HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes 1977-09-22ADJOURNED REGULARf4EETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO HELD SEPTEMBER 22, 1977 TIME: PLACE: CALL TO ORDER: PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE TO FLAG: ROLL CALL: SPRUCE AVENUE DRIVE-IN THEATRE 3:30 PM. Council Conference Room, City Hall. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Damonte at 3:34 PM. The Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag was recited. Present: Councilmen William A. Borba, Emanuele N. Damonte and Terry J. Mirri. Absent: Councilmen Richard A. Battaglia and Leo Padreddii. Councilman Padreddii appeared present at 4:05 PM and remained for the duration of the meeting. The City Manager commented that the purpose of the adjourned meeting was to discuss the problems that exist with the Spruce Avenue Drive-In Theatre. Mayor Damonte then called on two residents who were present and wished to speak on the matter. Mr. Ray Svanosio and Mr. Louis Tambini expressed their concern over the problems they and other residents of Railroad Avenue have been experiencing over the years with the Spruce Avenue Drive-In; namely, noise, littering, car racing, bright lights, lack of security, types of movies being shown, the length of the performances and poor management. Discussion followed between memebers of Council and the City Planner relative to these problems, the City's past efforts in trying to solve them and possible solutions. Ken Royce, the attorney representing Jack Haigh, owner of the Spruce Avenue Drive-In Theatre, advised Council that he and his client were not aware that this meeting was to be a formal one. He requested that an informal meeting be held prior to Council taking any formal action on the matter. SPRUCE AVENUE DRIVE-IN THEATRE (CONT ' D. ) Mr. Jack Haigh, owner of the drive-in then informed the residents and Council that he was unaware of these problems. Mayor Damonte advised Mr. Royce that no formal action would be taken at this meeting. Councilman Padreddii appeared present at 4:05 PM and reamined present for the duration of the meeting. In reply to Mr. Tambini's request, Police Chief Datzman agreed to give the area special patrol protection. Mayor Damonte then announced that the Regular City Council MeetingofOctober 5, 1977 would be adjourned to October 6, 1977 at 3:30 PM in the Council Conference Room unless otherwise notified. He instructed that reports should be submitted at that time by all concerned. ADJOURNMENT Councilman Padreddii moved, seconded by Councilman Borba and regularly carried that the meetingbe adjourned.
