Councilman $ani introduced a resolution amending Resolution No. 1h!B with reference
to interest on bonds in Brentwood No. 3. This resolution was adopted by the unanimous
vote of all members of the City Council present.
Councilman Cortesi introduced a resolwtion requesting the Division of Highways to
open the Bayshore Highway to southbound traffic. This resolution was adopted by the
unanimous vqte of all me~bers of the City Council present.
As the Hillside and Elm Court Recreation Buildings were recommended for approval by
Architect Rowe and Superintendent of Recreation Pless, Councilman Boido introduced a
resolution declaring these buildings a~ completed. This resolution was adopted by the
unanimous vote of all members of the City Council present.
As the improvement ~ork in Brentwood No. 2 was completed, Nal~or Ferko asked if ~h~re
were any protests against the assessment covering this work. There being none, Council-
man Sani introduced a resolution confirming assessment for improvement work in Brent-
wood No. 2. This resolution was adopted by the unanimous vote of all members of the
City Council present.
~yor Ferko asked if there were any protests ~gainst the issuing of street bonds
covering the construction of a sanitary sewer in South Maple Avenue. There being none,
Councilman Boido introduced a resolution providing for the issuance of street improve-
ment bonds. This resolution was adopted by the unan~ous vote of all members of the
City Council present.
The matter of granting variance permit to Lyle Johnson, as recommended by the Planning
Commission, was brought up. Petition signed by 19 residents of "A" Stree~ protesting
this iasuance of a permit for a parking lot on "A" Stree~was presented. ~. Johnson
addressed the Council and stated him reasons for requestinga permit for a parking
lot on "A" Street. A number of "A" Street residents were present and voiced their
objections to such a parking lot. After some discussion this matter ~s laid over
until the next meeting.
Communication was received from Buri Buri Homes, Inc. agreeing to assume $1500.00 of the
cost of installing ~ fire alarm boxes in Rancho Burl Burl No. 2. Hotion was duly
made, seconded and carried t~at Burl Burl Homes, Inc. offer be accepted.
The claim of $h73.50 as presented by Mr. Jarvis was laid over.
The "Yorks Engineer advised that the Highway ComnJssion was proceeding with the detai~
covering encroachment of E1 Camino Real and Chestnut Avenue.
Mr. Conley of Buri Buri addressed the Council in regard to signal at Arroyo Drive.
He could not understand why a signal had not been installed as yet and asked that the
C~ty endeavor to have a signal installed in this area. He also asked that the City
Council present a resolution requesting the State Highway Division to install a signal
at Arroyo Drive and E1 Camino Real. The City Attorney stated he would draw up the
necessary resolution. The Mayor stated, as he had at previous meetings, that the Gity
was doing all possible to have this signal installed.
The Works Engineer advised that the extension of "B" Street would be taken care of
very shortly.
The Superintendent of Streets stated the Drive-In Theatre had been served notice by
the Health Department to abate the nuisance of standing water near the theatre. The
Supt. of Streets was instructed to keep after this matter.
On motion bf Councilman Sani, seconded by Councilman Boido~and regularly carried the
meeting was adjourned to Monday, ~y 9th, 19&9 at 7:30 p.m.
