MINUTES:
The meeting was called to order at 8 p. m. by Mayor Sani.
City Clerk having forwarded copies of the minutes of the previous meetings of June
1951 and June 6, 1951 to all councilmen, Mayor Sani asked if there were any errors
or omissions. There being none, the minutes were approved as submitted.
PROGRESS REPORT
SEWAGE DISPOSAL PLANT:
Communication was received from the Works Engineer submitting May Construction Prog-
ress Report for the sewage disposal plant and recommending that a payment be made
to the M & K Corporation in the amount of $81,580.88. Motion was made by Councilman
Elder, seconded by Councilman Bracco and regularly carried, that the report and
recommendation of the Works Engineer be accepted and a progress payment be made to
the M & K Corporation.
SPRUCE AVE. EXTENSION
IMPROVEMENTS:
Communication was received from the Works Engineer advising that the contractor had
comDleted the Spruce Avenue Improvements between the Southern Pacific Railroad and
E1 Camino Real, and recommending that a payment be made the cohtractor in the amount
of $2959.18. Motion was made by Councilman Bracco, seconded by Councilman Elder and
regularly carried, that the report and recommendation of the Works Engineer be accepted
and payment be made to R. A. Farish in the amount of $2959.18.
PECK'S HEIGHTS ALLEY
CLOSING:
Communication was received from the Works Engineer submitting a map showing the
location of alleys proposed to be abandoned in the PeCk,s Subdivision, and advised
that protestants did not own property near the alleys. Motion was made by Council-
man Elder, seconded by Councilman Bracco, and regularly carried, that protests
against the abandonment of alleys in the proposed Peck's Heights Subdivision be over-
ruled.
RESOLUTION NO. 1667:
Councilman Bracco introduced a resolution ordering thevacation of certain public
thoroughfares or alleys in Peck's Lots. This resolution was adopted by the unanimous
vote of all members of the council present.
FIREMAN BEGNAL INJURY:
Communication was received from Fire Chief Welte advising that Fireman C. Begnal sus-
tained an injury at his home and would be laid up for a period of approximately four
weeks. This communication was ordered filed.
USE PERMIT
PETER RUGGE~I:
Resolution was received from the Planning Commission recommending the granting of a
use permit to Peter Ruggeri to allow the construction of two greenhouses at 525
Chestnut Avenue. Motion was made by Councilman Bracco, seconded by Councilman Elder,
and regularly carried, that the recommendation of the Planning Commission be accepted.
WHIPPLE RESIGNATION:
Communication was received from Police Officer Willism C. Whipple tendering his res-
i~nation effective June 15, 1951. Chief of Police Belloni advised that June l~th
was the last day worked by Officer Whipple. Motion was made by Councilman Elder,
seconded by Councilman Bracco and regularly carried, that the resignation of Officer
Whipple be accepted and that he be paid for time due him.
CALIFORNIA BURGLAR
ALARM COMPANY:
Communication was received from the California Burglar Alarm Co. submitting request
for permission to install a burglar alarm signal board in the Polic· Department with-
out cost to the city. This matter was laid over to the next regular meeting.
TRUCE~ ON COMMERCIAL AVE:Communication was received from Mrs. Marion Kimble complaining of the speed of trucks
on Commercial Avenue and suggesting that they be routed over Orange Avenue. This
matter was referred to the City Manager.
PARADISE VALLEY IMPROVE-
M~NT CLUB PARADE:
Commnication was received from the Paradise Valley Improvement Club requesting per-
mission to hold a parade on Saturday, June 23rd at 2:30 p. m. and inviting Mayor Sani
and the city officials to participate. Motion was made by Councilman Bracco, sec-
onded by Councilman Elder and regularly carried, that permission be granted the
Paradise Valley Improvement Club to hold a parade on June 23rd.
CALIFORNIA MISSION
TRAILS ADVERTISING:
Commmication was received from California Mission Trails Ass~n. requesting an appro-
priation from the city of $150.00 for advertising. Motion was made by Councilman
Bracco, seconded by Councilman Elder and regularly carried, that the California
Mission Trails Assn. request be denied.
BINI GASOLINE TANK:
Communication was received from Larry Bini requesting permission to install a 1000
gallon gasoline tank and pump on property at Maple and Baden Avenues. As parking lot
permit granted Larry Bini did not allow this installation, motion was made by Coun-
cilman Elder, seconded by Councilman Bracco and regularly carried, that this request
be denied.
Claims in the amount of $19,31A.30 were approved by the Finance Committee. On motion
duly made, seconded, and regularly carried, claims as submitted were ordered paid.
MONTHLY REPORTS:
Reports for the month of May 1951 were submitted by the Chief of Police, City Judge,
Fire Chief, Building Inspector, Library, Health Dept., and Humane Officer. On motion
duly made, seconded, and regularly carried, reports as suhnitted were accepted and
filed.

Ordinance amending ordinance No. 315 came up for second reading. This ordinance,
regulating public dances in the city, was read in its entirety and was adopted by
the following vote: Ayes, Councilmen Charles K. Elder, Adolph Sani, Joseph Bracco,
Emilio Cortesi; Noes, Councilmen, None; Absent, Councilman Victor Boido.
Councilman Elder introduced a resolution requesting Senator Harry L. Parkman to sup-
port Assembly Bill No. 3217. This resolution was adopted by the unanimous vote of
all members of the council present.
The City Manager advised that plans for the improvement of Third Lane were about
completed by the Works Engineer and work should star~[an early date.
Councilman Cortesi stated there was a bad condition in the Avalon Park area where
same was being used as dumping grounds. Signs were suggested to eliminate this
condition.
Councilman Cortesi stated that Grand Avenue should be washed off occasionally. City
Manager stated this matter would be taken care of.
The City Attorney suggested that a resolution be passed by the Council and the
meeting adjourn out of respect to the late George W. Holston, former Mayor and Coun-
cilman of the city. The City Attorney was authorized to draw up the necessary reso-
lution.
Motion was made by Councilman Elder, seconded by Councilman Bracco, that the meeting
be adjourned to June 25, 1951 at &:30 p. m. This motion was regularly carried, and
the meeting was adjourned at 8:30 p. m. out of respect to former Mayor ~eorge W.
Holston.
