ORDINANCE NO. 19
An Ordinance Imposin~ a License Tax Upon the Use of Vehicles
w~.thin the Limits of the City of South San Francisco.
The Board of Trustees of the City of South San Francisco,
do ordain as follows:
Section I.
Every person, firm or corporation not havin~ a fixed place
of business within the limits of the City of South San Francisco and
not payin~ license tax under any of the provisons of Ordinance number
13 of the City of South San Francisco, who or whlch owns a cart, wagon
or other vehicle and uses the same for the carriage, delivery or trans-
portation of ~oods, wares, merchandise, products or materials of any
kind for hire, profit, sale or delivery or for the transporation of
passenTers for hire or profit within the limits of said City, shall
pay a License tax hereby levied, for each cart, wagon or other vehicle,
as follows:
A. For each heavy wagon or vehicle drawn by more than
two horses $ Four per annum:
B. For each wagon or vehicle drawn by two horses
$ Three per annum:
C. For every other wagon or vehicle, except carts,
private carriages, hoarses or dead wagons, drawn
by one house $ Two Per annum:
D. For each cart $ Two Per Annum;
It is hereby provided, however, that any person, firm or corporation
ownin~ or havin~ more than one wagon and usinT but one team and one
driver at the same t!me may transfer the number of the license from
vehicle to vehicle so that but one tax need be paid for the vehicles
drawn by one team at different times. Each vehicle so licensed shall
be numbered, and the number thereof shall be kept in a corspicUous place
on the sides of said vehicle. It shall be unlawful for any person, firm
or corporation to carry on said business, or use a wagon for said
p~rposes until said license tax is paid and license obtained.

Section 2.
Said license tax shall be paid to, and collected by the
City Marshall, who is hereby authorized to issue said license. Said
license tax shall be paid annually in advance, and the license term
shall be for one year be~innin~ with the first of April.
Section 3.
Every person who shall violate any of the provisons of this
ordinance shall be deemed ~uilty of a misdemeanor, and upon conviction
thereof shall be punished by a fine not exceedin~ One Hundred Dollars,
or by impris~O~ment for a period not exceedin~ three month.
Section 4.
This Ordinance shall be published one in "The Enterprise"
a weekly newspaper, printed and published in the City of South San
Francisco, and shall take effect and be in force from and after its
passage.

Passed and Adopted as an ordinance of the City of South San
Francisco, at a regular meetin~ of the Board of Trustees of the City
of South San Francisco, this 5th day of April 1909, by the followin~
vote:
