REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SO'Mt SAN FRANCISCO HELD MONDAY, SE~ER 19, 19&9

Present: Councilmen Uictor Boido, Chas. K. Elder, Leo Ferko, Adolph Sani,
Emilio Cortesi. ·
.The meeting was called to order by Mayor Ferko at 8:00 p.m.
The City Clerk .having forwarded copy of the minutes of the previous meetings held
September 65h and 7th to all members of the City Council, Mayor Ferko asked if any
errors er omissions were noted. There being none the minutes were approved as
submitted.
It was regularly moved, seconded and carried that bids for the construction of a
storm drain on Oak Avenue be opened. The following bids were submitted~

Peter Sorensen & 530.17
Bragato Paving Co. 3 621.30
L.- C. Smith Company 3 051.75
Awarding of the contract was laid over until Tuesday evening.
Communications were received from the Standard Oil Co. and the United Air Lines
requesting permission to install gasoline storage tanks at the following locations:
ServiceStation - Bayshore & Miller Aves.
Service Station - Baden & Linden Avenues
San Francisco Airport
As the Fire Chief had approved installation of these tanks, motion was duly made,
seconded and carried that permission be granted.
Communication was received from the Planning Commission recommending the granting of
a use permit to the E. B. Motel to erect a 10' X 30' sign on the hill behind
Common's Garage. It was regularly moved, seconded and carried that the recommendation
ef the Planning Commission be accepted and that a revocable permit be issued to the
E. B. Motel.
At 8:13 p.m. a representative of the B & D Trucking Service presented a sealed bid
on the construction of a storm drain on Oak Avenue. ~ame was turned back to him as
the City Attorney advised that time had expired for presenting bids.
Communication was received from Eouis Belleni advising that he had appointed Mr.
James Ward, Sr. as a. Special Officer at the Consolidated Western Pipe & Steel Co.
Motion was duly made, seconded and carried that the appointment by the Police Chief
be confirmed; Mr. Ward to act without remuneration from the city.
Communication was received~from the Chief of Police advising that Officers Richard
Canziani and Imwrence Olivetti had completed their probationary period of one year
and were entitled to a salary of $275.00. This commnnication was ordered filed.
Reports for the month of August were submitted by the Chief of Police, City Judge,
Building Inspector, Public Health & Welfare, Humane Officer and Public Library.
Motion was duly made, seconded and carried that same be approved as submitted.
Claim- in the amountef $&9,087.72 were presented to the Finance Committee for
approval. On motion duly made, seconded and carried all claims were ordered paid.
An invitation was received from the Right Reverend Egisto Tozsi to the dedication of
the Ail Souls School, S~nday, October 2,'1919.
Communication was received from Marian Copland asking that the City Council protest
the commuters fare increase requested by the Southern Pacific Co.
A communication was~also~Peceived from H. R. Whiting advising that a petition had been
filed by the Southern Pacific Ce. with the California State Public Utilities
Commission requesting passenger Sare increases. He suggested this matter Be referred
to the City Attorney for action. The Mayor appointed Councilmen Sani and Elder am/
City Attorney Coleberd as a committee to check into this matter.
An ordinance amending Zoning Ordinance No. 269 was read by the City Clerk as the
first reading.
The Mayor asked if there were any protests on the vacating of a portion of Highland
Avenue. There being none, Councilman Elder introduced a resolution ordering the
vacation of a portion of Highland Avenue. This resolution was adopted by the unanimous
vote of all members of the City Council.
Motion was duly made, seconded and carried that the claim of Miss Ruth Johnson be
denied.
The matter of opening "B" Street was laid over.
Motion was duly made, seconded and carried that the request of the Peninsula Ice Co.
to install an automatic ice vendor at the Cape Esperance Housing Project be denied.

BURI BURI SIGNALS:
ADJO~T:
J. Conley of Buri Buri addressed the Council with reference to the signals at
Arroyo Drive and E1 C-m~no Real. The Mayor read a letter written by the City Manager
to' the State Division of Highways enclosing check for $15OO.00 to cover preliminary
plans. Mr. Conley thanked the council for their action.
Mr. Carlyle suggested something be done to clean up the condition on Grand Avenue
leading to the fregwa~. The' City Manager stated he would take care of this matter.
Counci~aan Cortesi suggested that something be done with reference to the lot and sign
across from the City Hall. The City Manager was asked to look into this matter; also
the parking sign on the city parking lot at Linden and Baden Avenue.
Ccuncilme_n Cortesi advised that the city dump would be open Saturdays a~d Sundays for
the free dumping of Eree trimmings and' shrubs.
On motion of Councilman Elder, seconded %y Bouncilman ~ani and regularly ca,tied, the
meeting was adjourned to ~Aesday, September ~2Oth at 8:00 p.m.
