NOTICE OF SPECIAL MEETING
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, pursuant to the Government Code of the State of California, of a special
meeting called for Wednesday, Aagust 13, 1969 at 7:30 o'clock p.m. in the Council Chambers, City Hall, South
San Francisco, California.
Date:
The purpose of the meeting is to receive, consider, and vote on the following matter:
August 12, 1969
~AWARD OF CONTRACT FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE
WESTBOROUGH FIRE STATION.
SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO

Council Chambers, City Hall.
CALL TO ORDER:
The meeting was called to order by Mayor Bertucelli at 7:35 p.m.
ROLL CALL:
Present:
Absent:
Councilmen Frank J. BertucelTi, Patrick E. Ahern, F. Frank Mammini,
Andrew Rocca, and Warren Steinkamp.
None.
BIDS - WESTBOROUGH
FIRE STATION:
City Manager McKenzie stated that the bids received for the Westborough fire
station were higher than the engineer's estimate and it was possible the cost
could be reduced through a list of items which could be omitted. He stated that
Councilman Ma m mini had worked on this and could give a report on the items.
Councilman Mmamzini commented there were 15 items -- 14 which were deductions and
one an addition. He explained in detail the deductions, one of which was the
tower used for training and hose drying. Councilman Mammini explained the drying
apparatus that could be used in place of the tower for hose drying. Then he
explained each of the items from a list which had been prepared by the office of
Paul Markliug, architect, under date of August 1, 1969. He told how the credits
are determined and the lists furnished the City Council were for their use in
determining what to eliminate.
Further discussion followed, during which time the matter of water connection by
the Westborough Water District was discussed.
In answer to Councilman Rocca's question as to whether or not the elimination of
certain items would affect the functions of the fire station, Councilman Mammini
replied not in his estimation.
Fire Chief Marchi at this time read from a prepared report, stressing the need
for all the items and urging the City Council to not remove any items; he
requested that the award of contract be made this evening.
Further discussion followed between the members of the City Council and the Fire
Chief over the items which were being considered for elimination to affect a
savings, after which Councilman Mammini suggested accepting the contract with
stipulations. Councilman Steinkamp moved, seconded by Councilman Rocca and
regularly carried, that the recommendation of the committee be accepted with a
proviso to allowways and means to offset possible savings.recommended by the
committee and that the contract be awarded to the low bidder.
RESOLUTION NO. 5133
CONTRACT AWARD --

STATION:
City Attorney Noonan stated that a resolution of award had been prepared, after
which Councilman Ahern introduced: "A RESOLUTION OF AWARD OF CONTRACT WESTBOROUGH
FIRE STATION".
Roll call vote was as follows: Ayes, Councilmen Frank J. Bertucelli, Patrick E.
Ahern, F. Frank Mammini, Andrew Rocca, and Warren Steinkamp. Noes, none.
Absent, none.
