PLACE: TIME: ROLL CALL: CA~L TO MINUTES Council Chambers, City Hall 8 o'clock p.m. Present: Councilmen Victor Boido~ Chas. K. Elder, Leo Ferko, Emilio Cortesi and Adolph Sani. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Ferko at 8:00 p.m. The .City Clerk having forwarded copy of the minutes of the meetings of October 26th and 27th to all members of the City Council, Mayor Ferko asked if any errors or omissions were noted. There being none the minutes were approved as submitted. SAFETY COMMITTEE IN RE: RESOLUTION:. A coammnication was received from the Safety Committee of the Chambers of Commerce of the San Francisco Peninsula asking the City Council to pass a resolution in favor of grade crossing legislation. ~Referred to City Attorney Coleberd. BUSINESS Ul~ 'S ASSN. THANKS: A communication was received from the Business Men's Assn. thanking the City Officials for their cooperation which added to the success of the second annual Columbus Day celebration. Ordered filed. RESULTS FIREMAN EXAMINATION: A communication was received from the Personnel Board advising the names of the following candidates were placed on the eligible list in the order named as having successfully passed the Fireman examination held September 16th: Stephen J. Ferko Reid L. Starmer Robert R. Bartholomew Frank Garbero John V. Fabbri Peter L. Fogliani Joseph A. Armanino Mervyn D. Jones REVISION PHYSICAL TESTS: Motion was duly made, seconded and regularly carried accepting list. A communication was received from the Personnel Board asking authorization to revise the. physical test given candidates making application for civil service ~ositions. Motiomwas duly made, seconded and carried authorizing the Personnel Board to proceed with the work.. BUNST BROS. - BUILDING PERMIT: Kunst Bros. made application to erect a paint factory on Butler Road. On motion duly ma~e, seconded and regularly carried permit was granted provided plans meet with Build- ing and Fire Codes. PAUL SUSA - BUILDING PERMIT: A communication was received from Paul Susa asking permission to raise present dwelling at 3&~ Baden Avenue in order to build a small store under same. Motion was duly made, seconded and regularly carried that permission be granted providing building codes are met. UNION OIL CO. - STORAGE TANK: A communication was received from E. G. Coopman asking permission to install a 280 gallon underground storage tank on premises occupied by the Atlas Roofing Co., 913 Bayshore Highway. Permission granted. SO. SAN FRANCISCO SCHOOL ROAD CONSTRUCTION: A communication was received from the South San Francisco Unified School District setting forth requirements for access to the new high school and asking if the city would proceed with the construction of A and B Street extensions. Mr. L. D. McLeod, President of the school board was present to discuss the matter. After discussion the council set Monday, November l&th, 19~9 at 8:00 p.m. for a meeting with the school board. SPECIAEPOLICE OFFICERS:A communication was received from Chief of Police Louis Belloni submitting the name of Erle Barker aS Special Police Officer at E1 Camino Real and Orange Ave. and George Karabats as Special Police Officer at Martin School. Motion was duly made, seconded and regularly carried that the appoihtments be confirmed. OPEN HOUSE - PUBLIC LIBRARY: THERESA GIAMPAOLI - STENO. POLICE: A communication ~was received from the South San Francisco Library inviting the City Council and their associates to open house Wednesday, November 16th from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Ordered filed. A communication was received from Chief of Police Belloni advising that Theresa D. Giampaoli commenced duties November l, 19&9, as Police Stenographer at a salary of $200 per month. Motion was dulymade, seconded and regularly carried that the appoint- ment be confirmed. BUSINESS LICENSES - GEORGE'S COFFEE SHOP: George's Coffee Shop made application to conduct the business of a restaurant at 102 Grand Avenue, submitting an o.k. from the Health Department. Motion was duly made, seconded and regularly carried that Permission be granted. RANCHO BEAUTY SALON: Rancho Beauty Salon made Application to conduct the business of beauty salon at 1119 E~ Camino Real. Motion was duly made, seconded and regularly carried that permission be granted. MONTHLY REPORTS: Reports for the month of October were submitted by the Chief of Police, Fire Chief, Building Inspector and Health Department. On motion duly made, seconded and regularly carried same were approved as read. CLAIMS: Claims in the amount of $3A,995.5& were submitted to the Finance Committee for approval. On motion duly made, seconded and regularly carried all claims as submitted were ordered paid. PENINSULA DIVISION LEAGUE DINN~: A communication was received from the League of California Cities Peninsula Division advising of the dinner meeting to be held Thursday November 17, 19~9, at Rickey's,, Palo Alto. The Mayor asked that all officials be notified of the meeting. BURI BURI FIRE STATION A communication was received from Leslie C. Irwin advising that the B~ri Buri Fire CC~PLETION: Station had been completed and recommended that the building be accepted as complete. RESOLUTION NO. 1&97 ACCEPTING BURI BURI FIRE STATION: VOLUNTEERS OF AMERICA - TAG DAY: DRIV~ LICENSE SERVICE: SAN FRANCISCO .WATER DEPT~, - REVOCABLE P~T: Councilman Sani introduced a resolution declaring that the Buri Buri fire station has been completed in accordance with plans and specifications. This resolution was passed by the unanimous vot. e cf all members of the City Council. A~ cmmmunication was received from the 'Volunteers of America asking permission to hold a one day Tag Day on November 19th. On motion duly made, seconded and regularly carried granting permission. A cmmmmication was r~ceived from the D~partment of Motor ~e~cles acknowledging the City's request for drivers license service advising the department would not be able to finance this service. The city clerk was instructed to contact Mr. Mason, Chief of the Division of Drivers' Licenses regarding this service. ~ communication was received from the Sa~ Francisco Water Department enclosing three sigJ copies of Revocable Permit authorized by the Public Utilities Commission under Resoluti~ No. 10159, requesting that they be signed by an authorized official. On motion duly made, seconded and carried the Mayor was authorized to sign the permit. FRANCISCO TERRACE RESUBDIVISION: Mr. G. Parsons, Secretary of the Atlas Realty Co. appeared before the City Council -... and referred to a request of the Company for the resubdivision of lots 1 to 9, Block 1, Francisco Terrace, asking that the map be accepted. Council~m~n Sani moved that the Resubdivision Map of Francisco Terrace be accepted. The motion was seconded by Council- man Elder. This motion was later withdrawn when ~t was learned that on June 11, 19&9 th. Planning Commission ~enied the application to resubdivide these lots. The Atlas Realty Co. was asked to submit to the building inspector an application for a variance permit. CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS - BUR1 BUR1 FIRE HOUSE: Councilman Cortesi asked that the new fire station at Buri Buri be decorated for Christmas in keeping with %he rest of the trac$. Fire Chief Welte said he would decorat. the fire station. ~ERLING T~P~ACE - RETAINING WALL: Councilman Sani brought up the matter of the ~am~ge being done by Sterling Terrace Co. in the Beech Avenue area. Residents of this section were present and wanted to know wha% was being done about having Sterling Terrace Co. build a retaining wall. The Council authorized the City Clerk to call this matter to the attention of the Company again requesting an immediate answer. Councilman Elder brought dp the matter of a railing or light on Chestnut Avenue. City Manager Larwood advised the matter was being taken care of. SIGNA~ARROYO& EL C~O: Mr. Jay S. Conley appeared before the Council and asked what progress was being made towards the installation of the signal at Arroyo and E1 C~mfno. CityManager Larwood stated plans were in the making. Mayor Ferko asked Mr. Larwood to write to the State to ascertain what progress was being made.
