ELECTI ON RESULTS:

South San Francisco High School Auditorium.
The meeting was called to order by Mayor Steinkamp at
8:10 PM.
The Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag was recited.
Present:
Councilmen Patrick E. Ahern, William A. Borba,
F. Frank Mammini, Terry J. Mirri and
Warren Steinkamp.
Absent: None
Mayor Steinkamp stated, "The City Council meets tonight in
compliance with the Elections Code of the State of California,
Section 22932, and the Government Code of the State of
California, Section 36801. The first Section requires that
the Council meet the first Tuesday after the election to
canvass the returns and to install the newly elected officers.
The Code Section requires that the Council declares elected
the persons having the highest number of votes given for each
office. The Council will, therefore, consider and pass a
resolution reciting the facts of the election and the results
of the election. The second Section requires that the Council
at this meeting choose one Of its number as Mayor and one of
its number as Mayor pro tempore. The Council will receive
the certification from the City Clerk, after which a resolution
declaring the results of the election will be considered by
the Council."
City Clerk Rodondi at this time stated that, in addition to
th~ semi-official canvass of record of votes cast at the
polling precincts made in his office on the evening of the
General Municipal Election, a canvass was made by the
County Clerk when the voting machines were returned to the
warehouse, reading the Certificate of the County Clerk.
The City Clerk stated that both Council Elect Richard
@attaglia and Leo Padreddii had filed with the County Clerk
their Conflict of Interest report for which receipts had
been received and that it would now be in order for the
Council to adopt the resolution canvassing these returns.
Councilman Mammini introduced the resolution entitled:
"A RESOLUTION CANVASSING RETURNS AND DECLARING RESULTS OF
THE GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION HELD IN THE CITY OF SOUTH
SAN FRANCISCO ON MARCH 5, 1974".
Roll call vote was as follows: Ayes, Councilmen Patrick E.
Ahern, Wiilliam A. Borba, F. Frank Mammini, Terry J. Mirri,
and Warren Steinkamp.
City Clerk Rodondi then recorded the Statement of the Results
required by Seciton 22933 of the Elections Code: A. The
whole number of votes cast in the City; B. The names of the
persons voted for; C. For what office each person was voted
for; D. The number of votes given at each precinct to each
person; E. The number of votes given in the City to each
person which is set forth as follows and also set forth in
Resolution No.54-74 which is incorporated herein by reference:

City Clerk Rodondi then administered the Oath of Office
to both Council Elect Richard Battaglia and Leo Padreddii.
Mayor Steinkamp at this time stated that it would be in
order to nominate and elect a Mayor for the next year.
Councilman Battaglia moved, seconded by Councilman Padreddii
and unanimously carried that Councilman Mirri be nominated
and elected Mayor.
Councilman Mammini moved, seconded by Councilman Steinkamp
and unanimously carried that Richard Battaglia be nominated
and elected as Mayor Pro Tem.
Mayor Mirri stated that while the City had lost two g~d
Councilmen, it had gained two good men as well. He then
briefly outlined how he would conduct the Office of Mayor,
inviting the public to call on him during office hours
Councilman Battaglia extended his thanks to everyone
present this evening especially to the members of his family
who were patient in his campaign and worked with him in
this regard.
Councilman Padreddii extended his thanks to everyone who
supported him, commenting on the orderly manner in which
the campaign was conducted by each of the candidates.
Councilman Steinkamp extended his thanks to former Councilman
Patrick Ahern for his 16 years of service and to former
Councilman Borba for his 4 years. He remarked that he
would like to see both participate in future City matters
making their knowledge available in this regard.
Former Councilman Borba extended his thanks to the people
who supported him stating that it was a pleasure to have
served both as Mayor and Councilman.
Former Councilman Ahern likewise extended his thanks to his
supporters, commenting on the tax reduction which he helped
to initiate and maintain as well as other projects which
were completed during his tenure as Mayor and Councilman.
There being nothing further, the meeting was adjourned
at 8:40 PM.
