The meeting was called to order by Mayor Rozzi at 8:05 p.m.
Pledge of Al~egiance to the Flag was recited, after which invocation was given
by Reverend Theodore E. Wall of St Paul's Methodist Church, who did so in plac
of Reverend Martin L. Wyneken of the First Lutheran Church.
Present: Councilmen G. J. Rozzi, Andrew Rocca, Emilio Cortesi, Francis Lucchio
and Leo J. Ryan.
Absent: None
Mayor Rozzi asked if there was a motion to accept the minutes of the meeting c
November 5, 1956, as submitted. Councilman Rocca so moved. Mayor Rozzi asked
if there were any corrections or omissions. No response was made. Councilman
Lucch&o then seconded the motion, which was regularly carried.
Takin~ up the claim for approval, Mayor Rozzi remarked that there should be
separate Council motions on ssveral claims which were submitted this evening
but that at this time he would like a moron on the claims as submitted for th
regular meeting, which were the regular claims. Councilman Lucchio moved, sec
onded by Councilman Cortesi and regularly carried, that they be approved.
Mayor Rozzi then stated that the Council had before them now the individual
claims and that they would be taken one by one. He stated that the first clai
was from Oscar C. Holmes on the South Canal and Mayfair Avenue improvements in
the amount of $12,677.85, and also another in the amount of $542.38. Councils
Lucchio moved that, pending the recommendation of Director of Public Works Gos
they be approved and the usual amount be withheld. Mr. Goss remarked that the
City was withholding 10 percent and that he recommended the approval, also the
acceptance of the work on the bridge. Councilman Rocca seconded the motion
which was regularly carried. Mayor Rozzi then took up the claims on the
Industrial Park Subdivision No. 1, stating that a claim had been received frou
the firm of Haas-Haynie-Utah Company dated November 5, 1956, in the amount of
$54,607.12 for the construction of Utah Bridge, and claim from the firm of
Wilsey & Ham dated November 15, 1956, in the amount of $25,000,00 for the pre~
aration of plans and specifications and claim from the office of Orrick,
Dahlquist, Herrington & Sutcliffe dated November 16, 1956, for attorney fees t
the amount of $3,254.00, and claim from the office of Richard P. Lyons dated
November 15, 1956, for attorney fees in the amount of $3,254.00. Councilman
Ryan moved, seconded by Councilman Rocca and regularly carr~ d, that the claiu
be approved as submitted.
Mayor Rozzi remarked that there were no public hearings and no resolutions fox
Council attention at this time. He further remarked that the matter of the
Pineview Crest annexation was being held over at this time.
Variance Application Resolution No. 652, as applied for by D & M Liquors, was
received from the Planning Commission, recommending the granting of permissior
for a sign to project twenty-three inches over the property line instead of
the required twelve-inch projection, at 429 Grand Avenue. This was subject tc
the conditions that under the pending sign ordinance, this sign may have to bE
removed in a five-year period, of which the applicant is aware. Councilman
Lucchio moved, seconded by Councilman Rocca and regularly carried, that the
permit be granted subject to the submission of a letter to the City stating
for the record that they understood this sign may have to be removed within a
period of five years to conform w~th the pending Sign ordinance.
Use Permit Resolution No. 653, as applied for by the Bauer-Lesser Company, was
received from the Planning Commission, recommending the granting of permissio~
to renewing a permit which had just expired, for two 8 x 20, back-to-back,
unlighted signs at the corner of Arroyo DriVe and E1Camino Real, subject to
the conditions that the applicant remove the truck which was parked in the
area with the signs attached to it. Mayor Rozzi remarked that if there were
no objections, this matter would be held over pending a meeting to be held
between Bauer & Lesser and the City officials. No objections were registered,
Use Permit Resolution No. 654, as applied for by Theodore Mulkey, was receive~
from the Planning Comm£ssion, recommending denial of six additional trailer
parking spaces at 636 E1Camino Real. Councilman Rocca moved, seconded by
Councilman Cort~i and regularly carried, that the recommendation of the Plan-
ning Commission be accepted and the permit be denied,
Communication dated October 30, 1956, was received from Mrs. Evelyn Bullerdicl
requesting the installation of sidewalks on El Camino Real along See's Candy
Company property from Spruce Avenue to Francisco Drive. At the request of
Mayor Rozzi, Director of Public Works Goss explained the sidewalk which was
to be installed by See's Candy Company, in accordance with the request of the
City, the work having been approved by the State Division of Highways and to
take place within thirty to sixty days.
Communications were received from the following property owners on "B" Street
requesting that the north end of "~' Street be paved:

It was the recommendation of Director of Public Works Goss that the street be
repaired and paved by City forces at the approximate cost of $500.00. Council
man Ryan moved, seconded by Councilman Rocca and regularly carried, that the

Communication was received from Glen Smitl, submitting his resignation as a
member of the Recreation Commission, due ~o the fact that he is moving from
South san Francisco. Councilman Rocca moved, seconded by Councilman Lucchio
and regularly carried, that the resignation be accepted, the letter ordered
file~, and that Mr. Smith be thanked for tis efforts as a member of this
Commission.
Communication dated October 29, 1956, was received from Mrs. Margaret Williams¢
concerning the injury received by her daughter, Linda, while playing at the
Sunshine Gardens School Playground used under the supervision of the City
Recreation Department. Also received frorl Mrs. Williamson was a statement
from the office of Dr. M. Schoeps in the Lmount of $10.00 for medical attentiol
rendered her daughter at the time of the &lleged injury. Councilman Lucchio
moved, seconded by Councilman Rocca and regularly carried, that the claim be
deniet and referred to the City's insurance carrier.
Inter-offfice memorandum dated November 14, 1956, was received from the office
of Ci;y Manager Eugene Aiello, reco~mendi~.g acceptance of the low bid of Four
Wheel ~_ive Company for the City's purchase of a new fire engine. Discussion
follow~d, at which time, City Manager Aie21o read the bids as received, after
which ~ouncilman Lucchio moved, seconded by Councilman Ryan and regularly car-
ried, t~at the City accept the recommendation and the low bid of Four Wheel
Drive Company.
Inter-olfice memorandum dated November 14, 1956, was received from the office
of Director of Public Works Goss, recommending acceptance of the work done on
the Mayffair Avenue Bridge by Oscar C. Hol~es, Inc., with a further recommendatt
that =~e final payment be made to the contractor, 10 percent of which was to
be withheld by the City for thirty-five d~ys. Councilman Rocca moved, seconded
by Co~lacilman Lucchio and regularly carried, that the recommendation of the
Director of Public Works be accepted.
Commu;~ication dated November 1, 1956, was received from The Fay Improvement
Company, requesting modification of the assessment of Industrial Park Unit No.
to allow value of fifty percent of the material delivered to and on the site
for fu=~re installation, to be included ir the monthly progress payments.
Accompanying this communication was a memorandum from the Director of Public
Works, Louis Goss, dated November 9, 1956, recommending that the reque~tbe
granted and a resolution be adopted modifying the assessment. Cott~cilman
Lucchko moved that the at~,raey for the bonds be instructed to submit the
prope= resolution. Councilman Ryan seconoed the motion with the remarks that
the resolution be submitted through their attorney. Motion as mad® and seconde
was regularly carried.
Inter-office memorandum dated November 14, 1956, was received from the Supt.
of Parks and Recreation, Duane Mattison, recommending one month additional sick
leave ~o Martin Moro, maintenance man in the Park Department, his annual sick
leave h~ving been used up as of November 8, 1956. Councilman Rocca remarked
that ~ was his understanding that this person had been a good employee and
very ffatthful for some time and was quite ill. He then moved that the addition
time be granted. Councilman Ryan seconded t~e motion which was regularly carried

Police Department, Building Department, Library and City Clerk. Mayor Rozzi
remarke¢ that if there were no objections, these-communications would be
accepted and placed on file.
Notice of Withdrawal of Alcoholic Beverage Application, as applied for by
Christ Dariotes of 832 Airport Boulevard aad Joe and Francois Ercoli of 713
Linden Avenue, was received from the Depar=ment of Alcoholic Beverage Control.
Mayor Rozzi remarked that if there were no objections, this notice would be
placed on file.
Mayor Rozzi asked if any of the Council members had anything to offer under
Good and Welfare. No response was received. He then asked if anyone in the
audience wished to offer anything under Good and Welfare. No response was
likewise received. ~ayor Rozzi then wished everyone present a happy Thanks-
giving, after which the meeting was adjouraed by the Mayor until December 3,
1956, ~t 8 p.m.
