CALL TO ORDER:
MINUTES:
The meeting was called to order at 8:10 p. m. by Mayor Sani.
City Clerk having forwsrded copies of the minutes of the previous meetings of Septem-
ber 8, 1950 and September 12, 1950 to all councilmen, Mayor Sani asked if there were
any errors or omissions. There being none, the minutes were approved as submitted.
SOUTH MAPLE AVENUE Mayor Sani asked if anyone desired to protest the improvement of South Maple Avenue.
I~ROV~{ENT: There were no protests. Councilman Elder then introduced a resolution ordering the
RESOLUTION NO. 1579: improvement work on South Maple Avenue. This resolution was adooted by the unanimous
vote of all members of the city council.
HILLSIDE BLVD.
PLANS & SPECIFICA-
TIONS:
Communication was received from the !~forks Engineer presenting for approval plans and
specifications for a sewer in Hillside Blvd. at an estL~ated cost of $5,350.00.
Councilman Elder moved, seconde~~ by Councilman Boido, that the plans and specifications
as presented by the Works Engineer be accepted. This motion was regularly carried.
PAYMENT ON PUMP
HOUSE:
Communication was received from the !.forks Engineer advising that contractor C. Norman
Peterson was entitled to a profress payment of $18,000.O0, coverinf completed work
on the pump house. Motion was duly made, seconded, and csrried, that the recommenda-
tion of the I'forks Engineer be accepted and C. Norman Peterson be paid ~18,O00.00.
OFFICERS %~IPPLE
AND BIANCHINI:
Communication was received from Chief of Police Belloni advising that Officers
Vincent E. Bianchini and ~'filliam C. h~ipple ?~d returned to work September 15th as
the thirty day suspension period had elapsed. This con~nunication was ordered filed.
PLAYGROUNDJWINSTON
MANOR:
Communication was received from the Recreation Commission recommending an area in
Winston Manor as a park and play~round, which the city should request from the sub-
divider. Councilman Elder moved, seconded by Councilman Boido, that this communica-
tion be referred to the Planning Commission ~ith the recom~nendation that they take
favorable action on same. This motion was regularly carried.
RICCOMI COMPLAINT:
Communication was received from J. E. Riccomi protesting the manner in which the sub-
division of Parkway Terrace No. 3 is being ~raded, claiming that he will be bothered
by soil erosion in the years to come. Councilman Elder moved, seconded by Councilman
Cortesi, that this matter he referred to the Works Engineer. ThB motion w~s regularly
carried. ~
BRF~.fOOD CLUB DANCE: Communication was received from the Brentwood Club re~uesting permission to hold a
street dance September 30th in the street in front of the Brentwood Market. Motion
was duly made, seconded, and carried, that permit be granted.
LEAGUE OF CALIFORNIA
CITIES MEE~TI~.IG:
Communication was received from the Lea.~ue of California Cities, Peninsula Division,
advising of meeting to be held in Redwood City September 21, 1950. This communication
was ordered filed.
SAN MAT~ COUNTY' Communication was received from the San Mates County Industrial Development Commission
IND. D~F~. CO~'~ISSION:with reference to interesting new industries in the county and asking that two mem-
bers be appointed as a committee to this Co~nission. Mayor Sani appointed Councilman
El~er and Councilman Bracco.
SPRUCE AVENUE FILL:
SONS OF ITALY:
Communication was received from the South San Francisco Land & Improv~nent Company,
advising they had comoleted their part of the agreement on the grading and fill of
Spruce Avenue extension, with the exception of the deeding of rights-of-way and a com-
pletion of the work in front of the Drive-In Theatre. Mr. Shaw advised nothing more
can be done until arrangements have been made for the crossing of the Southern Pacific
tracks and the filling of t'~e property from the Southern Pacific trac~ to the E1
Camino Real, and suggested that a road block be installed at the north end. The
works engineer sugirested that Spruce ~venue be left open for the present until it is
proved to be unsafe. He stated the matter had been taken u~ with the Southern Pacific
Company and he would a~ain contact them. The matter was referred to the works engineer,
Councilman Cortesi, and Superintendent of Streets Schweining.
Communication was received from Loggia Alessandro Volta No. 1956, thanking the council
for grantin5 permission for the use of the picnic grounds on August 13, 1950. This
contmunication was ordered filed.
BUSINESS LICD~SE
PYROMET BRAZING &
HEAT TRF~TING CO:
CLAIMS:
Application was submitted by P~. E. Lewis for a furnace brazing and in~ction brazing
business under the name of the P~omet Brazing and Heat Treating Co. at South Canal
Street. Mr. Lewis was present at the nmetin? and assured the council that t~ere would
be no odors from this heating process. Councilman Elder moved, seconded by Councilman
Boido, that license be granted. This motion was regularly carried.
Claims in the am~aunt of ~11,381.32 were approved by the Finance Co~nittee. On motion
duly made, seconded, and carried, claims as submitted were ordered paid.
MONTHLY REPORTS:
Reports for the month of August were submitted by t?e Chief of Police, City Judge,
Building Inspector, Fire Chief, and Humane Officer. Motion was duly made, seconded,
and carried, that same be approved as submitted.
RPi$OLUTION NO. 1580
HILLSIDE BLVD:
Councilman Cortesi introduced a resolution ordering the construction of a s~nitary
sewer between Linden Avenue and Edison ~venue on Hillside Boulevard. This resolution
was adopted by the unanimous vote of all members of the council.
EASEMENT-DALY
SUBDIVISION:
The City Attorney presented a description of a sewer easement to be abandoned in the
Daly Subdivision. Councilman Bracco moved, seconded by Councilman Elder, that this
matter be referred to the Planning Commission.
LIND~ AVENUE
SPUR TRACK:
The matter of the Southern Pacific Company request to install a spur track over Linden
Avenue, was held over until the l~orks Engineer was able to contact the Southern
Pacific Company.
COOP LIC~{SE:
License to store cans on parcel 47 Zone H, requested by Earl O. Coop, was taken up.
Mr. Coop was present and explained that there would be no old cans laying around. He
assured the council he would keep the place clean. On this basis, Councilman Elder
moved, seconded by Councilman Boido, that permit be Eranted Earl O. Coop. This motion
was regularly carried.

LICENSE:
Mayor Sani explained that the Planning Commission did not have a quorum to take up
the matter of the Brentwood Bowl license, but those of the Planning Commission present
felt that a permit should be issued. CounciLman Bracco moved, seconded by Councilman
Elder, that the necessary permit be issued the Brentwood Bowl. This motion was regu-
larly carried.
SANTO CHRISTO SOCIETY:No action was taken on the Santo Christs Society as there was not a quorum present at
the last Planning Commission meeting. ~
STOP SIGNS:
Councilman Cortesi stated machines travel very fast on Commercial Avenue near Eucalyptus
Avenue and he thought stop or slow signs should be installed. This matter was referred
to the Road Committee of the Planning Commission.
POLICE AND FIRE
D~PARTME~TS:
Councilman Elder brought up the matter of the shortage of men in the Police and Fire
Departments and moved that the Personnel Board be requested to call for further exam-
inations for Police and Firemen. Councilman Bolds seconded this motion and same was
regularly carried.
POLICE BUILDING:
Mayor Sani instructed the City Clerk to write letters to Architect Rowe and Contractor
Bettancourt asking them to meet with the City Council on October 2nd at 7 P. m. with
reference to the Police Building.
LLOYD COSGROVE:
ADJOURNM~T:
Mr. Lloyd Cosgrove of the Brentwood Company was present and ~yor Sani asked him for
a few remarks. He stated he ,.ms pleased to hear that the council had granted permit
to the Brentwood Company to erect a building and license to the Brentwood Bowl to con-
duct a business in the Brentwood Subdivision.
On motion of Councilman Bracco, seconded by Councilman Elder, and regularly carried,
the meeting was adjourned to October 2, 1950 at 8 p. m.
