SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO REGULA2ING PUBLIC P00T, AND BILLIARD ROOMS IN
TEE CITY OF SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO AND IMPOSING A LICENSE TAX UPON
THE BUSINESS OF CONDUCTING THE SAME.
The Board of Trumteew of the City of South San Francisco do
ordain as follows:
Section 1. It is hereby declared to be unlawful for any per-
son, firm or corporation to establish, keep, open or maintain with-
in the City of South San Francisco any public pool or billiard room
or public place for the playing of pool or billiardw withou~ having
first procured the p ermisalon and license by this ordinance required.
Section E. Any applicant for permission to conduct a public
pool or billiard room within the City of South San Francisco shall
make a written application to the Board of Trustees of the City
of South San Francisco therefor. Upon receiving such application
said Board of Trustees shall investigate whether the person making
such application is a sober and suitable person to carry on and con-
duct the business for which permission ia requested, and whether
the place described in said application is a proper or suitable
place for such business. If it appears that the person or persona
are not suitable or proper persons to be permitted to carry on such
b~siness, or that the place in which it is proposed to conduct ~uch
business is not a suitable place ~therefor, said application shall
be denied. Said Board m~y, by resolution, grant such applioat.~9~:
Section 5. Every person, firm or corporation to whom is
granted a permit for conducting any pool or billiard roam under the
provisions of this ordinance shall pay to the City of South San

Francisco an annual license tax of
Dollars ($/~ ), payable quarterly in advance on the first
days
of JUly, October, January and April of each year.
Section 4. After said Board of Trustees have granted the
permit provided for in this ordinance, the City Clerk st~ll issue
a license for the quarter year for which payment of the license
tax is made. No license shall be issued for a period les8 than
three months.
Section §. No permit or license shall be assigned to any
person by any person, firm or corporation to whom the same ham
been granted.
Section 6. No person under the age of eighteen (18) years
shall be permitted to enter or remain in any public place kept
for the purposes of playing pool or billiards.
Section 7. It shall be unlawful for ~ny person, firm or
corporation conducting any public pool or billiard room in the
City of South San Francisco to permit the same to remain open
between the hour of twelve o'clock midnight of any day and the
hour of 5:45 o'clock a.m. next following.
Section 8o The'Board of Trustees may revoke the licenme
issued to any person, firm or corporation who or which shall
fail to conduct such public pool or billiard room in a quiet
and orderly manner, or shall violate any of the terms of this
ordinance or any other ordinance or law now in force, or which
may hereafter be enacted, conce~ning the conduct of such places.
Section 9. There is excepted from the operation and effect
of this ordinance all places of business where malt or fermented
liquors or wines are sold under a permit and Class "A" li~nse
issued for that purpose. .

Section 10. Any person or persons who shall violate any
provisions of this ordinance shall be deemed guilty of a misde-
meanor and upon conviction thereof shall be punished by a fine
not exceeding ~ ~~ ,_ ~'

Section ll. This ordinance shall be published once in
"The ~nterprise", a weekly newspaper printed and published in the
City of South San Francisco and shall take effect and be in force
from and after the expiration of thirty (30) days after the date
of it s pa~sage.
