A. Carlisle & Co. claim dated May 23, 1963, in the amount
of $218.07 for bond and coupon file books, to be disbursed

Councilman Bertucelli moved, seconded by Councilman Rocca and
regularly carried, that the claims as submitted for the Willow -
Spruce - Littlefield Avenues Projects be approved for payment.
Mayor Ahem declared the Public Hearing opened on sewer rental
charges for the fiscal year 1963-1954, asking if any written
protests had been received, to whic% the City Clerk replied none
had been received by his office. He then asked if anyone pres-
ent wished to register a protest.
There being none, Mayor Ahem declared the Public Hearing closed.
Mayor Ahern declared the Public Hearing opened on the appeal of
Mr. and Mrs. 0. Blandini concerning denial by the Planning Com-
mission on Variance Resolution No. 2610 for the request to sub-
~ivide two lots into three lots: one containing 4,3~0 sq. ft.
instead of required 6,000 sq. ft.; one containing 4,325 sq. ft.
instead of required 5,000 sq. ft.; and one containing 4,700 sq.
ft. instead of required 5,000 sq. f~. - Lots 17 and 18, Block 5,
Eigh School Park Addition (675 Pine Terrace).
Inter-Office Memorandum dated May 2l, 1963, was received from
the Planning Commission concerning ~his application.
Mayor Ahem asked if any written protests had been received, to
which the City Clerk replied none had been received by his office.
He then asked if anyone present wished to register an oral pro-
test. There being none, Mayor Aheru declared the Public Hearing
closed.
COuncilman Rocca moved, seconded by Councilman Bertucelli and
rSgularly carried, that the Variance as requested b~ approved
and granted.
The City Clerk announced that the following proclamation had
been issued by the Mayor's office:

Commission be approved and accepted.
VARIANCE Resolution No. 1620 was received from the Planning
COmmission recommending permission be granted for the request
to erect a four-unit apartment on 3J500 sq. ft. of land area
instead of required 4,000 sq. ft. of land area at 412 Commer-
cial Avenue.
Councilman Rocca moved, seconded by Councilman Bertucelli and
rSgularly carried, that the recommendation of the Planning
COmmission be approved and accepted.
VARIANCE Resolution No. 1621 was received from the Planning
COmmission recommending permission be granted for the request
to permit 43.9% lot coverage instead of permitted 40% - amended
air public hearing June 24,-1963 - a~ 556 Joaquin Drive.

Inter-Office Memorandum dated June 28, 1963, received from the
Planning Commission recommending permission be grantedl to J. E.
Eberle and William McLaren to resubdivide the rear 57' of lots
1 and 2, Block 16, Rancho Burl-Burl (227 and 229 Indio Drive),
creating a new lot 57~ x 93' facing on E1Campo Drive.
Councilman Rocca moved, seconded by Councilman Bertucelli and
~egularly carried, that the recommendation of the Planning
Commission be approved and accepted.
The next item to come to the attention of Council was the auth-
orization to proceed with the acquisition of land for a Library
and commission to Architect to commence plans.
Councilman Rocca moved, seconded by Councilman Bertucelli and
regularly carried, that the City Msnager be instructed to pro-
ceed with the acquisition of the 66,000 square feet of land
for the purchase price of $~8,5OO, with the City to relocate
the present entry road, so advising the California Golf Club.
Also, that he instruct the Architect to prepare the necessary
plans.
Inter-Office Memorandum dated June 26, 1963, was received from
the Superintendent of Recreation ard Parks submittingPlans
and specifications for reroofing t~.e lower elevation Of Magnolia
Center.
This matter, having been acted upon under Resolutions, required
no further action.
The next item for Council attention was the authorization to
call for bids for a gasoline concession at Oyster Point Marina.
Councilman Bertucelli moved, seconded by Councilman Rocca and
regularly carried, that the calling for bids be authorized.
Council next gave consideration to the request of the Union re-
garding the December 31, 1962, holud8~.
:Councilman Rocca moved, seconded by Councilman Bertucelli and
regularly carried, that those employees of the Police~ Fire and
SaniSation Departments who did not work on December 31, 1962,
and those members of the other departments who were on vacation
on that day and consequently also did not work be now given an
additional day off.
The next item was a compilation of bids for fire hose for use
of the Fire Department.
;City Manager Aiello declared the bids received, after; which

There being nothing further, Mayor -hem, under Good and Welfare,
read to those present a letter from Joseph Gallegan, City Attor-
ney for the City of San Bruno, commending and thankinglCity At-
torney John Noonan and POlice Chief John Fabbri for their work
and time in the case of a false arrest suit as filed bY Mr.
Gomes, arising from police investigation which took place in the
ciities of South San Francisco and San Bruno. Mayor Ahern then
thanked both the City Attorney and Police Chief for their diligent
work.
There being nothing further from au2 member of the Council, Mayor
~hern asked if any member of the audience had anythinglthey
~ished to offer. Mr. Victor Boido commented on the Planning
Ciommission item of Mrs. Cecilia Wale.ace in which she requested
Permission to construct a second hone to the rear of her prop-
eirty. He remarked that in the early development of the older
siection of the City, the lots were subdivided to allow~this type
Cf construction, urging Council's favorable action to this re-
quest. He then briefly commented on the earlier Council action
in allowing the 102 apartments at t'ae California Golf Club where
the roadway was to be only 26 feet in width. Mention was made
by Mayor Ahern that this was to be a private road overlwhich the
City had no control.
Councilman Rocca remarked that insofar as the Wallace Planning
Commission item, a hearing was requested by the applicant and
one had been set for the first meeting in August; further re-
marking that no action could be takmn by the Couneil until the
Public Hearing had been held,
Mrs. Albert Stanker commented on her application made with the
Planning Commission requesting the rezoning of her property at
Railroad and Spruce Avenues to allow the construction of a ser-
vice station, and which had been f~rwarded to the Council and
~ad appeared on this evening's ager~da with a recommendation for
denial.

Mayor Ahem remarked that so many residents in the area ,objected
~o this rezoniug and use that he could not see how Council could
not abide by the recommendations of the Planning Commiss!ion and
~he objections of the neighbors. Mrs. Stauker then explained
~he improvement which would take place on the property.
Brief discussion followed, at which time Council asked tlhe City
Attorney as to what course of action could be taken since the
recommendation of the Planning Commission, which was for denial,
~ad been accepted by Council motion earlier.
City Attorney Noonan suggested a motion carrying the action of
~ae city Council as a pending item urtil Mrs. Stanker had sub-
mitted her statement in writing.
Councilman Bertucelli then moved, seconded by Councilman Rocca
aad regularly carried, to hold in abeyance the action of the
3oUncil on Planning Commission item 2 (a) until the next regu-
lar meeting, at which time a written statement from Mrs.i Stanker
will be considered together with the report of the Planning
Commission and a determination made at that time as to Whether
the action taken by the Council tonight will stand.
