The meetiug was called to order at 8:10 p. m. by Mayor Sani.
City Clerk having forwarded copy of the minutes of the previous meeting of
December 17, 1951 to all councilmen, Mayor Sani asked if there were any errors
or omissions. There being none, the minutes were approved as submitted.
Communication was received from Edward R. Rodondi tendering his resignation from
the Fire Department, effective Jan. 31, 1952. Motion was made by Councilman
Elder, seconded byCouncilman Bracco and regularly carried, that the resignation
of Edward Rodondi be accepted.
Resolutions were received from the Planning Commission recommending the granting
of use permits to Leo Leoni, United Air Lines, andErnest Bonalanza. Motion
was made by Councilman Bracco, seconded by Councilman Cortesi and regularly car-
ried, that the recommendations of the Planning Commission be accepted.
Resolutions were received from the Planning Commission recommending the granting
of variance and adjustment permits to Carlo Ferrario and Torger Silnes. Motion
was made by Councilman Elder, seconded by Councilman Boido and regularly carried,
that the recommendations of the Planning Commission be accepted.
Communication was received from the Planning Commission advising that a reso-
lution was adopted granting the Associated Realty Co. permission to erect a
sign on a six months revocable basis. Motion was made by Councilman Elder,
seconded by Councilman Boido and regularly carried, that the recommendation of
the Planning Commission be accepted and referred to the City Attorney for the
necessary resolution.
Co~mnication was received from the Southwood Women's Club recommending the
changing of the name of Elm Court Recreation Center to the Helen Siebecker
Recreation Center. This c~unication was ordered filed. Clerk was instructed
to advise the Recreation Commission that the City Council would meet with them
Jan. 23rd on this matter.
Communication was received from the League of California Cities, Peninsula
Division, advising of dinner meeting to be held Thursday, January 17, 1952.
This communication was ordered filed.
Application for a business license was submitted by the Erie Metal Products Co.,
27 South Linden Avenue. Motion was made by Councilman Elder, seconded by
Councilman Bracco and regularly carried, that license be granted.
Application for a business license for a bar and restaurant was submitted by
the Union Club, 223 Grand Avenue. Motion was made by Councilman Bracco, sec-
onded by Councilman Elder and regularly carried, that license be granted pro-
vided it meets wi~h the approval of the Chief of Police.
Application for a business license for a service station at 523 Bayshore Blvd.
was submitted by Lar~ryBini. Motion was made by Councilman Elder, seconded by
Councilman Boido and regularly carried, that license be granted.
Application for a business license was submitted by the Speedway Auto Repair.
Motion was made by Councilman Elder, seconded by Councilman Bracco and regu-
larly carried, that license be denied.
City Manager McClung submitted the first report of the Committee appointed to
study storm damages, and explained what the Committee had done in an endeavor
to correct the problems. The City Manager answered to the satisfaction of all
concerned many questions asked by the people in the audience.
Claims in the amount of $29714.21 were submitted by the Finance Committee. On
motion duly made, seconded and regularly carried, claims as submitted were or-
dered paid.
An ordinance amending Ordinance No. 183 and repealing Ordinance No. 36, estab-
lishing a Fire Department in the City of South San Francisco, was introduced and read
in its entirety as the first reading.
Councilman Elder introduced a resolution authorizing the Mayor and the City
Clerk to execute a contract iu the name of the City and enter into an agreement
with the State Personnel Board for conducting examinations. This resolution
was adopted by the unanimous vote of all members of the council.

Councilman Bracco introduced a resolution accepting deed of Tanforan Co. This
resolution was adopted by the unanimous vote of all members of the council.
Councilman Boido introduced a resolution providing for the issuance of street
improvement bonds~ under Resolution of Intention No. 1594. This resolution
was adopted by the unanimous vote of all members of the council.
Councilman Elder stated there was quite a traffic problem on East Grand Avenue
during the morning and evening work hours. He suggested that some effort be
made to extend Industrial Way to meet with the Old Bayshore Highway. After
some discussion, Councilman Elder moved, seconded by Councilman Boido, that
this matter be referred to the Road Committee of the Planning Commission to
work in conjunction with the Works Engineer and City Manager. This motion was
regularly carried.
Councilman Cortesi stated that the Lowrie Paving Company was having trouble in
locating their plant in Burlingame, and he suggested that the City Manager get
in touch with the Lowrie Paving Company, and see if they would locate here.
After some discussion, Councilman Cortesi moved, seconded by Councilman Elder,
that the City Manager, working with the Chamber of Commerce, be instructed to
contact the Lowrie Paving Company, inviting them to locate in this city. This
motion ~s regularly carried.
On motion of Councilman Elder, seconded by Councilman Bracco and regularly
carried, the meeting was adjQurned to January 21, 1952 at 8 p. m.
