Present: Councilmen Victor Boido, Charles Elder, Adolph Sani, Emilio Cortesi.
Absent: Leo Ferko.
Councilman Elder moved, seconded by Councilman Cortesi, that Councilman Sani act
'a§ Mayor due to the absence of Mayor Ferko. This motion was regularly carried.
The meeting was called to order by acting Mayor Sani at ~:00 p.m.
City Clerk having forwarded a copy of the minutes of'the previous meeting to all
members of the City Council, acting Mayor Sani asked if any errors or omissions
were noted. There being none, the minutes were approved as submitted.
Motion was duly made seconded, and carried, that bids for the alterations to
existing Sewage Pump House be opened~ The following bids were submitted:

The Works Engineer recon~.ended that these figures be submitted to the City
Council of San Bruno as this was a joint project. Motion was duly made, seconded,
and carried, that the awarding of the contract be postponed to next meeting.
Communicatioh was received from the Works Engineer presenting plans and speci-
fications for a softball flood lighting system at Orange Avenue Park. Council-
man Cortesi introduced a resolution ordering the installation of a flood
lighting system at Memorial Park. This resolution was adopted by the unanimous
vote of all members of the Council present.
Communication was received from the Works Engineer presenting final map of
Sterling Terrace No. 5; also plans and specifications for the street improvement
of Sterling Terrace No. 3 and Sterliflg Terrace No. 5. Motion was duly made,
seconded, and carried, that this matter be laid over until a full board is
present.
Communication was received from Chief of Police Belloni requesting that an or-
dinance be passed making angle parking legal in the Southwood and Brentwood
business districts. Motion was duly made, seconded, and carried, that the
recommendation of the Chief of Police be accepted and that the City Attorney draw
~p the necessary ordinance.
Communication was received from Superintendent'of Streets Schweining advising
that Carlo Gala, working as a janitor, had completed his thirty day sick leave
March 9th, and his vacation time would be completed March 23rd. He recommended
that Mr. Gala be given a leave of absence until May 21, 1950 as he would be
unable to work until that date. Motion was duly made, seconded, and carried,
that leave of absence, as recommended by the Superintendent of Streets, be
granted Carlo Gala.
Resolutions were received from the Planning Commission recommending the granting
of variances and adjustments and use permits to the followin~ parties: Sterling
Terrace Corporation, David & Alvin Arata, Pete Ruggeri, George Laury, Joe
Mainini, and the San Francisco Drive-In-Theatre Corporation. Motion was duly
made, seconded, and carried, that the recommendations of the Planning Commission
be accepted.
Communication was received from the Planning Commission advising that final
map of Sterling Terrace No. 5 was approved with certain provisions. This
communication was ordered filed.
Communication was received from the Atlas Realty Company advising that they were
interested in the Daly subdivision and requested that original map-plan be placed
on record. Motion was duly made, seconded, and carried, that the Works Engin-
eer be given instructions to follow through on this matter.
Communication was received from the Civil Service Employees Association of the
city requesting consideration of salaries and hours. This matter was referred
to the Wage Committee.
Communication was received fr°m the A. W. Soricb Bucket & Drum Company requesting
permission to erect a steel building at Canal and South Maple Streets. Motion
was duly made, seconded, and carried, that permit be granted providing all
building regulations are complied with.
Communication was received from the Baysbore Construction Company requesting
permission to erect a building for the Pu~dy Company. Motion was duly made,
seconded, and carried, that permit be granted providing all building regula-
tions are complied with.
Michael Martinel]i submitted application for a business license for Cigar Stand
at 210 Linden Avenue. Motion was duly made, seconded, and carried, that permit
be granted providing same meets with the a~proval of the Chief of Police.

Philip H. Treary submitted application for Newspaper Display Advertising
business at 305 Linden Avenue. Motion was duly made, seconded, and carried,
that this application be laid over and that this applicant be asked to be
present at the next meeting.
Robert Horton submitted ap~tication for a business license for Service Station
in the Brentwood Subdivision. Motion was duly made, seconded, and carried,
that permit be ~ranted providing all fire regulations are complied ~..ith.
Dorothy Kremsreiter submitted an application for a business license for a
Beauty Salon at 659 E1 Camino Real. Motion was duly made, seconded, and
carried, that permit be granted.
Rita H. Mackin submitted an application for a business license for a Child-
ren's Nursery at 129 Cherry Avenue. Motion was duly made, seconded, and
carried, theft permit be denied as this was not in the business district.
Claims in the amount of ~13,927.97 were approved by the Finance Committee. On
motion duly made, seconded, and carried, claims as submitted were ordered oaid.
Reports for the month of Febr~ary were submitted by the Humane Officer and
the Public Library. Motion was duly ma~e, seconded, and carried, that same
be accepted and filed.
Councilman Boido introduced a resolution declaring the city's intention to
improve Hillside Blvd. from Linden Avenue to the westerly line of High School
Terrace No. 2. This resolution was adopted by the unanimous vote of all mem-
bers present.
Application of Frank Calerio for a permit for Used Car Lot, which was laid
over from previous meeting, was taken up. Some of the residents of this
area were present and stated they woold object to a wrecking yard at this
location, but if it was just for used cars, they would have no objection.
This matter was laid over for two weeks.
Communication was received from Mr. and Mrs. Michael Hernan comrnendin~ the
Po]ice Department for their good work in patrol duty in their neighborhood
during the family absence after their daughter was married. This co~r~nuni-
cation was filed.
Communication was received from Raymond K. Chang requesting application for
a business permit to operate a market in block 55, Zone D. This re~2est was
referred to the Building Inspector.
Councilman Elder recommended that R. Bartholomew and R. Starmer be selected
from the eligible list for appointment to the Fire Department. Motion was
duly made, seconded, and carried, that R. Bartholomew and R. Starmer be
appointed to the Fire Department effective April 15th.
Acting Mayor Sani stated he had visited the Buri Buri area and ths~ cable
for the signals was installed an~ concrete would be poured Tuesday with work
to be completed in about ten days.
Acting Mayor Sani stated the extension of Spruce Avenue was being worked on,
and he felt that the Works Engineer should follow through with the property
owners along this proposed street. The Works Engineer said he was now
preparing an estimate and would have a meeting with property owe]ers at an
early date.
On motion of Councilman Cortesi, seconded by Councilman Elder and regularly
carried, the meetin~ was adjourned to Monday, April 3, 1950 at 8:00 p.m.
