Present: Councilmen Victor Boido, Charles K~ Elder, Adolph Sani, Joseph Bracco,
Emilio Cortesi.
Absent: None.
The meeting was called to order at 8:10 p.m. by Mayor Sani.
The City Clerk having forwarded copies of the minutes of the previous meetings
of May 15, 1950 and May 29, 1950, to all councilmen, Mayor Sani asked if there
were any errors or omissions. There being none, the minutes were approved as
submitted.
Communication was received from Chief of Police Belloni advising that Officer
Cortez had been off sick from May 8th to May 17th, and had resumed his regular
duties on May 18th. This communicatioewas ordered filed.
Communication was received from Chief of Police Belloni advising that officers
Bernard Esparza ~nd Vincent E. Bianchini had completed two years service and were
entitled to increase in salary from $275 to $290 per month. Motion was duly
made, seconded, and carried, that the recommendation of the Chief of Police be
accepted.
Communication was received from Chief of Police Belloni advising that Joseph
Kimble had completed his year probationary period June 1, 1950 and was entitled
to salary increase from $265 to $275 per month. Motion was duly made, seconded,
and carried, that the recommendation of the Chief of Police be accepted.
Communication was received from Chief of Police Belleni asking that the Person-
nel Board be requested to call for examination fo~ Police Officer. Motion was
duly made, seconded, and carried, that the Personnel Board be requested to call
for e~am~nation for police officer.
Communication was received from Fire Chief Welte requesting the services of an
additional man to be used as a relief man in the fire department. Motion was
duly made, seconded, and carried, that the re~uest of Fire Chief Welte be accepted
and that the Personnel Board be asked to submit names for this position.
Communication was received from Fire Chief Welte advising that Thc~ D. Smith,
Leonard Dimminger and Italo Ferrario had resigned from the Call Forces of the
Fire Department as of June 1st. This communication was ordered filed.
Communication was received from Fire Chief Welte advising that Basil Fornesi,
Robert Swope, and Allen Borba had completed their second year of service in the
Fire Department June 1st, and were e~titled to salary of $290 per month. Motion
was duly made, seconded, and carried, thmt the recom~_endation of the Fire Chief
be accepted.
Communication was received from Carlo Gaia tendering his resignation as Janitor in
the police building due to ill health. Motion was duly made, seconded, and
carried, that resignation of Carlo Gala be accepted.
Communication was received from Superintendent of Streets Schweining requesting
permission to leave the stateon vacation from June 26th to July 16th. Motion
was duly made, seconded, and carried, that pe~sst~n~befgranted Superintendent of
Streets Schweining to leave the state.
Communication was received from City Judge Robbins requesting permission to be
absent from the state on vacation for two weeks starting June 18th. Motion was
duly made, seconded, and carried, that the request of City Judge Robbins be grante,
Communication was received from the Recreation Commission requesting change in the
Subdivision Ordinance No. 297. Same was laid over for further study.
Communication was received f~om the Pla~ming Commission recommending the annexatioz
of a parcel of land known as the Fontana and ~arrer property near the Southwood
Commercial center. Councilman Cortesi was of the opinion this piece of land shou~
not be taken in until the territory of Country Club Park is annexed. Motion was
duly made, seconded, and carried, that this matter be referred back to the Plan-
ning Commission.
Communication was received from the Planning Commission approving t~e final map
of Parkway Terrace No. 3. Motion was duly made, seconded, and carried, that
the recommendation of the Planning Commission be accepted.
The Planning Commission recommended the granting of a variance permit to Venanzi
Fornesi. Motion was dulymade, seconded, and carried, that the recommendation
of the Planning Commission be accepted.
The Planning Commission recommended the granting of use permits to Mr. Arthur
Sevey and Mr. James C. Nelson. Motion was dulymade, seconded, and carried,
that the recommendation of the Planning Commission be accepted.
ATTORNEY WHITING
RATE INCREASES:
Communication was received from Attorney H. R. Whiting asking that a committee of
city attorneys be formed to discuss rate increase requests for public utilities.

LAND CO.--GARBAGE
DUMP:
Communication was received from the Building and Construction Trades Council of San
Mateo County asking that the city endorse the Reber Plan.. This matter was laid over
for further study.
Communication was received from the south San Francisco Land and Improvement Company
advising that land under agreement with the city for a garbage dump has been complete-
ly filled and requested that a meeting be arranged to discuss this matter. Mayor Sani
set Monday, June 12th as a meeting date.
BUSINESS LICENSE
R.J. McDONALD:
R. J. McDonald submitted an application for a business license for the sale of pumice
brick at 100 South Linden Avenue. Motion was duly made, seconded, and carried that
permit be granted.
CLAIMS:
Claims in the amount of $25,735.53 were approved by the Finance Committee. On motion
duly made, seconded, and carried, claims as submitted were ordered paid.
MONTHLY REPORTS:
Reports for the month of May were submitted by the Fire Chief, Building Inspector,
and Humane Officer. Motion was duly made, seconded, and carried that same be approved
as submitted.

BLVD:
Councilman Bracco introduced a resolution overruling protests to improvement of Hill-
side Blvd from%Linden Avenue to High School Terrace No. 2. This resolution was
ad~pted by the/unanimous vote of all members of the council.
Counci_]man Cortesi introduced a resolution ordering improvment of Hillside Blvd from
Linden Avenue to High School Terrace No. 2. This resolution was adopted by the unani-
mou~ vote ofall members of the council.
RESOLUTION NO. 15&l Councilman Bo~do introduced a resolution providing for the vacationoof Tunitas Lane.
VACATING TUNITAS LANE: This resolution was adopted by the unanimous vote of all members of the council.
RESOLUTION NO. 15&2
MAYOR OF ROME:
Councilman Elder introduced a resolution of the city of South San Francisco expressing
it's appreciation for the hon. r bestowed upon the city by the visit of Signor Sal-
vatore Rebecchini, Mayor of~eme. This resolution was adopted by the unanimous vote
of all members of the council.

CENTRAL FIRE STATION:
Co~mmnication was received from Architect William Henry Rowe advising that Monson
Bros. had completed the repainting of the exterior of the Central Fire Station and
same was satisfactory. He therefore recommended that the balance due on the contract,
$2,000. be paid. Motion was duly made, seconded, and carried, that Monson Bros. be
paid $2,000. as final payment on the Central Fire Station.
DANCE--DRUM CORP.
Communication was received from the South San Francisco Drum Corp. requesting permit
for a dance to be held June 17th. Motion was duly made, seconded, and carried, that
permission be granted provided proper police protection is secured.
DAMAGE CLAIM
ETTA PHIPPIN:
BURLINGAME ADVANCE:
Claim against the city of South San Francisco in the ~mount of $13~.0&, covering
damage claimed by Etta Phippin, was received. Motion was duly made, seconded, and
carried, that this claim be rejected.
The matter of subscribing to ad in the Burlingame Advance, which was laid over from
previous meeting, was brought up. Motion was duly made, secor~ed, and carried, that
a page advertisement in the amount of $175. be taken in the Burlingame Advance, the
City Manager to follow up on the ad to be placed.
QUALMAN PROPERTY
FIRE SITE:
Motion was made and carried ~hat Mr. Qualman be paid $270. for refund of taxes he
paid on Fire site acquired from him. City Clerk was instructed to request the Board
of Supervisors to cancel future taxes on this propertyi Motion was duly made, sec-
onded, and carried that assessment on this property be exempted from city taxes.
WINDBREAKERS
TRACK MEET:
Mayor Sani stated he had witnessed the Windbreakers track and field day at the High
School grounds on Sunday. He felt that some recognition should be shown the Wind-
breakers for their sport activities and asked that the City Attorney draw up a reso-
lution commending the Windbreakers.
ADJOURNMENT:
On motion of Councilman Cortesi, seconded by Councilman Elder, and regularly carried,
the meeting was adjourned to June 19, 1950, at 7 P. m.
