Wyneken of the First Lutheran Church. Present: !Councilmen C. J. Rozzi, Patrick E. Ahern, Andrew Rocca, and Leo J. Ryan. Absent: Councilman Emilio Cortesi. At this time Mayor Rozzi asked if there was a moticn approving the minutes of the regular meeting of May 15, 1961 and the adjourned regular meeting of May 23, 1961 as submitted. Councilman Ryan moved, seconded by Councilman Ahern and regularly carried, that the minutes of the regular meeting of May 15, 1961 and the adjourned regular meeting of May 2~, 1961 be approved as submitted. Mayor Rozzi then asked if there was a motion approving the regular claims as submitted for payment. Councilman Ryan moved, seconded by Councilman Ahern and regularly carried, that the regular claims totaling $31,741.~8 be approved for payment. Parking Dlstrict No. i Claims: California Water Service Claims dated May 2, 1961 and May 4, 1961 in the amounts of $2.~0~ $3.34, and $2.3© for service. Penna's Hardware Claim dated May 4, 1961 in the amount of $5.70 for angle iron, screwsi bolts, and washers. Standard Oil Company of California Claim dated M~y 1~ 1961 in the amount of $50.00 for lot rental for the month of May, 1961. Traffic Appliance Corporation Claims dated April 27, 1961 in the amouu$of $61.62 and $47.56 for parking meter repair equipment. City of South San Francisco - Street Department Claim dated April 18, 1961 in the amount of $169.72 for work at Parking Lot No. 6. Councihna2 Rocca moved, seconded by Counci~an Ahern and regularly carried, that the claims as Submitted for Parking District No. I be sm. proved for payment. Person & S~nson Industrial Tract Claims: Ente_~pr~ise-Journa! Claims dated May 24, 1961 in the amoun~ of $22.20 and $i~.,~ for Legal advertising. Councilman Ahern moved, seconded by Councilman Ryan and regularly carried, that the claims be approved for payment as submitted. Proceeding on to public hearings, the next item was the matter of the appeal on behalf of Ray Cattaneo as continued from the meeting of May 15, 1961. ~ayor Rozzi commented that a Use Permit had been received frmn the Planning Commission with their recommen- dations~ which would appear on the agenda later in ~he evening. He asked if any new protests had been received, to which the City Clerk replied that none had been received by his office. Then he asked if anyone present in the audience wished to register an oral protest. There being none, Mayor Rozzi dec!are~ the public hearing on the Ray Cattaneo matter closed. The next pablic hearing concerned the vacation of San Bruno Road in the Person & S~nson Industrial Tract, as set by Resolution No. 3184 adopted by Council on May 15, 1961. Mayor Rczzi declared the public hearing open and asked if any ~itten protests had been received, to which the City Clerk replied that none had been received by his office. He then asked if anyone present in the audience wished to register a pro- test. There being none, Mayor Rozzi declared the public hearing on the proposed acquisition of improvements for Littlefield Avenue & Kimball Way closed. The next public hearing concerned the opening and declaring of bids received for the improvement work to be done on Littlefield Avenue & Kimball Way. Mayor Rozzi requested the City Clerk to open and declare the bids received: BraMato Paving Company SD0 Bragato Road, Belmont Lowrie Paving Company 17k San Bruno Road, South San Francisco Arthur Haskins, Inc. lil- S. Maple Avenue, So. San Francisco $5~,915.o0 57,051.10 49,997.40. At this time Mayor Rozzi referred the bids received to the engineers of work for tabulatio'a, stating that the award would be made at the June 19 meeting in accordance with the instructions of the attorney for the distf~t. Councilman Cortesi appeared present at 8:10 p.m. and remained for the duration of the meeting. The next o~blic hearing concerned the proposed acquisition of improvements for the Lowrie-Bott~in-S%~nson Project. Mayor Rozzi declared the public hearing open and asked if any written protests had been received, to which the City Clerk replied that none had been received by his office. ~e then asked if anyone present in the audience wished to register a pro- test. There being none, Mayor Rozzi declared the public hearing on the proposed acquisition of improvements for the Lowrie-Bothin-Swanson Project closed. The next public hearing concerned the opening and declaring of bids received for the improvement work to be done on the Lowrie-Bothin-Swanson Project. Proceeding on to the next resolution, Mayor Rozzi stated that, if there were no objections, the resolution ordering reduction of assessments for the Lo%Tie-Bothin- S~nson Project would be held over to the June 19 meeting in .eccordance %~th the request of k~. Mayor Rozzi explained to Mr. DeMerritt (present in the audience) as well as others in attendance that the City had scheduled a meeting with the newly-elected School Board when it takes office shortly after July 1, at which time this and other existing joint-use facilities will be discussed. He further stated that it is the intention of the City to revise its entire program. Mr. DeMerritt expressed his thanks to the Council so whatever they can do in the matter. Discussion followed on the advantages the City would realize by having a representa- tive present at the conference. After discussion motion as made and seconded was regularly carried. Peter Mairani, retired City employee present in the audience, stated that he had discussed with the City Attorney the matter of obtaining more in the way of retirement payments than what he is receiving because of the rising cost of living. ~e further remarked that as yet he had not received a reply. Further di:scussion followed, after which Jay Hartman, representative of the _~merican Federation cf State, County, and Municipal E~ployees (Local 1569), stated that there ~mas a bill recently presented which would provide f~r increased pa~ents and recom- mended Council support in the matter. James Meidl pf the Municipal Employees Association stated that changes in the retirement law were being contemplated to increase retirement payments. Councilman Ryan moved, seconded by Councilman BZern and regularly carried, that the City Council go on record as favoring the assembly bill mentioned (providing the City Manager and the City Attorney after study so recommended) and that they convey to the State Legislature their approval of the bill. Councilman Ryan remarked that the Library Board report %~s due on June 15, 1961 and requested the City Manager to contact the Board to advise them the Council ~¢ould like the report of progress. He confronted on meetings held in previous years ,~th the Council over the development cf this property and thought that there would be no objections to his development. He further commented that this would be a nice improvement.
