The meeting was called to order at 8 p. m. by Mayor Sani.

City Clerk having forwarded copy of the minutes of the previous meeting of
September 11, 1951 to all councilmen, Mayor Sani asked if there were any errors
or omissions. There being none, the minutes were approved as submitted.
This being the date set for opening bids for re-roofing the City Hall, Council-
man Elder moved that the bids be opened. This motion was seconded by Councilman
Boido and regularly carried.
The following bids were submitted:

Councilman Cortesi introduced a resolution awarding contract for re-roofing city
hall to Aetna Roof Service Co. This resolution was adopted by the unanimous vote
of all members of the city council.
Works Engineer Randlett submitted the August 1951 Construction Progress Report and
Distribution of Construction Costs for the Sewage Disposal Plant, recommending
the progress payment of $81,520.18 be made to M & K Construction Corp. On motion
duly made, seconded and regularly carried, the report was accepted and progress
payment of $81,520.18 was ordered paid.
A copy of letter from Assemblyman Richard Dolwig to Alvin S. Hatch, Chairman of
the Board of Supervisors regarding to assignment of additional patrolmen to San
Mateo County was read and ordered filed.
A communication was received from Supt. of Streets Henry Schweining recommending
that the Personnel Board be authorized to call examination for Street Utility Men.
A Motion was duly made, seconded and regularly carried, that the rec~mnendation of
the Supt. of Streets be accepted.
A communication was received from T. G. Shannon requesting permission to install
one 10OO gallon underground tank and electric pump at 330 Canal Street. On motion
duly made, seconded and regularly carried, permission was granted provided such
installation meets with the approval of the Fire Chief.
A communication was received from the California Golf Club regarding a meeting
with them to discuss fire protection. The City Clerk was requested to ask Mr.
Je~kins to meet with the City Council Thursday, September 2Otb at 4:30 p. m.
A communication was received from the Planning C~ission accepting the final map
of Winston Manor No. 2-A in compliance with Ord. No. 297. On motion duly made,
seconded and regularly carried, the recommendation of the Planning Commission was
accepted. ~-

A communication was received:from the Memorial Park Horseshoe Club together with a
petition containing 18 signatures, asking the City Council to provide lights at the
horseshoe pits for evening games. Referred to the Redreation Commission.
A communication was received from Peck's Subdivision Community Club asking permis-
sion to hold a street dance October 27th, that certain streets be closed during the
celebration, and that they be allo~ed to serve refreshments to the public. The
matter was referred to the Chief of Police and Supt. of Streets.
A communication was received from Catholic Daughters of America asking permission
to hold a dance Oct. 27, 1951 at American Legion Hall. On motion duly made, sec-
onded and regularly carried, permission was granted.
A communication was received from the San Mateo County Fair Association asking the
Council to proclaim the week Sept. 21 through 29th "Fiesta Week." The Clerk was
instructed to see that the proclamation as signed by Mayor Sani is given to the
press.
A communication was received from Reddy Sales Corporation distributors for "Mech-
anical Cop," setting forth the accomplishments of this mechanism. The matter was
referred to the Chief of Police and Police Commissioner.
Claims in the amount of $15,830.16 were audited by the Finance Committee. On motion
dulymade, seconded and regularly carried, same were ordered paid.
Monthly reports for the month of August were submitted by the City Judge, Fire Chief,
Chief of Police, Building Inspector, Humane Officer and Librarian and same were
accepted assubmitted and ordered filed.
City Attorney Coleberd recommended that the claim of Cecil Slocum be demied. On
motion duly made, seconded and regularly carried, the claim of Cecil Slocum was
denied.
An ordinance amending the zoning ordinance was introduced. Motion was made by
Councilman Elder, seconde~' by Councilman Boido and r.egularly carried, that this
ordinance be read by title only for its first reading. The Clerk then read the
title: "AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 269 OF THE CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO,
THE ZONING ORDINANCE OF SAID CITY, ADOPTED DEC~B~ 8, 19&?."
Councilman Elder introduced a resolution to amend Subdivision (c) of Secti°n & of
Ordinance No. 269. This resolution was adopted by the unamimous vote of all mem-
bers of the council.
Councilman Bracco introduced a resolution to amend Sec. 5.31 of Ordinance No. 297.
This resolution was adopted by the unanimous vote of all members of the council.
On behalf of the City Council Mayor Sani accepted the reporg of the Citizen's Com-
mittee and stated he would like to commend the committee for the report submitted
amd the untiring efforts and time put in for the welfare of the community. He
advised that the co, w,!ttee had made about 100 copies of the report for distribution
to those attending the meeting, as the report was too lengbhyto read at the meet-
ing. Ail m~bers of the council agreed that the Committee were to be congratulated
for the work and time put in in preparing this report. The Mayor called on Mr.
Noonan, as Chairman of the Committee. Mr. Noonan thankedthe city council for
allowing the committee to make the report and for the fine cooperation of all city
officials, and also thanked Mayor Sani for ~his words of commendation. Mr. Bucher
said that Mr. Noonan expressed the feeling of the Committee. He said the report
was the result of intensive investigation and inquiry and that it was a unanimous
report and thanked the council for the privilege of serving on the committee. Mr.
Stuller thanked the Citizen's Committee for its interest in the welfare of the
comunity and the Council for allowing the committee to make this report.
On motion of Councilman Boido, seconded by Councilman Cortesi and regularly carried,
the meeting was adjourned to Thursday, September 20, 1951 at & p. m.
